  WEEK 7 MAC FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Broc Lowry, Western Michigan, QB, RS Sophomore, Canfield, Ohio/Canfield,...Broc Lowry had a career day in WMU's 42-0 win over Ball State. He completed a career-high 23 passes for a career-high 241 yards and two touchdowns. He then rushed for 13 times for a career-high 108 yards and one touchdown. Lowry became the first Broncos quarterback to surpass 100 yards rushing in a game since Sept. 22, 1973 (Paul Jorgensen vs. NIU). His first touchdown pass gave the Broncos a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter. The second one came midway through the third quarter, pushing the lead to 28-0. His last action of the game came early in the fourth quarter when he ran it into the endzone from 37 yards to make it 35-0. - MAC Football

  WEEK 7 MAC FOOTBALL CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Nadame Tucker, Western Michigan, DE, Senior, New York, N.Y./Teaneck,...Tucker wreaked havoc on the Ball State offense as the Bronco defense held the Cardinals scoreless and to just 88 total yards of offense in Saturday's 42-0 win. He had a career-high seven tackles with a career-high 3.5 sacks. His 3.5 sacks resulted in a net loss of 25 yards for the Cardinals. Tucker's sack total pushed him to 8.5 on the season, now tied for first in the nation and top of the MAC. He now has 12.5 tackles for loss on the season, second-most in the nation. - MAC Football

  Broc Lowry threw two touchdown passes, ran for another score, and accounted for 349 yards of offense to lead Western Michigan to a 42-0 rout of Ball State on Saturday for its fourth straight win. Lowry was 23-of-27 passing for 241 yards with two touchdown passes. He added 108 yards on the ground on 13 carries that included a 37-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter. He is the first quarterback at WMU to rush for more than 100 yards since Paul Jorgensen in 1973.

Lowry connected with Michael Brescia and Aveion Chenault for scores. Brady Jones added a late touchdown pass to Cade Conley for Western Michigan (4-3, 3-0 Mid-American Conference). Ofa Mataele and Jalen Buckley also had touchdown runs for the Broncos. Western Michigan generated 461 yards of offense while holding Ball State to just 88 yards and 1 of 13 on third-down conversions. Kiael Kelly completed 13 of 22 passes for 68 yards for Ball State (2-4, 1-1). (Neuqua Valley),...Palmer Domschke went 3-for-3 on field goals and 5-for-5 on extra points in WMU's 47-14 win over FCS Top-10 opponent Rhode Island. His first field goal was from 29 yards out to cut URI's lead to 7-3 at 6:48 in the first quarter. He then connected from 41 and 49 yards late in the third quarter to push the lead to 41-7 and 44-7. Palmer Domschke kicked a 29-yard field goal to cap a 15-play, 68-yard drive that took six minutes, 58 seconds off the clock and the Broncos went 72 yards in 13 plays to take a 10-7 lead when Lowery scored on a 4-yard run with 13:35 left in the second quarter.

Lowery threw a 10-yard TD pass to Aveion Chenault and Devin Miles scored on a 1-yard run for Western Michigan (2-3) and Domschke made field goals of 41 and 49 yards about three minutes apart to make it 44-7 with 2:54 left in the third quarter. Devin Farrell hit Marquis Buchanan for a 56-yard gain on the second play from scrimmage and a pass interference penalty made it first-and-goal before Antwain Littleton Jr. ran for a 2-yard TD to open the scoring just over a minute into the game.   Broc Lowry scored on a 2-yard run in the final minute of play and added the two-point conversion, lifting Western Michigan to a dramatic 14-13 victory over Toledo in a Mid-American Conference opener on Saturday. Lowry scored Western Michigan's only other points as his 6-yard run late in the third quarter made the score 13-6. Neither team threatened to score in the fourth quarter until the Broncos drove 67 yards on their next-to-last possession. The drive ended at the Toledo 16-yard line when Lowry threw incomplete on fourth-and-7 with about two minutes remaining. Western Michigan then forced a three-and-out and the Broncos took possession near midfield. Lowry's 43-yard pass to Tailique Williams on fourth-and-10 was the key play to set up the winning touchdown.

The Rockets gained 3 yards on their final possession. Lowry completed 16 of 33 passes for 201 yards for Western Michigan (1-3), with 112 yards going to Williams on four completions. The game was scoreless until Toledo's James Roe recovered a fumbled punt at the Western Michigan 12-yard line late in the second quarter. The Rockets managed 1 yard before Dylan Cunanan kicked a 30-yard field goal with 22 seconds left in the half. Chip Trayanum had a 63-yard touchdown run for Toledo in the first minute of the third quarter and Cunanan added a 27-yard field goal for a 13-0 lead. Western Michigan got on the board with Lowry's first touchdown, in the final minute of the quarter.   WEEK 2 MAC FOOTBALL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Palmer Domschke, Western Michigan, K, R-Jr., Bollingbrook, Ill. (Neaqua Valley),...Domschke was instrumental in helping the Broncos take North Texas to overtime. He tied his career high with three field goals and also had three extra points, for 12 of WMU's 30 points on the day. All three of his field goals came from at least 40 yards out, hitting from 40, 43 and 48. His first FG, a 40-yarder, of the day gave the Broncos a 17-7 lead late in the second quarter. He then nailed a 43-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter to put the Broncos up 27-17. His final field goal came in WMU's possession in overtime, connecting from 48 to give the Broncos a 30-27 lead. - MAC Football

  2023 MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR: Jalen Buckley, RB, Western Michigan,...Buckley was one of just two freshmen in the nation to reach 1,000 yards rushing, with the Aurora, Ill., native finishing with 1,003. Buckley averaged 5.3 yards per carry and also finished with 10 touchdowns on the ground. He is the 10th Bronco to win the MAC Freshman of the Year award, tops in the conference. Eight of his 10 touchdowns came in MAC play, while rushing for 692 yards in the eight games. He finished the season with four 100-yard rushing games, including a career-high 196 against Toledo.   Linebacker Donald Willis, who started five games for the Gophers football team in 2022, announced Tuesday night on Twitter that he's entering his name into the transfer portal. Willis, 6-2 and 220 pounds, played in 37 games in his Gophers career, collecting 46 tackles and breaking up two passes. He made 19 tackles in 2022, including four in the Pinstripe Bowl win over Syracuse, and was considered to be in the mix to receive more playing time after the transfer of Braelen Oliver to Georgia Tech.   Christian Leary, a wide receiver who spent the past two seasons at Alabama, announced Sunday that he is transferring to Georgia Tech. It is a change of direction for Leary, who entered the NCAA transfer portal in December and announced Dec. 13 that he was transferring to Central Florida. Leary made the announcement Sunday on Instagram. He did not reveal the reason for the switch.

Instead of becoming the third former Alabama player to join Gus Malzahn at UCF, Leary will instead join a Georgia Tech program led by former Tide offensive line coach Brent Key. Leary, who is from Orlando, was a four-star recruit in Alabama's 2021 class ranked No. 75 nationally in 247 Sports' rankings. He switched to running back during his freshman season when injuries struck that position before returning to wide receiver in 2022. He caught one pass for 6 yards this season while appearing mostly on special teams. - Birmingham News

  Tate Hallock will remain in Michigan to continue his college football career. The former Michigan State redshirt junior safety announced his transfer commitment to Western Michigan via Twitter on Monday. He entered the portal last week after graduating in December and has two seasons of eligibility remaining. Hallock, 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, had five tackles and a forced fumble in 18 career games over four seasons with the Spartans while playing primarily on special teams. - Kalamazoo Gazette
