2022 ALL-BIG SKY FIRST TEAM: DB Justin Ford (UM),...Cornerback Justin Ford, the league's newcomer of the year in 2021, also repeated as a first-team selection in his senior season. A year after intercepting the most passes in all of college football, Ford had been paid the ultimate respect from opponents in 2022 by not throwing to his side of the field. Montana's opponents have completed 198 passes against the Grizzlies this season, and only 11 have been targeted in Ford's direction. - Montana Football

Following a 10-3 campaign that featured a 6-2 league record and a trip to the Quarterfinals of the 2021 FCS Playoffs, the Montana Grizzlies have been tabbed the Big Sky Conference preseason favorites by both the league's head football coaches and media. The preseason polls were announced today as part of the Big Sky's Football Kickoff event in Spokane, Washington. Boasting a roster full of experience, the Griz seem primed for a massive 2022 campaign under the direction of head coach Bobby Hauck. It's hard to image the Grizzlies will give up many points, as their defense is anchored by 2021 Buck Buchanan Award Finalist Patrick O'Connell at linebacker and unanimous First Team All-American cornerback Justin Ford. The Griz are seeking their first Big Sky Conference title since 2009.

The second-place pick was different between the coaches and media, as defending Big Sky Champion Sacramento State was selected second by the coaches, while 2021 national runner-up Montana State was tabbed second by the media. The two reversed spots for third place in both polls. The Hornets claimed the Big Sky Conference trophy last season outright, finishing the year 8-0 in league play with marquee victories over Montana and UC Davis. Montana State finished the 2021 season 12-3, charging to the FCS National Championship Game with victories over UT Martin, Sam Houston and South Dakota State. - Big Sky Football

2021 ALL-BIG SKY CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): DB Justin Ford, Montana,...In his first season as a Grizzly after arriving from Louisville, the junior has been one of the most dominant defensive backs in all of Division-I football, going on an unprecedented streak with eight interceptions in eight-straight games. Ford's eight picks are not only the most in FCS football, but in FBS and D-II football as well. In addition to interceptions, he also ranks third in the nation in total passes defended and is second in the Big Sky and top-15 in the FCS in fumbles recovered. - Montana Football

2021 BIG SKY NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Justin Ford, DB, Montana,...Newcomer of the Year was awarded to Montana's Justin Ford, who has been a nuisance in the secondary all season long for the Griz. Ford leads the FCS in interceptions, after snagging eight in eight-straight games for Montana. The defensive back also helped the Griz hold foes to just 13.0 points per game, which ranked second in the nation. Ford, who transferred to Montana from the University of Louisville, is the first Griz player since Dalton Sneed in 2018 to win Newcomer of the Year. - Big Sky Football

Robby Hauck had 14 tackles and Jace Lewis 10; eight solo and two sacks. Montana (8-2, 5-2 Big Sky Conference) won for the first time in Flagstaff in 10 years and now the Grizzlies, ranked ninth in the FCS coaches poll, face a season-ending game with No. 3 Montana State. Montana had 427 yards of offense with Cam Humphrey throwing for 280 and Xavier Harris rushing for 70. Northern Arizona (4-6, 3-4) kicked a field goal in the third quarter.
