  OCT 14 MISSOURI VALLEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE: RB Adam Cofield, North Dakota State,...Cofield had his first career 100-yard rushing game for North Dakota State in the 46-14 win over 10th-ranked Northern Iowa. Cofield carried 15 times for 104 yards and two scores on runs of 1 and 37 yards. He averaged 6.9 yards per carry and added two receptions totaling 15 yards. He converted eight first downs, four of those on third-down plays and another on a fourth-down carry. - Missouri Valley Football

  Ty Storey had two quarterback sneaks for touchdowns and Western Kentucky controlled Army for a 17-8 victory on Saturday night. The Black Knights (3-3) were close to being shut out until Kelvin Hopkins Jr.'s 8-yard touchdown pass to Malik Hancock with 1:41 left. The Hilltoppers (4-2) recovered the onside kick and improved to 3-0 all-time against Army. Western Kentucky held Army to a season-low 137 yards rushing and held the Black Knights to 3 of 11 on third-down attempts. Until the Black Knights' late touchdown, the Hilltoppers hadn't allowed a touchdown in nine straight quarters.

Storey completed 21 of 30 passes for 140 yards and finished with 62 yards rushing. Gaej Walker added 132 rushing yards for Western Kentucky. The Hilltoppers found the end zone on their opening drive on a keeper by Storey and freshman kicker Cory Munson made a 22-yard field goal to extend Western Kentucky's lead to 10-0 midway through the third quarter. Army's best drive featured its first completion on a 31-yard connection from Hopkins to Artice Hobbs, but three plays inside the WKU 10 and a missed field goal from David Cooper kept the Black Knights scoreless until the late touchdown. - Western Kentucky/AP College Football

  Gaej Walker ran 25 times for 114 yards and a touchdown to help Western Kentucky beat Old Dominion 20-3 on Saturday night. Walker's 1-yard TD run gave the Hilltoppers (3-2, 3-0 Conference USA) the lead for good at 10-3 late in the second quarter. Cory Munson kicked his second field goal to extend the lead in the third quarter and Ty Storey's 12-yard pass to Joshua Simon capped the scoring with 7:58 left in the game. Storey finished 21 of 28 for 193 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Jahcour Pearson caught seven passes for 67 yards. DeAngelo Malone had three sacks for the Hilltoppers, which held the Monarchs (1-4, 0-1) to 160 yards of total offense.   SEPT 30/WEEK 5 SOUTHLAND OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Houston Baptist's Bailey Zappe, Jr., Quarterback, Victoria, Texas,...Saturday's win over Texas Southern marked another electric performance for the FCS passing touchdowns leader (21), setting program records for completions (43), attempts (59) and passing touchdowns (7). The quarterback responsible for all six 300-yard passing performances in school history, Zappe threw touchdowns to four different receivers against the Tigers as the Huskies compiled a school-record 749 yards of total offense.   SEPT 30/WEEK 5 CONFERENCE USA SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: WKU freshman K Cory Munson connected on field goals of 35 and 28 yards in the first half of WKU's 20-13 victory vs. defending Conference USA champion UAB. He went 2-for-2 in field goal attempts and 2-for-2 in extra point tries for 8 points scored, the most of any C-USA kicker in Week 5. Munson also averaged 64.2 yards per kickoff and had two of his five kickoffs go into the end zone for touchbacks. In two conference games, Warner Robins, Georgia, native is 4-for-4 in field goal attempts and for the season he is 11-for-11 in extra point tries. Munson, who won the award for the second time this season, is currently only one of 12 true freshmen starting kickers on FBS teams. - C-USA Football

  Bailey Zappe threw a school-record seven touchdown passes and Houston Baptist steamrolled Texas Southern 68-31 on Saturday night. Zappe completed 30 of 45 passes for 342 yards and four touchdowns in the first half alone and finished 43-of-59 passing for 498 yards, 15 yards shy of his career high set earlier this season in a 53-52 road victory over South Dakota. Zappe leads all Division I quarterbacks with 19 TD passes this season. Houston Baptist has won three straight games for the first time since becoming a D-I school in 2014. Dreshawn Minnieweather started the scoring for the Huskies (4-1) with a 22-yard TD run to cap a nine-play, 94-yard game-opening drive. The Tigers took the opening kickoff and drove to the Houston Baptist 6-yard line before Ladarius Owens' fumble was recovered by Tra Fluellen.

The Huskies added Zappe's 15-yard TD toss to Jaylon Johnson and Gino Garcia's 30-yard field goal to lead 17-0 after one quarter. Zappe threw TD passes to Jerreth Sterns and Minnieweather to stretch Houston Baptist's lead to 30-0 in the second quarter. Tylor Cook got Texas Southern on the scoreboard with an 8-yard TD run, but Zappe added a 43-yard scoring strike to Ben Ratzlaff for a 37-7 lead. De'Andre Johnson threw two TD passes in the final 5:16 to pull the Tigers within 37-21 at halftime, but they would get no closer. Minnieweather finished with 125 yards and two TDs on 14 carries for the Huskies. Ratzlaff hauled in eight passes for 131 yards and two TDs, while Sterns had 12 catches for 104 yards and two scores. Johnson completed 25 of 37 passes for 420 yards and two TDs for Texas Southern.   Ty Storey threw two touchdown passes, including a 7-yarder to Jahcour Pearson early in the fourth quarter, and Western Kentucky picked off four passes and held on for a 20-13 victory over Alabama-Birmingham on Saturday. After playing to a 3-3 tie in the first quarter, UAB took a 10-3 lead on Spencer Brown's 2-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter to end a 15-play, 80-yard drive. Storey pulled the Hilltoppers (2-2, 2-0 Conference USA) even when he capped an eight-play, 68-yard drive with an 8-yard TD toss to Joshua Simon with 7:03 left in the quarter. Western Kentucky grabbed a 13-10 lead at halftime after Jeremy Darvin picked off a Tyler Johnston III pass that led to Cory Munson's 28-yard field goal.

The Blazers (3-1, 0-1) tied the game at 13 on their first possession of the third quarter when Nick Vogel booted a 38-yard field goal. The two teams traded punts before Storey put together the game-winning drive, completing 5 of 6 passes and culminating with his TD toss to Pearson. UAB's last chance ended when DeAngelo Malone sacked Johnson on fourth-and-19 at the WKU 48-yard line. Johnston finished 18-of-31 passing for 181 yards and four interceptions, including two by WKU's Kyle Bailey. Storey passed for 189 yards and led the Hilltoppers with 26 yards on the ground.   Bailey Zappe threw for 257 yards and four scores as Houston Baptist opened Southland Conference play with its third straight win, a 48-21 victory over Northwestern State on Saturday night. With just two wins in 22 starts over the last two seasons, the Huskies (3-1) have now won three consecutive games for the first time in their six-year history. They were 4-7 in 2016 and opened this season with a 36-34 loss to UTEP. Ean Beek rushed for 131 yards with a score and Dreshawn Minnieweather totaled 112 yards rushing. Ben Ratzlaff caught five balls for 117 yards and two touchdowns. The Huskies intercepted three passes. Brennan Young had two and Patrick Wolfe grabbed the third. HBU sprinted to a 24-0 lead at the break and increased that to 31-0 early in the third before Northwestern State got on the board. Zappe hit Coleman Robinson on a 2-yard TD pass with 9:57 remaining in the game to close out the scoring. Overall, Munson went 2-for-2 in field goal attempts and 2-for-2 in extra point tries for eight points scored, had 3-of-4 kickoffs go into the end zone for touchbacks and perfectly executed a surprise onside kick in the first half to get the ball back to the Hilltoppers.   2019 PRESEASON RIMINGTON TROPHY CANDIDATE: Seth Joest, WKU,...WKU Football junior center Seth Joest has been named to the 2019 Rimington Trophy Award Watch List, it was announced on Friday. The Versailles native started all 12 games and played all 898 offensive snaps as a sophomore in 2018. The Versailles native is 1-of-80 student-athletes to be listed, including 1-of-11 from Conference USA.

The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding center in NCAA Division I College Football. Since its inception, the award - celebrating its 20th anniversary - has raised over $4.2 million for the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis. - Western Kentucky Football
