  08/12/22 - K Anders CarlsonrSr/2023, Auburn

Anders Carlson walked to the 35-yard line of Auburn's practice field, a heavy brace still covering his left knee, and unloaded on a ball teed up for kickoff. The sixth-year Auburn kicker bombed the kickoff into the end zone for a touchback Tuesday morning during the team's fourth practice of fall camp. If not for that brace on his surgically repaired left knee - his non-kicking leg - it would be difficult to tell Carlson is coming off a major injury and extended recovery this offseason. "Yeah, he looks like it," Auburn coach Bryan Harsin said when asked if Carlson will be prepared for the season opener Sept. 3 against Mercer. "…I still think he hadn't completely just put everything into his swing, but he put it in the end zone. That's the thing; he's got the leg. So, he's an elite talent that way." Carlson may not be quite back to his peak form just yet, but he's tracking toward being back to his old ways when the season gets underway in less than four weeks.

That's good news for the Tigers, considering Carlson has handled place-kicking duties for each of the last four seasons and ranks third on Auburn's career scoring list (352 points) and second in program history in career field goals made (67). He'll have a chance to build on those numbers - and close the gap between himself and his older brother, Daniel Carlson, who holds the school record in both categories (480 points and 92 field goals made) - this season after returning from the ACL injury that cost him the final three games of last season. - Birmingham News
