Kaytron Allen, Penn State, Player News

  11/29/25 - RB Kaytron AllenSr/2026, Penn State, 5-10, 219 (DS#3 RB) + More +

Kaytron Allen ran for a career-high 226 yards and a touchdown as Penn State beat Rutgers 40-36 for the 18th straight time to become bowl eligible after a tumultuous season. The Nittany Lions (6-6, 3-6 Big Ten) retook the lead for good when linebacker Amare Campbell raced 61-yards with a fumble with 7:27 to play. Rutgers quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis lost the ball without being touched. Rutgers (5-7, 2-7 Big Ten) had moved ahead 36-33 early in the fourth quarter on a 46-yard TD pass from Kaliakmanis to Antwan Raymond. Raymond ran for 189 yards and Kaliakmanis passed for 338 yards and three TDs. There were four lead changes in the second half. Rutgers turned the ball over on downs with 3:55 to go when Kaliakmanis lost a yard on fourth-and-1 on the Penn State 27-yard-line on a read-option play. "One of the things we learned tonight was how to end the game on our terms," said Penn State interim coach Terry Smith. "The defense struggled all night. It was not pretty, but they figured out a way. That's football. "We ended the game on our terms." Rutgers lost three of its last four games, giving up at least 35 points in all of them. Campbell led Penn State with 14 tackles. "He (Campbell) deserves a lot of credit, and he plays really hard," said Smith. "He is very productive, solid, and consistent. I don't know what we would do without him. He is a stable piece in the middle for us. Just a tremendous effort tonight." Penn State hasn't missed a bowl game since 2020 when the non-College Football Playoff bowl games were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

After losing to Notre Dame in the semifinals of the CFP last season, the expectations for Penn State were high. The Nittany Lions began the season ranked No. 2 and were led by quarterback Drew Allar, who was headed for a Heisman-caliber season before a season-ending leg injury in Week Six against Northwestern. The following day coach James Franklin was fired after Penn State lost its first three Big Ten games, including back-to-back games in which the Nittany Lions were favored by 20-plus points. Penn State would lose six straight before turning its season around by winning its last three games. Penn State hasn't made a decision on its next coach, but Smith remains confident in the job he did turning around the Nittany Lions' season. - Penn State/AP College Football

Kaytron Allen ran for 160 yards and two touchdowns, and Penn State's defense played its best game of the season to keep the Nittany Lions' bowl hopes alive with a 37-10 win over Nebraska on Saturday night. Allen, who racked up 181 yards rushing in last week's win against Michigan State, became Penn State's career rushing leader with 3,954 yards, passing Evan Royster's 3,932 set in 2010. The senior back plowed through and zipped around the Huskers all night. Allen passed Saquon Barkley on the school's career rushing list in the first half before eclipsing Royster with a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter. By then the Nittany Lions (5-6, 2-6 Big Ten) had put the game out of reach, scoring on five-straight possessions while their defense stymied the Cornhuskers.

Allen ripped off a 50-yard run around Nebraska's left flank on the Nittany Lion's opening drive to help setup a short touchdown toss from Ethan Grunkemeyer to tight end Andrew Rappleyea. Ryan Barker booted a 26-yard field goal, then Nicholas Singleton capped Penn State's next two drives with 4- and 10-yard rushing touchdowns to make it 23-3 at halftime. Emmett Johnson had 19 carries for 103 yards and eight catches for 48 for yards for the Cornhuskers (7-4, 4-4), who have lost three of their last five. They didn't give themselves much of chance in head coach and State College native Matt Rhule's return to Beaver Stadium. Nebraska mustered just 140 yards in the first half, turned the ball over on downs twice and punted twice more. Penn State forced three more turnovers on downs in the second half. - Penn State/AP College Football

Ethan Grunkemeyer threw two touchdown passes to Devonte Ross, Kaytron Allen ran for 181 yards and two touchdowns and Penn State defeated Michigan State 28-10 on Saturday to snap a six-game losing streak. Grunkemeyer completed 8 of 13 passes for 127 yards for the Nittany Lions (4-6 overall, 1-6 Big Ten). Grunkemeyer sealed the win with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Ross with 4:32 left and Allen added his second touchdown on a 26-yard run with 2:07 remaining. Alessio Milivojevic completed 17 of 27 passes for 128 yards for the Spartans (3-7, 0-7) who lost their seventh straight game.

Elijah Tau-Tolliver ran 57 yards for a touchdown on Michigan State's first play of the game. Allen tied it on the ensuing Penn State possession with an 8-yard scoring run. Following a Michigan State field goal, the Nittany Lions went in front 14-10 on Grunkemeyer's 75-yard touchdown pass to Ross. Michigan State quarterback Aidan Chiles did not play as he was on the pregame sidelines wearing a walking boot on his left foot. He started the first eight games of the season but saw his streak of 20 consecutive starts come to an end on Nov. 1 against Minnesota when he was replaced by Milivojevic. The Spartans played their first game since the NCAA placed Michigan State's football program on three years of probation for violations that occurred during Mel Tucker's tenure as coach. - Penn State/AP College Football

Kaytron Allen ran for 86 yards and scored a season-high three times Saturday while Nicholas Singleton rushed for 73 yards and another score to help No. 16 Penn State rout Indiana 45-14. The Nittany Lions (7-2, 4-2 Big Ten) have won eight of the last nine in this series and six of their wins this season have come by double digits. Indiana (3-6, 1-5) lost its sixth in a row and perhaps its top two quarterbacks. Connor Bazelak, the transfer from Missouri who started the first eight games, watched this one in street clothes. Jack Tuttle, who replaced Bazelak in the Hoosiers lineup, left late in the first half and went straight to the locker room with an apparent shoulder injury.

True freshman Brendan Sorsby was three of six with 8 yards and one interception in his college debut. He was relieved by Dexter Williams II, who went four of 11 with 41 yards and two picks. The Nittany Lions dominated this game with a potent running combination and a suffocating defense. Singleton started the scoring with a 1-yard TD run. After Tuttle tied the score with an 11-yard TD pass to AJ Barner, the Nittany Lions quickly took control. Allen scored on runs of 11 and 6 yards on back-to-back second-quarter possessions and Jack Pinegar closed out the half with a career-long 50-yard field goal to make it 24-7. Allen's 6-yard TD run in the third quarter sealed the victory. Penn State's highly touted freshman quarterback, Drew Allar, entered in the third quarter and threw two TD passes in the fourth quarter. - Penn State/AP College Football
