  Mitch Davidson threw for 242 yards and a career-high three touchdowns, Jaleel McLaughlin rushed for 119 yards and two scores, and Youngstown State scored 28 unanswered points in the second quarter to beat South Dakota 45-24 on Saturday for its third straight conference victory. Davidson led four touchdown drives in the second quarter, thanks to two takeaways by the defense, for a 38-10 lead at the break. He started the scoring run with a 42-yard pass to Bryce Oliver. The duo also combined on a 19-yard touchdown for a 45-17 lead in the third quarter. Davidson also had a touchdown run for Youngstown State (5-3, 3-2 Missouri Valley Conference). Oliver had seven grabs for 122 yards and two scores. Aidan Bouman was 17 of 30 for 254 yards and one touchdown for South Dakota (2-6, 1-4).   OCT 24 MISSOURI VALLEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE: TB Jaleel McLaughlin, Youngstown State - McLaughlin rushed for 207 yards on 32 carries and a touchdown as the Penguins rallied to beat Western Illinois, 28-27, on Saturday in Macomb. It was the second time in as many games that McLaughlin rushed for more than 200 yards leading the Penguins to consecutive victories. On the final drive of the game, he had the final 15 yards on carries of seven and eight yards to help set up the Guins' game-winning field goal. He scored on a 14-yard run just before halftime and caught a pass for 35 yards. He tied the school record for career 200-yard rushing games with four. - Missouri Valley Football

  OCT 24 MISSOURI VALLEY SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: PK Colt McFadden, Youngstown State, 6-0, 194, Sr., Poland, Ohio (Poland/Kent State),...McFadden connected on a 42-yard field goal as time expired to help the Penguins rally for a 28-27 win at Western Illinois on Saturday. With the wind at his back, McFadden came on four seconds remaining to convert a 42-yard try as YSU overcame a 10-point deficit in the final three minutes to earn the win. McFadden kicked a 25-yard field goal earlier in the contest. He has made nine of his last 10 attempts all of which have come in MVFC play. - Missouri Valley Football

  OCT 17 MISSOURI VALLEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE: TB Jaleel McLaughlin, Youngstown State - McLaughlin rushed for 200 yards on 32 carries and two touchdowns as the Penguins beat Indiana State in a wild 48-42 affair on Saturday at Stambaugh Stadium. In the second quarter he scored on a 68-yard touchdown run before adding a 10-yard score in the third quarter. It was the third 200-yard game of his YSU career while the 32 carries we the most since he arrived at YSU in the spring of 2021.   OCT 17 MISSOURI VALLEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE: WR Latrell Fordham, Youngstown State - Fordham became the first Penguin since 2015 to return a kickoff for a touchdown as the Penguins beat Indiana State in a wild 48-42 contest on Saturday at Stambaugh Stadium. Fordham set a school record with a 98-yard return for a touchdown late in the first quarter.   OCT 17 MISSOURI VALLEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE: DE James Jackson, Youngstown State - Jackson recorded a career-high three sacks as the Penguins defeated Indiana State 48-42 in a key Missouri Valley Football Conference victory on Saturday at Stambaugh Stadium. Jackson, a sixth-year senior, had one sack on the season before Saturday's game. All three sacks came in the second half. His final sack came on ISU's last attempt for a game-winning score.   Jaleel McLaughlin ran for 200 yards on 32 carries and scored twice and Youngstown State kept Indiana State at bay with a 48-42 win on Saturday to end the Penguins' three-game skid. It was third time in McLaughlin's career at Youngstown State he's reached 200-yards on the ground and became just the fourth player in school history to have reached 200 yards three times. James Jackson collected his third sack of the day putting Indiana State quarterback Cade Chambers to the turf to force fourth-and-11 at the Sycamores' 24-yard line with 1:42 left. Chambers then threw incomplete to Dante Hendrix, the Penguins took over on downs and killed the clock.

McLaughlin's 68-yard sprint through the middle of the line with 10:17 before halftime made it 28-21 for the Penguins (3-3, 1-2 Missouri Valley Football Conference) and they maintained the lead the rest of the game. Bryce Oliver had seven catches for 143 yards as Mitch Davidson was 14 of 25 for 223 yards. Chambers completed 15 of 29 passes for three touchdowns and 311 yards for Indiana State (1-5, 0-3), which has lost five straight. Both of Johnson's interceptions set up Penguins touchdowns. His first interception came in second quarter at the Duquesne 31-yard line. Four plays later the Penguins took the lead at 14-7 and never trailed again. His second interception came with YSU ahead 17-14 in the fourth quarter.   Jaleel McLaughlin scored three times and ran for 203 yards on 20 carries and Youngstown State held control most of the way in a 31-14 win against Duquesne in the season opener for the Penguins on Saturday. It was Penguins 38th straight home win against teams from Pennsylvania. McLaughlin entered the contest with 6,578 yards and 65 career touchdowns. He is one of 18 running backs in NCAA history to rush for more than 6,500 yards.

The Dukes (0-2) posted their only lead when Joe Mischler threw a 45-yard touchdown to Abdul Janneh on a five-play, 75- yard drive to start the game. Youngstown State responded with a 12-play, 75-yard scoring drive that ended when McLaughlin ran it in from the 3. McLaughlin's 13-yard run with 6:43 before halftime gave the Penguins the lead for good. His 54-yard dash with 4:48 sealed it. Mischler had two scores to Janneh - the other a 16- yarder in the third quarter - but Youngstown State's defense intercepted Mischler three times.
