For the second time this offseason, the Western Michigan football team bolstered its defensive backfield with a former Pittsburgh Panther. Graduate transfer Bricen Garner announced Tuesday his intention to join the Broncos for the 2020 football season, reuniting him with former Panther teammate Therran Coleman, a cornerback who signed with WMU as a grad transfer in January. "I'm thankful for the opportunity to have played, studied and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh," Garner wrote in a Twitter post. "The city will forever hold a special place in my heart. With that being said, I will play my last year of college eligibility at Western Michigan University."

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Pittsburgh native will have immediate eligibility in Kalamazoo, after redshirting his freshman year with the Panthers and seeing action in each of the past three seasons. Garner started six games at free safety as a redshirt freshman in 2017, tallying 30 tackles, two pass break-ups and an interception in the end zone that sealed Pitt's 28-21 overtime win over Youngstown State. He also collected a career-best six tackles in a 33-14 loss to No. 4 Penn State that year. - Kalamazoo Gazette
