Memphis coach Ryan Silverfield defended how he and school administrators vetted sophomore quarterback Peter Parrish, who was named in a report accusing him of raping a woman while at LSU last season. USA Today reported Monday that Parrish, who transferre d to Memphis in August, was suspended by LSU for a year after he was accused. The story added Parrish denied the allegations through his attorney and sued LSU alleging unfair treatment. He has also not been charged with any crime. He withdrew the lawsuit in September after a judge "declined to temporarily lift his suspension.""We're confident in our process, very thorough in the way we vet these young men," Silverfield said Monday during his weekly press conference. "Just like with any other stud ent-athlete, we don't go into details about what that process looks like for each individual, and I think the reality is that's a school-wide policy is as well." The report focused on how LSU mishandled sexual misconduct complaints against several studen ts, including former running back Derrius Guice. In August, USA Today reported that two women accused Guice of raping them in 2016. Parrish, a former four-star recruit, was named as an example of LSU disciplining an athlete accused of misconduct. LSU redshirt freshman quarterback Peter Parrish, who had been suspended since January of this year, is transferring to Memphis, Parrish announced on Thursday. Parrish signed with LSU in the class of 2019 from Central High in Phenix City, Alabama, as the No. 13 dual-threat quarterback in the nation, according to 247Sports. He did not play last season and was suspended indefinitely in January for team rules violations. Parrish had entered the NCAA transfer portal early this week. LSU backup quarterback Peter Parrish has been indefinitely suspended from the team for a violation of team rules, Tigers coach Ed Orgeron said Tuesday evening. Parrish hasn't been with the team "for a while," Orgeron said, and was not with the team durin g offseason workouts following the program's national championship win in mid-January. Orgeron said he doesn't know when Parrish will return to the team. Ed Orgeron hires former LSU players Bennie Logan, Eddie 'Boo' Kennison to support staff Although th e 6-foot-1, 190-pound Parrish did not play as a true freshman in 2019, he was the most experienced option behind starter Myles Brennan. LSU's quarterback depth is now left to TJ Finley and Max Johnson, true freshmen who enrolled early and are practicing with the team this spring. LSU still has three scholarship spots available in its 2020 recruiting class, and Orgeron's coaching staff was already exploring adding transfers to fill out the 25 scholarships the NCAA allots each collegiate program annually. - Baton Rouge Advocate
