  2021 ALL-CONFERENCE USA FIRST TEAM (COACHES): DE: Praise Amaewhule, RS So., UTEP,...Amaewhule leads the team with 13.0 tackles for loss (46 yards), while the sophomore defensive end is tied for team lead with seven breakups. The Katy, Texas, product recorded 39 tackles with 5.5 sacks (23 yards), which is tied fifth in C-USA and ranks second on the team. He's also posted a team-best 10 QB hurries, and is tied second in the league with three forced fumbles.

Amaewhule registered a career-high eight tackles to go along with a sack, 1.5 TFL and a breakup against ODU. He recorded 0.5 sack versus LA Tech, while adding two tackles, two hurries and a breakup. He was credited with a career-high seven hurries, a sack, forced fumble and four tackles in a win against UNM. "Praise has just had an outstanding year and outstanding career here with his sacks, so we're very proud of him and what he's been able to accomplish," Dimel said.   Freshman Calvin Hill rushed for 123 yards and a touchdown and Texas State held off a fourth-quarter rally by Arkansas State for a 24-22 victory in a Sun Belt Conference finale on Saturday. Hill's 6-yard TD run capped a six-play, 83-yard drive midway through the third quarter and gave the Bobcats (4-8, 3-5) a 24-13 lead heading into the final period. Blake Grupe kicked a 22-yard field goal early in the fourth to pull the Red Wolves (2-10, 1-7) within 24-16. Layne Hatcher connected with Corey Rucker for a 26-yard score to get Arkansas State within two points, but the 2-point try failed. The Red Wolves forced a three-and-out and Hatcher used five plays to get ASU to the Texas State 31-yard line, but Grupe missed a 48-yard field goal on the final play. Tyler Vitt completed 11 of 25 passes for a 121 yards for Texas State with a 31-yard TD pass to Travis Graham Jr. that gave the Bobcats a 14-7 lead after one quarter.   Gavin Hardison threw for a career-high 366 yards, Ron Awatt ran for 119 yards and UTEP defeated Rice 38-28 on Saturday. Hardison completed 23 of 35 passes and threw for two touchdowns. Jacob Cowling caught a career-high 11 passes for 170 yards. After trailing 21-14 at halftime, UTEP (7-4, 4-3 Conference USA) took control with a short field goal followed by a succession of 1-yard touchdown runs by Calvin Brownholtz, Quardraiz Wadley and again by Brownholtz. Jake Constantine threw two touchdown passes as the Owls scored 21 points in the second quarter to build their halftime lead.   OCT 18 C-USA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: UTEP DE Jadrian Taylor tied a school record with a career-high 3.5 sacks in UTEP's defensive victory against LA Tech on Oct. 16. Taylor added career bests in tackles (six) and tackles for loss (3.5). Taylor's 3.5 sacks totaled 13 loss yards. Louisiana Tech QB Austin Kendall started 6-6, but ended the night 14-28 due to UTEP's strong defensive effort. The Bulldogs' three points were the fewest in a conference game since 2008 (members of the WAC). Additionally, all of Taylor's sacks came during the first half. - C-USA Football

  Breon Heyward scooped up a fumble and raced 53 yards for a touchdown to spark UTEP to a 26-13 win over Southern Mississippi on Saturday night. Ronald Awatt ran for 159 yards and a touchdown and Jacob Cowing broke free for a 53-yard touchdown to give UTEP a 14-7 halftime advantage. Jake Lange threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Jason Brownlee in the first quarter to get the Golden Eagles even at 7-7, but had the ball stripped early in the third quarter and Heyward converted to put the Miners up, 21-7. Awatt had 18 carries and scored the game's first touchdown on a 17-yard run five minutes into the game. Deion Hankins carried 13 times for 46 yards for UTEP (5-1, 2-0 Conference USA). Lange was 20 of 31 for 239 yards passing and threw two touchdowns, but was picked off once and sacked five times.   Gavin Hardison threw for 293 yards and a touchdown as Texas-El Paso erased a 13-3 first-half deficit by shutting out New Mexico in the second half to earn a 20-13 victory on Saturday night. Deion Hankins scored from four-yards out to start the second half and cut the Lobos' lead to 13-10 and Hardison connected with Jacob Cowing on a 55-yard touchdown pass to take the lead, 17-13 with 9:27 left in the third quarter. Gavin Baechle kicked a 44-yard field goal with 2:56 left to set the final margin. The Miners (3-1) held New Mexico (2-2) to just 288 yards of total offense, including 123 yards on 35 carries.   AUG 30 CONFERENCE USA SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: UTEP K Gavin Baechle accounted for 12 of UTEP's 30 points scored after finishing a perfect 3-for-3 on field goals and connected on all three of his PAT attempts in the win over New Mexico State. The 12 points and three field goals by Baechle tied his career-high marks as a Miner, both of which were previously set in UTEP's win over Houston Baptist to open the 2019 campaign. Baechle connected on field goals from 35, 27 and 33 yards out.   AUG 30 CONFERENCE USA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: UTEP S Dy'Vonne Inyang led the Miner defense with six total tackles, including four solo stops, as the Miners snapped a three-game losing streak against the Aggies in the Battle of I-10 rivalry. The six tackles for Inyang tied a career-high mark for the veteran safety, who last tallied six tackles in UTEP's game at Charlotte in 2020. As a whole, Inyang led a defensive unit that held New Mexico State to its lowest point total since scoring three points at Ole Miss on Nov. 9, 2019. The three points scored by the Aggies marked the lowest point total in a home game for the Aggies since they lost, 59-0, to Boise State on Oct. 2, 2010 in Las Cruces. - Conference USA Football

  Gavin Hardison threw a career-high three touchdown passes, Willie Eldridge and Ronald Awatt each had over 100 yards rushing, and UTEP beat Bethune-Cookman 38-28 on Saturday night. Hardison lofted passes into the end zone from inside the 10 that set up fantastic catches each from Jacob Cowing and Justin Garrett in the fourth quarter, giving the Miners (2-0) a 31-14 lead with 10:44 remaining. Hardison also tossed a 2-yard TD pass to Trent Thompson in the first quarter and finished the game 14-of-22 passing for 183 yards. Awatt ran 18 times for 126 yards, and his 19-yard touchdown run stretched the Miners' lead to 37-21. Eldridge had 118 yards rushing on 14 carries. Shannon Patrick completed 15 of 22 passes for 215 yards and threw two touchdown passes and an interception for Bethune-Cookman in its season opener.
