One week before the start of spring practice, the Michigan football team is losing one of its most experienced linebackers. Devin Gil, who appeared in 39 games over the last three seasons for the Wolverines, says he's entering the transfer portal. Gil made the announcement Tuesday evening in a post on social media, signaling plans to graduate from the University of Michigan this spring and play right away in 2020. "I would like to thank the University of Michigan for providing me with the opportunity to earn my college degree while pursuing my love of football," Gil wrote.

"I would also like to thank coach (Jim) Harbaugh and coach (Don) Brown for the knowledge that I have gained and for the experiences that I was fortunate to have participated in here at the University of Michigan." Gil, a Pembroke Pines, Fla., native, totaled 47 tackles (four for a loss) and 1 1/2 sacks over the course of his career at Michigan. He redshirted his freshman season in 2016 before gaining more responsibilities in 2017. Then, Gil started all 13 games at weak-side linebacker and turned in a productive 2018 season, totaling 33 tackles (3 1/2 for a loss) and 1 1/2 sacks. - Ann Arbor News
