  Quarterback Maverick McIvor came off the bench to lead three second-half touchdown drives and Western Kentucky rallied to beat Southern Mississippi 27-16 on Tuesday night to win the New Orleans Bowl at Caesars Superdome. Head coach Tyson Helton has led the Hilltoppers (9-4) to a bowl game in seven straight seasons, winning five of them. McIvor completed 12 of 19 passes for 199 yards with one interception and rushed for a season-high 48 yards and a score on eight carries. Matthew Henry had seven receptions for 126 yards. Jack Cannon kicked two field goals. Braylon Braxton threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Tychaun Chapman in the first quarter and Creighton Wilbanks kicked two field goals in the second to help the Golden Eagles (7-6) take a 13-6 lead into halftime. Southern Miss piled up 265 yards in the first half, while holding Western Kentucky to 84. The Hilltoppers outgained the Golden Eagles 338-112 after halftime.

Freshman quarterback Rodney Tisdale Jr. completed 9 of 20 passes for 65 yards with an interception for Western Kentucky before leaving right before halftime after taking a hard hit. McIvor, who hadn't played since starting the first seven games, led the second-half charge. McIvor capped an eight-play drive with an 11-yard touchdown run to tie it 13-all midway through the third quarter before Wilbanks kicked a 41-yard field goal to put Southern Miss up 16-13 heading to the fourth. McIvor had a 23-yard run to the Golden Eagles' 1 and George Hart III plunged into the end zone two plays later for a 20-16 lead 7:48 remaining. McIvor completed a 14-yard pass to Matthew Henry on third-and-11 and Marvis Parrish raced 54 yards for a score on the next play to set the final margin with 3:38 left. The Hilltoppers were successful on all eight third-down opportunities in the second half after going 1 for 9 in the first.   2025 CUSA FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Rodney Tisdale Jr., WKU,...Tisdale Jr. assumed the starting quarterback role for the last five games of the regular season and provided a spark to the offense, which averaged 29.8 points during that stretch against CUSA competition in four games and against LSU in the other. He threw for 1,367 yards and nine touchdowns on 67.7% (130-192) passing during the season, with the majority of that coming over the course of the last five games. Tisdale finished as WKU's fourth-leading rusher with 105 yards and two scores on 47 attempts.   2025 CUSA SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Cole Maynard, WKU,...Maynard led the nation in punting average during the regular season at 48.7 yards per punt over 51 punting attempts. He has twice been named to the Ray's 8 List, honoring the top punting performances of the week. Maynard has also been recognized with the top special teams performance of the week in the league twice as CUSA's Special Teams Player of the Week. Over his 51 punts this season, Maynard had sent 25 50-plus yards - with a long of 71 yards - and has 12 downed inside the 20-yard line, with 15 fair catches and only five touchbacks. His 48.7 yards per punt would be a new WKU record for single-season punting average, topping the previous mark of 45.9 yards per punt by John Haggerty during the 2019 season. - Conference USA Football

  WEEK 12 CONFERENCE USA OFFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK: Marshall Jackson, WKU - R-Sr. - LT - Brandenburg, Ky.,...Jackson played a big role in helping his team rack up 642 yards in the 42-26 Senior Day win over Middle Tennessee - the seventh straight in the 100 Miles of Hate rivalry. He posted the highest pass blocking grade (77.0) among WKU's offensive linemen with no sacks allowed over 79 snaps at left tackle. The Hilltoppers (8-2, 6-1 CUSA) tallied 371 yards and three touchdowns through the air. The fifth-year senior also had the highest run blocking grade among WKU's starting offensive linemen. Tisdale threw for 227 yards and a touchdown on 21-34 passing and rushed for a game-high 73 yards on 12 attempts. Tisdale completed passes to nine different receivers as the Hilltoppers put up 340 yards in the win.   Rodney Tisdale Jr. threw for 371 yards and three touchdown passes to lead Western Kentucky to a 42-26 victory over Middle Tennessee on Saturday night. Tisdale was 29-of-41 passing and he connected with Matthew Henry seven times for 135 yards that included a 22-yard touchdown. Noah Meyers had a pair of short-yardage touchdown catches for Western Kentucky (8-2, 6-1 Conference USA), which has won six of its last seven games. Marvis Parrish added 102 yards rushing for the Hilltoppers. La'Vell Wright had touchdown runs from 3 and 8 yards and finished with 84 yards on the ground.   Rodney Tisdale Jr. threw four touchdown passes to lead Western Kentucky to a 35-16 victory over New Mexico State on Saturday. Tisdale completed 30 of 38 passes for 301 yards. He connected twice with Matthew Henry for scores and threw a touchdown pass each to Moussa Barry and Jackson West. Henry and K.D. Hutchinson made seven catches apiece and combined for 164 yards receiving for Western Kentucky (7-2, 5-1 Conference USA), which has won five of its last six games. He finished with 230 yards and a touchdown on 23-31-0 passing and added 36 yards on six rushing attempts. It marked his highest rushing total since he ran for 45 yards on six carries against Stephen F. Austin on Oct. 21, 2023. With the Tops holding a 20-17 lead over the Blue Hens in the third quarter, McIvor led an 80-yard drive to put his team ahead by 10 heading into the final frame. It was the third time this season the Hilltoppers have thrown for over 300 yards in a game, and it was the second-highest rushing yardage in a game this season. Jackson, who played 74 snaps at left tackle, posted a 65.8 run blocking grade - the highest among WKU offensive linemen in the win. The Hilltoppers put up 128 yards rushing in the second half, including 92 in the fourth quarter, to close out the win.   Nick Laughlin had an 81-yard touchdown reception, Sincere Baines rushed for 98 yards and a score, and Maine defeated North Carolina A&T 37-30 on Saturday. The Black Bears (1-4, 1-1 Coastal Athletic Association) had their highest scoring output so far this season, with 478 yards of total offense. It was the first meeting between Maine and NC A&T (1-4, 1-1). The Aggies were a founding member of the MEAC, and also played two seasons in the Big South before joining the CAA in 2023.

Carter Peevy threw for 298 yards on 20-for-27 passing with two touchdowns. Laughlin had three catches for 100 yards, including his long score in the second quarter, and added 38 rushing yards on nine attempts. Baines, a junior transfer from Division II UNC-Pembroke, had his third game with 90 or more rushing yards this season. He sits near the top of the CAA leaderboards in both total rushing yards and rushing yards per game. Kevin White completed 19 of 32 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns to pace the Aggies.
