A dominant and steady force on the offensive front, Smith anchored a unit that powered the Bulldogs to 5,050 yards of total offense, averaging 420.8 yards per game. With Smith leading the way, S.C. State paced the MEAC in passing offense (28 4.0 ypg), ranking ninth nationally, and finished second in the conference in total offense (413.0 ypg), 20th nationally.
