  07/01/22 - QB Noah VedralrSr/2024, Rutgers

"The game is played on 120 yards of grass, and it takes one step (to change a play), which is one of the coolest parts of football," Noah Vedral says, explaining his thinking while reading a defensive end before snapping the ball on a crucial third-down play against Illinois. "There are so many parts of football, and that's one. Look at the space on the screen and we're talking about which foot he's taking his first step with." Whenever he hangs his cleats up for good, Vedral aspires to be a coach leading film sessions just like this, only to a group of actual football players instead. His immediate goal is to coach quarterbacks "at the college level or higher," with the aspirations of eventually becoming a college offensive coordinator and one day running his own program as a head coach.

That journey has no definitive start time. Vedral would "love" to play professionally, which would delay his coaching career, but he will not "chase that to exhaustion" if he does not believe professional football is within the realm of possibility. Whether he receives any opportunities will come down to how the two-year starter does in his final season of college football this fall, a process that begins in August with a training camp battle against hotshot freshman quarterback Gavin Wimsatt, the highest-ranked QB recruit in program history. Less cloudy is how Vedral came to the conclusion he wants to be a coach. It is a natural fit for the member of a football family that includes a legendary high school coach in his native Wahoo, Nebraska, and numerous former players for their home state Huskers, but it was not exactly preordained. While he always planned on being around football after he was done playing, Vedral said he did not know in what capacity until recently. - Star Ledger
