SEPT 28 SUN BELT OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Daetrich Harrington, App State,...Taking over primary ball-carrying duties with several teammates inactive, Daetrich Harrington made the most of his opportunity with career highs in rushing yards (211), attempts (32), touchdowns (4) and longest rush (40) to lead App State to a 52-21 win against Campbell. He's the first Sun Belt player this year with a 200-yard game and the first with a four-touchdown effort. His four rushing touchdowns were the most in a game by an App State player since legendary QB Armanti Edwards in 2009. Harrington's first two scores were at key first-half moments, tying the game at 7-7 in the first quarter and then giving the Mountaineers their first lead of the game at 17-13 in the second. - Sun Belt Football

Daetrich Harrington had career highs of 32 carries for 211 yards and four touchdowns in a 52-21 win over Campbell, the most by an Appalachian State player since 2009. App State was missing 18 players who were quarantining because of exposure to COVID-19 and had to lean on Harrington. He led a rushing attack that totaled 404 yards. Harrington joined Ulysses Bentley II of SMU as 200-yard rushers this season. - AP College Football

Daetrich Harrington rushed for career highs of 211 yards and four touchdowns and depleted Appalachian State beat Campbell 52-21 on Saturday. On Friday, Appalachian State (2-1) announced that three players had been confirmed with COVID-19 and, as a result, 18 other players were quarantining after contract tracing. Campbell (0-3), one of 17 FCS schools playing fall games, grabbed the lead for most of the first half before Harrington's second touchdown, a 2-yard run with 24 seconds left before the break, gave the Mountaineers a 17-13 lead. Those points came on the third of eight straight scoring drives. Harrington, a junior, already had 107 yards rushing by halftime with two scores. His four TDs were the most for the Mountaineers since Armanti Edwards had four against Furman in 2009. Nate Noel finished with 131 yards and a touchdown in his collegiate debut. The Mountaineers rushed for 404 of their 535 yards offense. - AP College Football

Daetrich Harrington had reason to be happy. The whole Appalachian State running backs group did. A combination of Harrington, Marcus Williams Jr. and Cam Peoples ran for 278 total rushing yards and four touchdowns on Saturday in a 35-20 victory against Charlotte. Harrington accounted for two of those scores, both in the fourth quarter to put the game away. And he grinned when talking about what that trio could accomplish together this season, running behind an offensive line featuring four returning starters. "We all got a chip on our shoulder," Harrington said. "They think since Darrynton (Evans)'s gone, we have nobody. We feel disrespected. So we're going to come out and show, prove to the whole Sun Belt and the whole world that we're a three-headed monster."

Since Evans departed for the NFL, App State coach Shawn Clark described a platoon-style system in the offensive backfield. The thinking was simple: the Mountaineers have three quality running backs, use them. And that's exactly what the team did against the 49ers. Williams played the first offensive series, followed by Harrington and Peoples on the following drives, respectively. Clark said it was an order pecked by seniority - Williams is a senior, Harrington a junior and Peoples is a sophomore. Harrington had 15 carries, Williams 14 and Peoples 13. - Winston-Salem Journal

Thomas Hennigan caught a 51-yard touchdown pass, Daetrich Harrington added two fourth-quarter scoring runs and Appalachian State beat Charlotte 35-20 in both teams' season opener on a rainy Saturday. The teams exchanged big plays in the final two minutes of the third quarter. Hennigan scored down the right side after a defender slipped on the wet field. Aaron McAllister returned the ensuing kickoff a school-record 97 yards, breaking a tackle on the left sideline to get Charlotte within a point, 21-20. Harrington went up the middle for a 4-yard score to extend the Mountaineers' lead to 28-20 early in the fourth quarter.

After a Charlotte fumble recovery, the Mountaineers held the 49ers to no yards at the Appalachian State 20 and Harrington added a 15-yard score with 1:15 remaining. Herrington had 120 yards receiving. Marcus Williams Jr. ran for 117 yards and a score and Camerun Peoples added 102 yards and another touchdown. The Mountaineers rushed for 308 yards. Zac Thomas aded 204 yards passing with a TD and an interception. Appalachian State has won four straight Sun Belt Conference titles and finished 19th in last season's Associated Press Top 25 poll after a 13-1 season. Due to state COVID-19 restrictions, the school allowed only 50 fans to attend the game, all parents of Mountaineers seniors, and tailgating was not permitted. - Appalachian State/AP College Football
