WEEK 3 WALTER CAMP NATIONAL FBS DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: IAN FOSTER, SOUTHERN MISS, Redshirt Sophomore, Safety, Brundidge, AL,...Ian Foster recorded a career-high 12 tackles (5 solo) as the Golden Eagles defeated Sun Belt Conference rival App State, 38-22. Foster also had one interception which he returned 99 yards for a touchdown and added three pass breakups, one on a 3rd and 2 play late in the first half to quell a Mountaineer drive in which he almost collected his second interception, and one o n 4th and 9 late midway through the fourth quarter to end another App State possession. Notes: It is the second time a Southern Miss player has earned Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors since 2004 (linebacker Michael Boley, Sept. 12, 2004). - Walter Camp Football Foundation

WEEK 3 SUN BELT DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ian Foster, Southern Miss (RS So., DB - Brundidge, Ala.),...Southern Miss redshirt sophomore defensive back Ian Foster carded a career-high 12 tackles as the Golden Eagles defeated App State, 38-22, in the Su n Belt Conference opener. The Brundidge, Ala., native snared a pass that bounced out of a Mountaineer receiver's hands and returned it for a 99-yard pick six in the second quarter. The interception was 1-of-3 red zone takeaways for the Southern Miss defe nse, while Foster's return was tied for the third-longest in program history. Ian Foster had a 99-yard pick-6 for one of three Southern Miss interceptions, all in the red zone, and the Golden Eagles beat Appalachian State 38-22 on Saturday night. Foster scooped up a dropped pass from senior running back Rashod Dubinion, who stumbl ed while attempting to catch what would have been a sure touchdown. Dubinion bobbled the ball, and Foster plucked it out of the air to run it 99 yards the other way. AJ Swann's first interception went to Anthony Richard Jr. The second was by Foster and t he third by Mathias Haygood.Swann was 15 for 23 for 217 yards for App State (2-1, 0-1 Sun Belt) before being replaced by freshman Noah Gillon. Gillon was 11 for 24 with 109 yards. J'Mond Tapp, a transfer formerly of Texas and Arizona State, had ne ver recorded a sack in his collegiate career before getting three against App State. Braylon Braxton was 22 of 30 for 279 yards with two TDs and an interception for Southern Miss (2-1, 1-0). Tychaun Chapman had 112 yards receiving.
