C.J. Stroud wasn't surprised about the attention he received as Ohio State's starting quarterback over the past two seasons. But looking back, Stroud told radio host Jim Rome about the ways Ohio State fans would try and get his attention during his time in Columbus. C.J. Stroud on Proving People Right from The Jim Rome Show on Vimeo. "For me and my teammates, man, being at Ohio State, if you have any source of social media or type of technology, Ohio State fans have it," Stroud said. "So, man, I was getting DMs - I don't have social media throughout the season. I was getting DMs on Venmo, the money app, from fans telling me, 'Play better,' things like that." In two seasons as Ohio State's starting quarterback, Stroud, a two-time Heisman Trophy finalist, threw for 8,123 passing yards, 85 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. - Columbus Dispatch

Ending mounting drama, Ohio State redshirt sophomore quarterback C.J. Stroud announced on social media Monday morning he will forgo his final three years of eligibility and declare for the 2023 NFL Draft, where he is projected to be a top-10 pick. Drama had been increasing in advance of the Monday deadline as theories and conjecture discussed NIL money and a bigger college legacy might get him to return. A former four-star prospect from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Stroud finishes his career as the only two-time Heisman Trophy finalist in school history after throwing for 8,123 yards and 85 touchdowns in 25 games as a starter.

Stroud's Twitter statement: "First and foremost, I want to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for blessing me with health, favor and opportunity. To my family, thank you for laying the foundation on which I stand. Through all the uncertainties one thing was always certain, our love for on another. Thank you for always believing and supporting me. To my teammates, coaches, strength staff, nutritionists, academic advisors, support team, and everyone that works at the WHAC, thak you for building that young 18 year old redshirt into the man I am today. To Buckeye Nation, it's been a hell of a ride. To the students, alumni, and all of THE Ohio State fans, thank you for welcoming a kid from Cali into the Buckeye family. This Process has been difficult, and the decision, one of the hardest I've ever had to make. As a kid I dreamed of playing football at the highest level and after much prayer, I'd made the decision that it's time to turn those dreams into a reality. With that said, I am declaring for the 2023 NFL Draft. This ain't goodbye...Buckeye For Life!" - Frank Cooney, NFL Draft Scout/Stroud's Twitter

Tick, tick, tick. Today, Monday Jan. 16, is the deadline for college football underclassmen to officially declare for the 2023 NFL Draft. There are rumblings that Ohio State quarterback C. J. Stroud will return to the Buckeyes for big NIL money and a chance to enhance his college legacy. Early today, one of Ohio State's biggest Name, Image and Likeness influences, Brian Schottenstein, tweeted out a cryptic message that is likely Stroud-related."Got some big news today..." he tweeted. The deadline to announce a 2023 NFL Draft decision is on Monday. ESPN's Peter Burns tweeted: "If it doesn't happen with CJ Stroud, it will just be a matter of time. Sooner or later a Top 10 NFL draft pick (QB) is going to forgo the NFL to play one more season in CFB. Would have to imagine it would need to be a NIL package of over $15M. Worth it for a school? Likely." Stay tuned. - Frank Cooney, NFL Draft Scout

Most of Ohio State football's eligible players have announced their intentions for April's NFL Draft - with one very notable exception. In fact, 29 of the 32 players listed in the first round of a new CBS mock draft Friday have declared their entry. Two of the exceptions are receivers Jordan Addison of USC and Quentin Johnson of TCU, projected as mid first-round selections. The other is Buckeyes quarterback C.J. Stroud, frequently listed among the contenders to go No. 1 overall. Stroud's departure for the draft after three seasons has been considered a formality since, at the latest, his transformation into a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2021. The widespread certainty only grew when he followed up with another strong season.

His presence as one of the top three quarterbacks in this draft - along with Kentucky's Will Levis and Alabama's Bryce Young - is shaping the conversation around several NFL franchises this winter. Yet Stroud has deliberated more than expected on this decision. The deadline for early entry - players leaving after their third year of college - is Monday. There is precedent here. Other no-doubt NFL quarterback talents have come back for an extra year. Peyton Manning did it at Tennessee a generation ago, and things worked out fine for him long term. Andrew Luck was expected to go No. 1 overall in 2011, stayed at Stanford, and went No. 1 the next year. Oregon's Justin Herbert might have been the top quarterback taken in a somewhat soft 2019 class, but held off to go sixth overall in 2020. - Cleveland Plain Dealer

Georgia, Michigan, TCU and Ohio State were chosen Sunday to play in the College Football Playoff, giving the Big Ten multiple teams in the four-team field for the first time. The defending national champion and top-ranked Bulldogs and fourth-seeded Buckeyes will meet Dec. 31 at the Peach Bowl in Atlanta. The second-seeded Wolverines and third-ranked Horned Frogs, the lone first-timer in the final four, will play at the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona, the same day.

The national championship game is scheduled for Jan. 10 at Sofi Stadium in Inglewood, California, and it could a rematch of Big Ten rivals Ohio State and Michigan. The rivalry dates to 1902, but the Buckeyes and Wolverines have never played outside of their annual regular-season game. With some drama, but not much controversy, the CFP selection committee’s top four fell into place over the championship weekend. The most interesting part of the unveiling was whether the committee would pair Michigan and Ohio State in the semifinals and if Alabama might be able to slip in as the first two-loss playoff team. In the end, the committee sprung no surprises. - AP College Football

Ohio State was No. 5 Tuesday night in the second-to-last College Football Playoff rankings, positioned to possibly take advantage if one of the top four slips up on championship weekend. Georgia (12-0) was No. 1 again. No. 2 Michigan (12-0) and No. 3 TCU (12-0) both moved up a spot and Southern California (11-1) climbed two spots into the fourth slot. The Buckeyes (11-1) dropped three spots after losing 45-23 to the rival Wolverines on Saturday at home.

Alabama (10-2) moved up a spot to No. 6 and was followed by Southeastern Conference rival Tennessee, which beat the Crimson Tide in October. All play in their conference championships game this weekend. The undefeated teams might not need to win this weekend to lock up a spot. Georgia plays LSU (9-3) in the SEC title game. Michigan plays Purdue (8-4) for the Big Ten championship. TCU faces Kansas State, which is 10th in the latest rankings and has already lost to the surprising Horned Frogs. USC and Heisman Trophy frontrunner Caleb Williams face Utah, No. 11 in the rankings, on Friday night in Las Vegas for the Pac-12 championship. If the Trojans slip up, that could give Ohio State a second chance. - AP College Football

One of the greatest rivalries in sports seems set up for another classic. No. 2 Ohio State and No. 3 Michigan will both be undefeated for the 20th time when they meet Saturday at the Horseshoe in what's known as The Game. The winner will earn a trip to the Big Ten championship game and a probable spot in the College Football Playoff. "This is what we've been striving for all year, 11-0, and now to play The Game," Michigan receiver Ronnie Bell said. "That's all we wanted." The Wolverines are coming off a rare win in the series. Until Jim Harbaugh finally beat the Buckyes last year at home, they had won a school-record eight straight and 15 of 16 against Michigan.

What has it been like for coach Ryan Day to have a whole year to think about that loss to the Wolverines? "That has not been easy, hasn't been good," Day said. "We’ll probably talk about it more this week, but looking forward to the preparation. Our guys have been focused on it all offseason. And during the season, it’s always been in the back of our minds. "We work it every day of the year. And so, the week is officially here.” The Buckeyes have been waiting for two years to beat their rivals at home, missing out on the last opportunity in 2020 during the pandemic-shortened season when the matchup was canceled because of a COVID-19 outbreak within the Wolverines' program. Michigan has not won at Ohio State since 2000, which is also the last year it won a second straight game in the series. The Buckeyes have not lost a game since Hassan Haskins matched a school record with five rushing touchdowns and Aidan Hutchinson had three sacks in last year's win for Michigan. - AP College Football

Ohio State has been at or near the top of the national scoring chart seven years in a row, and the Buckeyes have been especially prolific at home. Their 56-14 win over Indiana on Saturday made them the first Big Ten team since the 1903 Michigan Wolverines to score at least 45 points in six straight home games in the same season, according to Elias Sports Bureau. The Buckeyes' streak started after they managed just 21 against Notre Dame in the opener. They set a national season high with 77 against Toledo two weeks later. Ohio State is scoring 50.6 points per home game this season, and it's averaging a Bowl Subdivision-high 48.4 points over 45 games at Ohio Stadium since 2016, according to Sportradar. Tennessee is the 2022 season leader in home scoring, at 55.3 points per game. - AP College Football

Miyan Williams rushed for 147 yards and a touchdown before leaving with an injury late in the first half, C.J Stroud threw five TD passes and No. 2 Ohio State buried Indiana 56-14 on Saturday. Williams went down awkwardly on his right ankle and had to be helped to a cart and taken to the locker room with 2:17 left in the half. That came after the Buckeyes had pushed the score to 28-7 on Williams' 48-yard scoring run. Williams has carried the load of the Ohio State running game the last two games with TreVeyon Williams out with injury. Ohio State hasn't disclosed a timetable for Henderson's return but could certainly run into some difficulty if both experienced backs are still on the shelf for the showdown with No. 3 Michigan in two weeks.

Freshman Dallen Hayden moved up to be the No. 1 back, rushing for 102 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Xavier Johnson lined up as a back and ran for a 71-yard TD in the fourth quarter. The Buckeyes (10-0, 7-0 Big Ten, No. 2 CFP) had piled up 377 yards by the time Williams left the game and seemed to be back on track after struggling to beat Northwestern on a windy day the previous week. They finished with 662. Stroud, who passed for a season-low 76 yards against Northwestern, was 17 for 28 for 297 yards against the Hoosiers (3-7, 1-6), throwing two touchdown passes to tight end Cade Stover and one each to Emeka Egbuka, Marvin Harrison Jr. and Kamryn Babb. Indiana's starting quarterback Connor Bazelak, who returned after sitting out last week's loss to Penn State with an injury, didn't last long. After the Hoosiers went three-and-out on their first three possessions, Bazelak was benched in favor of Dexter Williams II, who threw for two touchdowns, their only scores of the day. - Ohio State/AP College Football

C.J. Stroud overcame a slow start to throw four second-half touchdown passes, Ohio State's defense took advantage of six Iowa turnovers and the second-ranked Buckeyes pulled away for a 54-10 rout of the Hawkeyes on Saturday. Tanner McCallister had two interceptions and Tommy Eichenberg had a pick-6 as Ohio State took advantage of an inept Iowa offense to consistently start drives with good field position. Miyan Williams rushed for a first-half touchdown, and Stroud threw to Marvin Harrison, Emeka Egbuka, Julian Fleming and Mitch Rossi for second-half touchdowns. Noah Ruggles contributed four field goals after kicking just two in the previous six games.

The game wasn't pretty early for the Buckeyes (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten), who struggled to finish drives against Iowa's top-10 defense before Stroud and Co. caught fire late. On Iowa's first play from scrimmage, Spencer Petras threw right into the arms of McCallister. Ohio State took over at the Iowa 32 but had to settle for a 46-yard field goal. Later in the first, on Ohio State's first play after an Iowa punt, defensive end Joe Evans came through the middle untouched and smashed into Stroud, who fumbled at his own 11. Evans scooped it and trotted in for what would be Iowa's only touchdown. Linebacker Eichenberg's pick-6 gave Ohio State a 26-10 lead at halftime. Backup quarterback Alex Padilla took over for Petras in the third quarter and on the second play was picked off by McCallister at the Iowa 15. Four plays later, Stroud roped a 6-yard TD pass to Harrison and extended the lead late in the third with a 13-yard pass to Egbuka. Stroud hit Fleming in stride tearing down the middle for a 79-yard TD, and then tossed a short scoring pass to Rossi. - Ohio State/AP College Football

C.J. Stroud tied a school record with six touchdown passes and No. 3 Ohio State coasted to a 49-20 win over Michigan State on Saturday. The Buckeyes (6-0, 3-0 Big Ten) scored on their opening drive for the fifth straight game when Marvin Harrison Jr. caught his first of three touchdowns. TreVeyon Henderson ran for 118 yards and a touchdown before limping off the field with an apparent right leg injury in the third quarter. The Spartans (2-4, 0-3) have lost four straight after winning their first two games this season.

Stroud was 21 of 26 for 361 yards. He became the first player in program history to throw six touchdowns in three games, a feat he pulled off in consecutive contests against Michigan State. Stroud threw an interception for the third straight game and the latest was returned 32 yards to pull the Spartans into a 7-all tie. Harrison had seven catches, including some acrobatic grabs while draped by a defender, for 118 yards and three scores. Emeka Egbuka had five receptions for 143 yards and a score, a 69-yard catch on Stroud's first throw after his Pick-6 in the second quarter. Payton Thorne was 11 of 18 for 113 yards with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Jayden Reed to pull the Spartans within eight points early in the second quarter before they gave up 28 straight points in the lopsided game. Thorne, who also threw an interception, could not rely on a running game that gained just 7 yards against the Buckeyes. - Ohio State/AP College Football

Cade Stover and Emeka Egbuka each caught two of C.J. Stroud's five touchdown passes, Miyan Williams rushed for two more scores and No. 3 Ohio State blew by Wisconsin early and cruised to a 52-21 win on Saturday night. The Buckeyes (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten) scored touchdowns on their first four drives and led 31-7 at the half. Wisconsin could only slow them down after that but didn't get closer than 21 points. Running backs TreVeyon Henderson and Williams both had 100-yard games; Henderson had 121 yards, and Williams averaged more than 9 yards per carry in rumbling for 101.

Stroud completed 17 of 27 attempts for 281 yards and also threw an interception for the first time this season. He has 16 touchdown passes in four games. The TD catches were the first for Stover, a tight end in his fourth year who has also played defensive end and linebacker for the Buckeyes. His first was on a 13-yard toss, two plays after after Ohio State safety Tanner McCalister picked off Wisconsin quarterback Graham Mertz. Later the 6-foot-4, 255-pound tight end caught a 2-yard scoring pass to put the Buckeyes up 21-0 before the end of the first quarter. Egbuka caught scoring passes of 32 and 8 yards. Julian Fleming also caught a touchdown pass for the Buckeyes. Mertz was 11 for 20 for 94 yards, rushed for a touchdown and threw for another. Braelon Allen rushed for 165 yards, including a 75-yard TD romp in the fourth quarter. - Ohio State/AP College Football

C.J. Stroud threw five touchdown passes and No. 3 Ohio State rolled up 762 yards on the way to a runaway 77-21 victory over Toledo on Saturday night. The Buckeyes (3-0) scored on all six of their first-half possessions, with Stroud completing 18 of 20 passes for 297 yards and a pair of touchdown passes each to Marvin Harrison Jr. and Julian Fleming on the way to a 42-14 lead. Stroud, a Heisman Trophy favorite, completed 22 of 27 passes for 367 yards before yielding to backups late in the third quarter. The Buckeyes' offensive output was the most since they gained 776 yards in a 77-10 win over another Mid-American Conference team, Bowling Green, in 2016.

TreVeyon Henderson, an AP Preseason All-American, scored on a 7-yard run to put Ohio State on the board in the first quarter, but the second-year back didn't play again because of an unspecified injury that briefly sent him to the locker room. Toledo tied it at 7 early on Dequan Finn's 50-yard TD heave on the run to Thomas Zsiros, but the Buckeyes assumed control and ran away with it. That wasn't for lack of effort on the part of Finn, who made the Rockets' offense at least look respectable. He passed for 153 yards and two TDs, while rushing for 70 and another score. Harrison is on a roll for the Buckeyes. The second-year receiver had six catches for 102 yards - all in the first half - including two acrobatic touchdown passes. That followed seven catches for 184 yards and three TDs in last week's win over Arkansas State. Emeka Egbuka had seven catches for 116yards and a TD and added another score rushing. - Ohio State/AP College Football

With its vaunted offense bogged down, No. 2 Ohio State leaned on its revamped defense in a top-five opener against a former Buckeye that tested its toughness. C.J. Stroud threw two touchdown passes and Ohio State shut out No. 5 Notre Dame over the final 42 minutes in a gritty 21-10 victory on Saturday night. "The story of the night was the defense, to turn around and play the way they did after what's been said about them in the off-season, questioning their toughness, and play the way they did against the No. 5 team in the country...I thought the energy was off the charts for the defense tonight," Ohio State coach Ryan Day said. The first regular-season meeting of the storied programs since 1996 was a homecoming for first-year Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman. The former Buckeyes linebacker has made a meteoric rise to lead the Fighting Irish at the age of 36.

Freeman is 0-2 as a head coach after losing a bowl game just weeks after being named Brian Kelly's successor. The Irish hung with the high-scoring Buckeyes for most of three quarters, frustrating Heisman Trophy finalist Stroud and putting together a couple of first-half scoring drives. "We battled for two and a half quarters, but then they scored with 17 seconds left in the third and we didn't respond," Freeman said. Ohio State's defense, too generous against the run last season, put the clamps on the Irish and new starting quarterback Tyler Buchner in the second half. "We were called soft all last year and we had to sit there and just eat," Ohio State defensive back Lathan Ransom said. Day turned over his defensive staff in the offseason, bringing in Jim Knowles from Oklahoma State to be coordinator. How quickly the Buckeyes would pick up a scheme that is considered more complicated and multiple than the one they have been running was an open question. - Ohio State/AP College Football

Hours after the Big Ten announced a new TV deal on Thursday, a record-setting agreement with multiple broadcast networks that will be worth billions of dollars for the league, Ohio State star quarterback C.J. Stroud expressed support for the idea of players receiving a portion of the revenue. "I definitely think it should be shared," Stroud said, "but if not, at the end of the day, we have the NIL space. We can do it that way. The new college world is turning around, and I'm here for it." Opportunities for compensation have grown over the last year with NCAA rules changes allowing players to make money from their name, image and likeness.

But limits remain. Athletes are not paid salaries by schools. Their income comes from endorsement deals struck with third-party companies and booster-led collectives that pay them for promotional work. The benefits schools provide players include tuition, room and board and stipends to cover cost-of-living expenses as part of scholarships. In Stroud's views, players deserve a larger piece of the growing financial pie. "This game is amazing, especially the college atmosphere, because it does have amateurism to it," Stroud said. "That's definitely a plus. But at the same time, I'm not 100% sure what our tuition is, but I'm sure it's not the worth of what we're actually worth. My mom has always told me to know my worth." - Columbus Dispatch

C.J. Stroud wasn't known for his running ability in his first season as Ohio State football's starting quarterback. In fact, his lack thereof was a constant talking point for why he didn't do so more often. He's heard every complaint possible from fans and even his own friends and family teasing him about his willingness to do so. Entering his second year as an established quarterback, Stroud is hoping to use his legs more and has also done the necessary work to be able to do so. "I feel the best I've ever felt in my life," Stroud said. "I (hit my personal record) in squat. I PR'd in bench. In my running, I forgot the mileage I hit, but I PR'd in that. I'm the fastest I've been since I've been alive." Stroud's physical transformation is the result of him choosing to take the weight room and his nutrition seriously in a way he didn't want to do in high school, thinking his arm talent would be enough. "It's pretty cool to see Coach Mickey (Marotti's) mindset and his thought process," Stroud said. "When you get here, you really don't understand. But now, since I understand, I've definitely seen the growth not only physically but mentally as well." - Cleveland Plain Dealer

It may be a top-five matchup per the preseason AP Top 25 poll, but Ohio State football remains a big favorite over Notre Dame in sportsbooks. The No. 2 Buckeyes opened as 13.5-point favorites over the No. 5 Fighting Irish, per VegasInsider.com. That line rose to 14.5 by Wednesday morning. The point total also rose slightly to 58.5, up half a point from its opening. If that spread holds, OSU will be a larger favorite for this season opener than it was a year ago at Minnesota. That line was an even 14 points.

The teams have not played since the Fiesta Bowl after the 2015 season. According to the OddsShark.com database, Ohio State covered a 4.5-point spread with a 44-28 victory. It also covered the same spread in the Fiesta Bowl after the 2005 season with a 34-20 victory. This is the teams' first regular-season meeting since Sept. 30, 1995. The Buckeyes were 7.5-point favorites that day and easily covered with a 45-26 victory. Ohio State has not opened against a ranked opponent since a 2003 home game against Washington. - Cleveland Plain Dealer

After a year's absence from the playoff, Ohio State football will again open the 2022 season in the conversation for the nation's best team. The Buckeyes received five first-place votes and are ranked No. 2 in the preseason USA Today Coaches Poll. Alabama was the overwhelming No. 1 with 54 first-place votes. Defending national champion and No. 3 Georgia received six first-place votes. Texas, ranked No. 18 overall, received the other first-place vote. The Associated Press preseason top 25 poll will be released on Aug. 15. Clemson, Notre Dame and Michigan rounded out the top six in the coaches poll. The Fighting Irish and Wolverines headline the six teams ranked among the top 27 vote-getters who appear on OSU's regular-season schedule. The others are No. 14 Michigan State, No. 20 Wisconsin and Iowa and Penn State, who were the top two teams also receiving votes who did not make the top 25. - Cleveland Plain Dealer

One of the few criticisms of C.J. Stroud last year was about his reluctance to run. He's not going to be Braxton Miller, J.T. Barrett or Justin Fields with his legs, but Stroud said that's an element he'll be more willing to use. "I don't want to prove anything, but I definitely want to show that I can run the ball," he said. "If my number is called to do that this year, then I will." That would add another dimension to an Ohio State offense that led the country in scoring and yards last year. With a supporting cast that includes Smith-Njigba and several emerging stars at receiver, sophomore running back TreVeyon Henderson and a potentially dominating offensive line, OSU's offense that could be at least as potent as last year's. Complacency will not be an issue for Stroud. "I feel like I barely touched my potential," he said. "I feel like I can do a lot more. Hopefully. God blesses me with that opportunity, and I'm working for that." - Columbus Dispatch

Tyler Nubin and his fellow Minnesota defenders had little intel on which to base their game plan for Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud in last season's opener. A little film from the Buckeyes' spring game. Some scouting reports from the recruiting scene. Stroud did not throw a pass in 2020 as a true freshman. He attempted 22 that night against the Golden Gophers. Nubin said the quarterback they faced was no novice. "He's ultra-talented, man," Nubin said. "His arm talent is something I honestly had not seen in a while." Stroud threw for 294 yards and four touchdowns with one interception against Minnesota. That night, especially a much cleaner second half, set the stage for a season that culminated in a trip to New York as a Heisman Trophy finalist and a blistering Rose Bowl performance.

Stroud led Big Ten quarterbacks in pass efficiency rating by almost 30 points. That mark of 186.56 was the highest in the conference since Wisconsin's Russell Wilson posted a 191.78 in 2011. Wilson, though, did that as a fifth-year player and fourth-year starter. Setting aside early struggles related to a sore right shoulder, Stroud debuted as, if not a finished product, certainly a more complete one. Asking around various defensive players at Big Ten Media Days this week, a consensus formed that Stroud did not look, act or think like a Big Ten quarterback. "He's just more of a pro quarterback compared to the other guys, from where he puts the ball to how he stands in the pocket and the poise - just looking like a pro football player," Nebraska cornerback Quinton Newsome said. "It's something you can see on film, but you don't really know until you're going against him." - Cleveland Plain Dealer

C.J. Stroud closed 2021 with an explosive Rose Bowl performance that backed up his selection as Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year. He opens 2022 as the favorite to repeat that award. Stroud received 32 of 35 first-place votes for preseason offensive player of the year in the 12th annual cleveland.com preseason Big Ten football poll. Jaxon Smith-Njibga, Stroud's top returning receiver who broke the Big Ten single-season record for receiving yards last season, landed two first-place votes. He edged Wisconsin running back Braelon Allen by five points for second place.

Allen appeared on four more ballots, but received no first-place votes. Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa received the other first-place vote. Stroud received two first-place votes in last year's poll despite not yet being named OSU's starter at the time.   C.J. Stroud continues to prepare for the 2022 season. The Ohio State redshirt sophomore quarterback was in Dallas July 1-3 to help coach a Nike Football Skills Camp with Buckeyes wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and safety Ronnie Hickman, along with Texas running back Bijan Robinson and Texas linebacker Demarvion Overshown. It seems like Stroud is sticking around a bit longer.

He was seen in Austin, Texas, working out with former Ohio State and current Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields, former Liberty and newly-drafted Tennessee Titans quarterback Malik Willis and Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson. Watson is currently awaiting a ruling from the NFL on possible punishment after allegations of sexual misconduct during massage therapy sessions, reaching confidential settlements with all but four of the women who accused him. Last season, Stroud finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy race, finishing the season with 4,425 passing yards, 44 touchdowns and six interceptions. - Columbus Dispatch

The Ohio State football program celebrates Ohio Stadium's 100th anniversary in 2022 and to mark the occasion, the Buckeyes will spend the entire first month of the season playing home games. The Buckeyes' 2022 schedule features eight home games including the first five games of the season, the first two games of the Big Ten Conference schedule and the last game of 2022. And what better way to kickoff the centennial celebration of Ohio Stadium than playing one of college football's most historic programs, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to begin the season.

The home schedule will also include 119th meeting between the Michigan Wolverines and the Buckeyes. It will be just the third time since 2001 that Buckeyes play The Game after losing the previous season. Ohio State will enter the year likely ranked among the top five teams in the country with a 2021 Heisman Trophy finalist at quarterback in C.J. Stroud and a new defense under coordinator Jim Knowles. - Columbus Dispatch

Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud will be at the Manning Passing Academy later this week. Stroud is one of 46 college passers who were selected to serve as counselors for the prestigious camp hosted by one of football's first families, according to its brochure. The counselors tutor more than a thousand high school and middle school quarterbacks who are registered to attend, and they include Alabama's Bryce Young, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner who edged Stroud for the player of the year award last season, as well as fellow Big Ten signal callers Connor Bazelak of Indiana, Penn State's Sean Clifford and Purdue's Aidan O'Connell.

In addition to working with the younger passers, the counselors go through a skills competition over the four days. The camp, which has been run by Archie Manning and his three sons, Cooper, Peyton and Eli, for more than two decades, is being held at Nicholls State in Thibodaux, Louisiana, starting Thursday. - Columbus Dispatch

Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud has some new wheels following his latest name, image and likeness deal. Stroud will be driving a pre-owned Bentley Bentayga as part of a partnership with Sarchione Auto Gallery, a dealership in Canton. In exchange for the luxury SUV, which is valued at $150,000, he will promote the auto dealership on social media and make public appearances at its gallery, including one scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. "When you talk to people, whether it's in the community or at the game, our brand awareness is what we're building," said Ryan Burton, the general manager of Sarchione Auto Gallery, "so when you have the best-of-the-best promoting your brand, it only does good things."

The northeast Ohio dealership has previously partnered with players from the Cleveland Browns, but its deal with Stroud marked the first one it had struck with the Buckeyes since endorsement deals with college players became permissible under NCAA rules last summer. Burton said he expected a couple of other Ohio State players to follow Stroud later this year. Athletes First, the agency that represents Stroud in negotiating NIL opportunities, first reached out to Sarchione Auto Gallery to express interest in a potential partnership. - Columbus Dispatch

While there was plenty of hope about his potential performance, people didn't know what to expect from Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud last season. And he became a Heisman Trophy finalist. By the final game of the year, and in the Rose Bowl, Stroud had the best single-game statistical effort of any quarterback in Ohio State history, so this year they're expecting greatness. Ohio State coach Ryan Day cuts his optimism with realism. "Just because he did it last year doesn't mean it's just gonna happen this year. If anything else, he's got a bull's-eye on his chest," Day said on 97.1 The Fan recently.

Still, Stroud is no longer being chided by fans but touted as perhaps the next big thing and possibly even the No. 1 pick in next year's NFL draft. But after a great spring, offensive coordinator Jim Knowles compares Stroud's performance to a two-time Super Bowl MVP. "When I was at Ole Miss with Eli Manning, he was the same way in that the guys that are good - which C.J. is - they can diagnose. There's always a soft spot. We're trying to diagnose, bluff rotations and try to deceive the quarterback and do all those and show on picture and end up at another." - Elevenwarriors.com

Ohio State is expanding its name, image and likeness offerings. The athletic department announced Thursday that it has launched a program aimed at providing opportunities for athletes to serve as brand ambassadors for companies around Columbus. Carey Hoyt, a senior associate athletic director who oversees NIL administration, said the corporate ambassador program was modeled after an initiative that arranges internships for athletes through partnerships with about 60 local businesses. Responsibilities for participating athletes would include promotional work on behalf of a company such as posting on social media or making public appearances.

Though Ohio State is facilitating the deals, Hoyt said it will not be involved in setting any finer details of the agreements. "The key to it is the companies are going to negotiate with student-athletes their value," Hoyt said. "We're not saying to a company like, "Hey, this student-athlete is worth $10,000 a tweet." Nothing like that. We're really just matching the companies with the student-athletes that could be a fit and letting them determine the details of the contract." Hoyt's hope is to bring in around 20 partner companies within the first year of the program. "I would consider that a success," she said. The athletic department has taken an increasingly active role this year in facilitating NIL arrangements. - Columbus Dispatch

Speaking to about 100 members of the Columbus business community on Thursday morning, Ohio State football coach Ryan Day put a Name, Image and Likeness price tag on what he believes it will take to keep the Ohio State football roster together. That rate? $13 million. To some schools engaged in NIL payments at the highest level right now, that number might sound small and quaint.

To many other schools in the Big Ten, it may sound gigantic and impossible. As usual, it's a number that puts Ohio State in the thick of the latest changes to college sports, as the Buckeyes always say they seek to straddle the line of keeping up without going too far. And while it might be tempting to look at $13 million for an 85-man scholarship football team as $150,000 per player, I think the better calculation is something closer to $500,000 each for the 26 guys you can't live without. - Cleveland Plain Dealer

Ohio State football will open the season with a primetime showdown in Ohio Stadium against Notre Dame on Saturday, Sept. 3. A kickoff time of 7:30 p.m. was announced on Tuesday. The game will be shown on ABC, and ESPN GameDay will set up in Columbus for the day. It will be GameDay's 21st visit to Columbus, the last coming on Nov. 20 last season when the Buckeyes hosted Michigan State in a top-10 matchup. Ohio State won that one to improve to 15-5 when GameDay camps outside Ohio Stadium.

Also, ABC claimed the fourth game of the season for the Buckeyes, their Big Ten opener at home on Sept. 24 against Wisconsin. That kickoff time has not yet been set. The Michigan kickoff time was announced Monday. That game on Nov. 26 in Columbus will start on noon on Fox. Notre Dame should be the most talented team that the Buckeyes face in the 2022 regular season, with first-year coach and former Ohio State linebacker Marcus Freeman leading the Fighting Irish into the Shoe. This game is the first of a home-and-home series that will send Ohio State to South Bend next season. - Cleveland Plain Dealer
