  12/13/25 - QB Pat McQuaiderSr/2026, Villanova, 6-0, 205 (DS#82 QB) + More +

Pat McQuaide threw a fourth-quarter touchdown pass to Braden Reed for Villanova's first lead and the Wildcats escaped with a 26-21 win over Tarleton State in an FCS quarterfinal Saturday. The 12th-seeded Wildcats (12-2) won their 11th straight game - their longest streak since winning 12 in 1997 - to advance to play unseeded Illinois State in a semifinal next Saturday. The fourth-seeded Texans (12-2) began their final drive with about eight minutes left and reached the Villanova 11 with two minutes remaining. On fourth-and-6, Victor Gabalis found Trevon West for an apparent touchdown. But the score was overturned when replays showed West just missed getting a toe down inbounds on the left edge of the end zone.

Gabalis had extended a two-point halftime lead to 21-12 with his 15-yard pass to West before Ja'briel Mace's 47-yard rushing TD again made it a two-point game in the third quarter. Mace had 151 yards rushing. Tarleton scored first after Omar Emmons blocked a punt with Daniel Creek eventually scoring from the 1. The Texans made it 14-0 in the first quarter after McQuaide tried to flip the ball to a receiver in the end zone but it was snagged by Blake Smith. On the next play, Gabalis found Peyton Kramer deep down the middle for an 80-yard score. Villanova got on the board with a Jack Barnum field goal then Anthony Hopkins' interception set up Reed's 27-yard wide-receiver TD pass to Lucas Kopecky. Another Barnum field goal cut Tarleton's lead to 14-12 at halftime. The Texans dropped their first home game after seven wins this season and had a nine-game home streak snapped. - AP College Football

Pat McQuaide threw for 208 yards and a touchdown and Villanova upset third-ranked Lehigh 14-7 on Saturday to advance to the quarterfinal round of the FCS playoffs. Villanova (11-2), which entered the playoffs as a 12 seed, will face the winner of North Dakota and Tarleton State. The Wildcats will make their third appearance in the quarterfinals in the last five seasons. It was Villanova's first playoff road win since 2010. Beginning next season the two programs will become annual rivals as Villanova will join Lehigh in the Patriot League. McQuaide's 28-yard scoring pass to Braden Reed with 3:02 left gave Villanova its first lead of the game.

On Lehigh's (12-1) final drive, the Mountain Hawks drove 54 yards, and on first-and-10 at the Villanova 14, Wildcats defensive lineman Obinna Nwobodo stripped Hayden Johnson on a quarterback keep and Villanova linebacker Shane Hartzell recovered. Villanova ran seven plays, including a key 12-yard completion from McQuaide to Antonio Johnson on third-and-8 at their own 13, and the Wildcats allowed time to expire. After a scoreless first half, Lehigh took the second half kickoff and drove 75 yards in five plays and ended the drive when Aaron Crossley ran it in from the 5. Johnson completed a 36-yard pass to Matt D'Avino and Luke Yoder had a 31-yard run on consecutive plays to help set up the score. Villanova knotted it at 7 later in the third when after a Yoder fumble, the Wildcats put together a six-play, 59-yard drive that resulted in Ja'briel Mace crashing in from the 1 with 2:29 left in the third. - AP College Football
