Auburn returns its key core of four linebackers from last season in seniors K.J. Britt and Chandler Wooten, junior Zakoby McClain and sophomore Owen Pappoe. While Britt (12 starts, with the lone exception the LSU game when Auburn utilized a 3-1-7 scheme) and Pappoe (13 starts) were staples in the starting lineup, the Tigers relied on all four of these players rotating at linebacker throughout the season. As linebackers coach Travis Williams likes to say: Auburn doesn't have starters at linebacker; it has standards.

These four have helped raise the standard at the position for the Tigers, who have reshaped the linebacker corps since Steele's arrival and Williams took over the room. Britt earned All-SEC honors last year, in his first season as a starter, and will be the voice of Auburn's defense in 2020. Pappoe finished as the team's sixth-leading tackler last season and was the first true freshman to make an impact at linebacker since at least 2012. - Birmingham News
