Seth McGowan rushed for 104 yards and three touchdowns, Cutter Boley threw two touchdown passes in his first start of the season, and Kentucky to a 48-23 win over Eastern Michigan on Saturday night. Boley replaced Zach Calzada, who started Kentucky's fir st two games but injured his right shoulder late in the fourth quarter of last Saturday's 30-23 loss to No. 17 Mississippi. Boley was 12-of-21 passing for 240 and threw touchdowns of 3 and 4 yards to tight ends Willie Rodriquez and Josh Kattus. "We had a lot of fun out there tonight," Boley said. "I've prepared every week as if I'm the starter, and I've just maxed out my preparation to make sure I'm as comfortable as I can be when I get in there."Noah Kim kept the Eagles (0-3) close for a half. H e threw for 330 yards, including a 64-yard touchdown to Terry Lockett Jr. with 1:36 left in the first half and rushed for a 5-yard score with 58 seconds left in the game. Boley's previous start was in last year's finale against Louisville, a 41-14 loss w here he was intercepted twice and left the game with a head injury. The sophomore from Lexington responded with a solid performance, not taking a sack and completing passes to seven different receivers. "I thought he did a really good job for his second start. Seth McGowan scored on a 3-yard run with less than two minutes to play to rally New Mexico State to a 23-16 victory over FCS-member Southeast Missouri State on Saturday night in the Aggies season opener. McGowan also scored the first touchdown for New Me xico State on a 14-yard run early in the second quarter. He finished with 87 yards on 11 carries. Paxton DeLaurent threw a 51-yard scoring strike to Dorian Anderson with 2:03 left in the first quarter to give the Redhawks (1-1) a 7-0 lead. McGowan tied t he game with his first scoring run and Southeast Missouri State's DC Pippin and the Aggies' Abraham Montano traded field goals to send the game to halftime all even at 10-10.Pippin booted a 53-yard field goal for the only score of the third quarte r to put the Redhawks up 13-10 and he pushed the advantage to six with a 48-yarder 4 seconds into the fourth quarter. Montano connected on a 51-yarder to pull New Mexico State within a point with 6:07 left. McGowan's go-ahead score came with 1:57 remaini ng. Parker Awad ran it in for the 2-point conversion. DeLaurent completed 27 of 45 passes for 295 yards with one interception. Anderson finished with six catches for 115 yards. True freshman running back Seth McGowan had the honors of scoring OU's first touchdown of the night - and the Sooners' 2020 season. McGowan, who has replaced Jalen Hurts as the new No. 1 jersey in OU's backfield, punched in a score at the goal line to gi ve the Sooners a 7-0 lead with 11:24 left in the first quarter. McGowan and Marcus Major were OU's only available scholarship running backs with Pledger not on the sideline and Rhamondre Stevenson serving a suspension. - Norman Transcript
