It wasn't that Sam Tecklenburg ever stopped loving football, but shortly after the end of the 2019 season, he decided he'd had enough. At the time, he said it was the toughest decision of his life, but that he would be hanging up the pads for good. "I wa s just feeling as burnt out as I ever had," Tecklenburg, the former Baylor OL, told The News on Sunday. "I had given everything I had to that last year ... at the time just wasn't that interested, once that was over." That announcement came in January, b ut as the months waned on, Tecklenburg started to get the itch to play again. A return was never formalized, though. It wasn't until his ex-head coach Matt Rhule, now the head coach of the Panthers, reached out on Saturday that the plan even went into mo tion.As of Sunday afternoon, he was no longer retired. He was preparing to sign an NFL contract with the Carolina Panthers. His change in mindset - the idea of playing football again - was gradual. But the opportunity to actually sign forced Teckl enburg to speed up that decision process. Rhule, who also drafted former Baylor DL Bravvion Roy, called Tecklenburg after the draft ended and offered Tecklenburg a contract. - Dallas Morning News
