NOV 7 SWAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Grambling State's Maurice Washington had a breakthrough game for Grambling State in a 36-10 homecoming win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff this past weekend. He rushed a total of 10 times for 201 yards. Washington scored on runs of 75 yards and 56 yards. In addition, he averaged 20.1 yards per rushing attempt. - SWAC Football

Maurice Washington rushed for a career-high 201 yards on a scant 10 carries with two touchdowns and Grambling walloped Arkansas-Pine Bluff 36-10 on Saturday. Grambling (3-6, 2-4 Southwestern Athletic Conference), which beat Alcorn State 35-6 last week, n ow has won back-to-back games for the first time since 2019. Emerging from halftime with a 7-0 lead, Washington broke a tackle in the secondary on the first play from scrimmage and sprinted 75 yards down the right sideline for a two-touchdown lead. Follo wing a Golden Lions (2-7, 0-6) field goal, Washington escaped again - this time running for a 60-yard score. Maurice Washington led a committee of running backs with 69 yards and a touchdown and Grambling beat Alcorn State 35-6 on Saturday. Washington, Floyd Chalk IV and Chance Williams were part of a ground attack in which each reached the end zone. Quarterbac k Julian Calvez also ran one in. Defensively, Myron Stewart's 68-yard, pick-6 of Aaron Allen gave the Tigers a 21-0 lead en route to a 28-point halftime advantage. Tre Lawrence threw a 4-yard score to Tavarious Griffin with 19 seconds left in the third f or Alcorn State's lone score. The win ended a five-game losing streak for Grambling (2-6, 1-4 Southwestern Athletic Conference). The skid was the Tigers' longest losing streak since dropping eight straight in their 1-11 campaign in 2013. Quaterius Hawkins threw three touchdown passes, Maurice Washington ran for two scores and Grambling defeated Northwestern State 47-21 on Saturday night. Northwestern State grabbed a 7-0 lead on Miles Fallin's 13-yard scoring toss to Zach Patterson midway through the first quarter. Washington answered with touchdown runs of 61 and 25 yards and Grambling (1-1) never trailed again. Chance Williams scored on a 1-yard run early in the second quarter to put the Tigers up 21-7. Hawkins followed with scoring st rikes of 83 yards to Lyndon Rush, 20 yards to Claude Coleman and 71 yards to JR Waters to give Grambling a 41-7 lead at the half. Hawkins completed 13 of 23 passes for 293 yards. Washington finished with 95 yards on only five carries. Fallin completed 26 of 42 passes for 268 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions for Northwestern State (0-2). He also led the Demons with 60 yards on 14 rushes. - AP College Football

Lincoln police are looking for former Nebraska football player Maurice Washington after he was reported missing late last week. LPD officer Erin Spilker said an out-of-state family member reported Washington, 20, missing Friday. LPD did not release any o ther details on Washington's status. Washington was dismissed from the Nebraska football team in January. He played two seasons with the Huskers and was suspended multiple times. He pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor revenge porn charge in California in March after he allegedly sent a sexually explicit video to a girl who appeared in the video and was underage at the time it was made. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and two years probation. Washington played in just five games in 2019 and left the team after an October loss to Minnesota and didn't return before his dismissal from the program. - Lincoln Journal Star

A former San Jose football standout who played running back at the University of Nebraska pleaded no contest to a charge that he texted a sex video of a former girlfriend to her in an act of retaliation. Maurice Washington III, a former South Bay footbal l standout who played at the University of Nebraska, leaves the Hall of Justice in San Jose on April 10, 2019, after being arraigned on "revenge porn" charges stemming from allegations he texted an underage sex video of a former girlfriend after she reje cted his online advances a year earlier. Maurice Washington III, 20, pleaded Thursday to a misdemeanor count of distributing a private sexual video to cause emotional distress, a violation of what is commonly known as California's "revenge porn" law. In January, he was released by Nebraska football program, though by that point his participation with the team was on and off, owing in large part to the criminal case. - Oakland Tribune

Nebraska running back Maurice Washington, who faces pornography charges in California stemming from an incident when he was in high school, was suspended for the first half against South Alabama on Saturday and any further disciplinary action will be det ermined by how his court case plays out. Washington, the Cornhuskers' second-leading returning rusher, carried six times for 39 yards and caught one pass for 13 in the second half of the 35-21 victory. His status was unknown to the public heading into th e game. Coach Scott Frost said afterward that university administration and the coaching staff made a joint decision late Thursday or early Friday to suspend Washington for the first half.Washington also was disciplined internally and missed the s pring game in April. "We won't consider additional discipline for him until the matter is adjudicated," Frost said. Dedrick Mills started at running back and rushed 15 times for 44 yards and two touchdowns. Washington, a sophomore, faces a felony count o f possessing a video or photograph of a person under 18 who is engaging in or simulating sexual conduct and a misdemeanor count of distributing that video without consent, leading to the person suffering emotional distress.
