Along with announcing the start of spring football, McElwain added that CMU will be hosting its Pro Day the morning of March 23. The Chippewas are scheduled to practice that afternoon. Participants for Pro Day have not been announced. McElwain said that there will only be a few Chippewas participating as most of Pro Day-eligible players will be returning for a final season with an extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA. "As for a list of players, (Director of Player Personnel) Albert (Karschnia) puts that together," McElwain said. "Some of the scouts have asked, like usual, that there might be one or two of the guys from the (Division II) schools around that they want to get a look at. The fate of one Central Michigan football player for the first half of the upcoming season has been decided. And not in a positive way for the player or the program. In early October, Central Michigan football confirmed that David Moore had been suspende d for one full year (365 days) by the NCAA. According to the school, the starting quarterback was suspended by The Association for testing positive for a banned substance. The substance was subsequently confirmed to be an unspecified over-the-counter nut ritional supplement.In announcing the suspension, CMU confirmed that the university would be appealing the NCAA-mandated suspension. Earlier this month, it was reported that the appeal would take place at some point this month. Saturday, the schoo l's student newspaper, Central Michigan Life, reported that the appeal has been denied. The paper cited a source with direct knowledge of the situation as the basis for its report. Thus far, the Central Michigan football program has not confirmed the dev elopment. With the appeal denied, Moore's suspension will run through Oct. 7 of this year. - Central Michigan Life

David Moore threw two scoring passes, Jonathan Ward caught a touchdown pass and ran for two scores and Central Michigan set season highs in total yards and rushing yards in beating Eastern Michigan 42-16 in Saturday's Mid-American Conference matchup. The Chippewas (3-3, 2-1) had 589 total yards and 310 rushing yards, led by Ward's 132 yards on 12 carries, and held the Eagles to 285 yards, including 77 rushing. Ward capped Central Michigan's opening drive with a 3-yard TD run and scored on a career-long 86-yard run in the third quarter.Alonzo McCoy picked off a pass from Mike Glass III in the end zone and the Chippewas scored on Moore's 80-yard pass to Kalil Pimpleton on the next play. Moore, 15 of 24 for 279 yards, made it 21-3 on his 64-yard pa ss to Ward. Kobe Lewis scored on a 28-yard run in the third quarter and Tommy Lazzaro added a 6-yard scoring run in the fourth. Central Michigan's Ryan Tice missed field goals of 50 and 44 yards before the Eagles (3-2, 0-1) got on the board with Chad Ryl and's 42-yard first-quarter field goal. David Moore threw for 316 yards and a pair of touchdowns in his Central Michigan debut to lead the Chippewas to a 45-24 victory over Akron on Saturday in a Mid-Athletic Conference opener. Moore, a junior who spent the 2016-17 seasons at Memphis where he played in five games, was 20 of 31 for 316 yards. He tossed a 2-yard score to Tony Polijan and a 35-yarder to Kalil Pimpleton late in the second half to make it 27-3. Pimpleton finished with seven catches for 116 yards. Kobe Lewis had 27 carries for 146 yards and three touchdowns, two in the fourth quarter for Central Michigan.Kato Nelson threw for 243 yards for Akron, completing 25 of 41 attempts with three touchdowns and an interception. Nelson carried 16 times for 26 yards and was the leading rusher for the Zips, who managed just 40 total yards on the ground. Nate Stewart had five catches for 78 yards and a touchdown. It was Central Michigan's (2-1, 1-0) first conference opening win since beating Northern Illinois 29-19 in 2015.
