C.J. Stroud looked and felt like the leader of Ohio State's quarterback competition prior to Saturday, and the Spring Game only reinforced that assumption. Stroud led a pair of first-half touchdown drives while he, Jack Miller and Kyle McCord took snaps with both Team Brutus and Team Buckeye. He led another to begin the second half, and for the day completed 16 of 22 attempts for 185 yards and two touchdowns. More importantly, Stroud's performance featured the most sizzle and fewest mistakes. While all three quarterbacks were given equal opportunity to compete, the assumption all along was that Stroud entered in an advantageous position.

He was called on to fill in for Justin Fields mid-game twice in 2020, including in the playoff semifinal against Clemson. Stroud has walked and practiced with the poise one might expect from someone who assumes he had to be beaten out for the job. No one in scarlet or gray is talking specifics about who they believe leads the competition. The players say their confidence that OSU will have a strong starter in place on opening day continues to grow. "I believe in all three of them," defensive end Zach Harrison said. "Whenever Coach Day says 'You're the guy,' I have all my faith in him." - Cleveland Plain Dealer
