Joey Bosa's record-breaking contract extension Tuesday night brought the football world's attention back to the defensive end factory Larry Johnson runs at Ohio State. One assumes the models still in the shop took notice as well. That includes Zach Harrison. The rising sophomore who came down State Road 315 from Olentangy Orange last as a top-15 national prospect hinted at bigger things that may soon be in his reach. In 2019, Harrison was one of the many Buckeye defensive linemen overshadowed by Chase Young's brilliance. So what do Harrison's freshman-year numbers mean by comparison? He played more snaps than any other defensive end except Young, which helps explain why he reached 24 tackles despite primarily being a backup.

Yet he also showed some ability to chase down opponents and make plays away from the trenches. The five tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks reflected solid production for a reserve. Those are the areas where Ohio State needs Harrison to step up and assert himself. The only returning Buckeye with more sacks was linebacker Baron Browning, who tallied five but capitalized multiple times on blitzing off of Young's shoulder against understandably distracted opposing tackles. - Cleveland Plain Dealer
