  Syracuse freshman Landon Morris has entered the NCAA's transfer portal, he announced Monday morning on Twitter. Morris, a 6-foot-6, 230-pound tight end, didn't specify why he opted to seek a transfer from Syracuse, but he thanked the university, his coaches and teammates for supporting him. "It was an honor spending everyday here in 'Cuse with y'all, thank you for showing love and bringing me in as family from day one," Morris wrote. "I couldn't thank Syracuse University enough for helping me on the road to becoming the best version of myself everyday!" Morris' decision comes two weeks into the Orange's preseason training camp. Just a few minutes after his announcement, Morris posted a highlight video of himself performing one-on-one drills against Syracuse defensive backs. - The Post-Standard

  The roster is never finalized until the first game. South Carolina cornerback Karon Prunty is no longer with the team, having entered the NCAA transfer portal on Aug. 12. Prunty was practicing at first-team cornerback as recently as Aug. 10 (Aug. 11 was an off day) and had appeared at the Gamecocks' media day on Aug. 5. The transfer from Kansas, who didn't give up a touchdown all season as a freshman in 2020, was considered a coup after he picked the Gamecocks over Tennessee. A native of Portsmouth, Va., Prunty said he chose USC because of its proximity to his hometown. "It just felt like home, when I first came here," Prunty said then. "It's closer to home, like five hours away, so I just felt like this was a perfect fit for me." A reason for Prunty's departure on Aug. 12 was unknown, but one source said that it had nothing to do with on-field or off-field issues. It was solely Prunty's decision. - The Post and Courier

  Karon Prunty, sophomore cornerback, 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, Kansas (originally from Portsmouth, Virginia): "He's long, he's fast. The biggest thing is, making sure he knows what to do. It's always going to be a process of learning what to do, since he came in late summer, so he can be able to play fast." Prunty was the last of the three to arrive on campus. He started all nine of Kansas' games in 2020, was an All-Big 12 honorable mention cornerback and a 247Sports True Freshman All-American. - Rock Hill Herald

  Kansas defensive back Karon Prunty committed to SEC East rival South Carolina on Saturday. Prunty visited both schools in the weeks leading up to his decision and announced his decision on Twitter. He has four years of eligibility remaining with the potential for a redshirt. The Portsmouth, Virginia, product entered the transfer portal June 6. In his lone season at Kansas, he earned 247Sports Freshman All-American honors. Prunty was one of just two Jayhawks to start all nine games on defense, allowing just a 38.5% completion percentage when targeted, which ranked seventh nationally. He broke up 10 passes, which tied to lead all freshmen, forced a fumble and had one interception. - Knoxville News Sentinel

  Robby Ashford is no longer playing baseball for Oregon in 2021. The Ducks freshman outfielder and quarterback is spending the remainder of the year focused solely on football. "Robby's chosen to devote himself to football since spring ball started and he'll continue to do that," UO baseball coach Mark Wasikowski said. "I definitely think that I can see him back with our program in the future, like next year; I can see that for sure. But he's really kind of pushed everything in; he wants to win that second quarterback spot with the football program and those are his wishes so we honor that for sure, pulling for him."

Ashford hit .200 (7 for 35) with a .293 on-base percentage with six runs scored, two RBIs, five walks, 13 strikeouts and stole three bases on five attempts in 20 games with 10 starts this spring. He hadn't played for the Ducks since an April 6 midweek game against Portland, which coincided with Oregon football's second week of spring practice. Ashford was competing for the starting center field job to begin the season, but Anthony Hall has emerged as UO's every day center fielder and started 24 of the last 25 games. Ashford was 7 of 8 for 123 yards with a 44-yard touchdown and ran in the winning two-point conversion to cap Oregon's spring game. - The Oregonian

  While much of the country was focused on the third day of the NFL Draft on Saturday, the Boise State football team took some time to celebrate a local hero. Several Boise State players, including quarterback Hank Bachmeier, joined a car parade at Julia Davis Park put on by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to honor 2021 Idaho Child of the Year Jaleel Dodd. Dodd, 9, was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia last July, and COVID-19 made his treatment even more difficult, as only one parent was allowed to be with him during treatment and no other visitors were allowed.

He's a huge fan of the Broncos, and after they met on Saturday, Bachmeier is now Dodd's biggest fan. "It was just an honor to go out there and see him and how tough he is, and it just puts into perspective to be grateful for what you have," Bachmeier told reporters on Sunday. "He's just fighting and it was awesome to see a smile on his face." Bachmeier said he caught a ride to the park with fellow quarterback Cade Fennegan, and the duo presented Dodd with some Boise State gear, including a hat and poster. "I told him I was proud of him and to just keep working hard and fighting," said Bachmeier, adding that Boise State's Brooke Pahukoa played a large role in getting the Broncos involved.   Carlos "Boogie" Basham has become the next Wake Forest alumnus to join the NFL. The defensive end was picked by the Buffalo with the 29th pick (61st overall) in the second round of the draft on Friday night. Basham is the highest pick for the Deacons since 2018, when Jessie Bates was selected in the second round by the Cincinnati Bengals. Bates is now considered one of the best safeties in the league. Basham, a Roanoke, Va., native leaves Winston-Salem as one of the best pass rushers in school history. His 20.5 career sacks ranks fourth all-time for the program. Basham became a high-profile prospect after his junior season in 2019, where he registered 11 sacks. In 2020, Basham appeared in seven games. He registered five sacks and 28 total tackles for Wake Forest (4-5). - Winston Salem Journal

  A second Michigan football player has made public his plans to transfer. Luiji Vilain, an underutilized and often injured member of the Wolverines' defensive line rotation, has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal, a team spokesman confirmed to MLive on Tuesday. The spokesman, Dave Ablauf, says Vilain enters as a graduate student. That would allow the 6-foot-4, 253-pound Vilain to play immediately in 2021, with two years of eligibility left. Vilain has not commented on the move, but it allows coaches from other schools to openly recruit him. The Ottawa, Ontario, native has been on the Michigan football team since 2017. After taking a redshirt his freshman season, Vilain suffered a season-ending knee injury that left him sidelined in 2018 and limited in 2019, when he appeared in seven games at defensive end but only had seven tackles (one for a loss) and sack to show for it. - Ann Arbor News

  2020 ALL-ACC FOOTBALL THIRD TEAM (COACHES/MEDIA): DE - Carlos Basham Jr., Wake Forest, 53,...Basham had the longest active streak in the country with 23 consecutive games tallying a tackle for loss. When it came to an end against Syracuse on Oct. 31, he was the only player in the country to have a streak in double digits. Throughout the year Basham earned national recognition being named a Senior CLASS Award Candidate while also being placed on the Chuck Bednarik Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy and Lott IMPACT Trophy watch lists.   2020 ALL-ACC FOOTBALL SECOND TEAM (COACHES/MEDIA): WR - Jaquarii Roberson, Wake Forest, 119,...Roberson became the first Wake Forest player since Chris Givens in 2011 to record three consecutive 100-plus yard receiving games. He has also had three consecutive games with a touchdown catch. The Murfreesboro, N.C. native has five consecutive games with six catches or more. He currently ranks second in the ACC with 99.4 receiving yards per game, trailing by less than a yard for the overall lead.
