Mohamed Toure makes the most of his time. The Rutgers linebacker and situational pass rusher had a game-changing interception in last Saturday's win at Purdue. He also had two sacks and two forced fumbles in the Scarlet Knights' season-opening win at Michigan State. And he's been a standout special teams contributor all fall. It's not easy to have a star-like impact while playing a backup's snap count. But if the Pleasantville native keeps it up, he won't be one much longer. "I think Mohamed is growing leaps and bounds as a football player," coach Greg Schiano said. "He's learning about the game of football."

Toure was a three-star recruit in high school who stayed committed to the Scarlet Knights after Wisconsin made a late push. He enrolled early ahead of the 2019 season, but only played in two games last season and redshirted. "It gave me time to watch and think, understand the game a little," he said. "It gave me time to develop my body and grow physically and mentally." Schiano credited linebackers coach Bob Fraser for building a strong relationship with Toure and fostering his development, as well as the veteran players ahead of him on the depth chart. Toure has made significant strides from a mental standpoint, Schiano said. "He's always been a tremendous athlete, a big man that can run very well," he said. "But there is a game within a game that most people don't know exist, but if you're going to be a really good player you are going to understand that game. Little by little he's understanding it, and it's fun to watch." - Star Ledger
