J'Koby Williams returned the opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown and took a short pass 26 yards for a score on Texas Tech's first play, jump-starting the No. 14 Red Raiders' 42-0 victory over Oklahoma State on Saturday. Jacob Rodriguez returned a fumble 69 yards for a TD as Texas Tech (7-1, 4-1 Big 12) bounced back from its first loss, a 26-22 defeat at 24th-ranked Arizona State that dropped the Red Raiders out of the top 10. It was Texas Tech's first home Big 12 shutout since beating Baylor 28-0 in 2005. After lightning delayed the start for 30 minutes, Williams' return came on the first kickoff since school officials banned the yearslong tradition of fans throwing tortillas on kickoffs. The Red Raiders were penalized twice on kickoffs in their previous home game for objects thrown on the field in violation of a rule the Big 12 approved in August.

Texas Tech blocked a punt on the first possession for the Cowboys (1-7, 0-5), leading to Williams' TD on a screen from Will Hammond, who started a second consecutive game in place of the injured Behren Morton. Third-stringer Mitch Griffis replaced Hammond in the second quarter after Hammond appeared to injure his lower right leg on a run. Morton changed from street clothes to his uniform at halftime but only had to watch as Griffis threw a touchdown pass and ran for a score in the third quarter. Oklahoma State was limited to 182 yards in a seventh consecutive loss since beating lower-division Tennessee-Martin in the opener. The Cowboys have three shutout losses of at least 42 points since 2022. Rodriguez's 11th career fumble recovery - second among active FBS players - never touched the ground. Will Hammond exited No. 14 Texas Tech's game against Oklahoma State on Saturday with an apparent injury, prompting injured starting quarterback Behren Morton to change from street clothes to his uniform at halftime in case he was needed to finish the game. Morton was still on the sideline when third-stringer Mitch Griffis threw for a touchdown and ran for score in the third quarter to push the Red Raiders' lead to 42-0. Hammond appeared in injure his lower right leg on a run in the second quarter. There was no announcement from Texas Tech.

It was the second consecutive start for Hammond in place of Morton, who re-injured his right knee in a victory over Kansas on Oct. 11. Hammond started Texas Tech's first loss, 26-22 at No. 24 Arizona State last week. Hammond had a 26-yard touchdown pass to J'Koby Williams on a screen. Griffis' first play was a 3-yard loss on a fourth-and-1 keeper, but he threw a 42-yard TD pass to Caleb Douglas on Texas Tech's first possession of the second half. Cameron Dickey ran for 263 yards and two long touchdowns, Will Hammond scored twice after replacing injured quarterback Behren Morton and No. 9 Texas Tech beat Kansas 42-17 on Saturday night. Dickey sprinted 71 yards on the first offensive play for the Red Raiders and added a 55-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter. Texas Tech (6-0, 3-0 Big 12) had 372 yards rushing and recovered from a malaise after Morton's injury in the school's first game as an AP top 10 team since 2013. A 21-0 Texas Tech lead was down to four points at the break when the Jayhawks (4-3, 2-2) scored on three of their first four possessions after Morton appeared to injure his lower right leg on a sack in the second quarter. He didn't return.

Hammond threw an interception and the Red Raiders punted on his other three possessions before halftime. But the redshirt freshman ran 20 yards for a touchdown on the first drive of the second half. Dickey's second long TD put Texas Tech up 35-17, and Hammond's 10-yard run finished the scoring. Hammond had 61 yards rushing. It's the third time Hammond has come on with Morton not returning this season. Morton hyperextended his right knee in a 67-7 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the season opener and was sidelined in a 34-10 win over Utah after taking a hard hit to the head. Texas Tech quarterback Behren Morton exited the No. 9 Red Raiders' game against Kansas after appearing to injure his lower right leg when he was sacked in the second quarter. Morton pounded the turf after getting his legs caught under Leroy Harris III on the sack. The injury to Morton came on third down, so the offense was coming off the field anyway. He appeared to argue with the medical staff before backup Will Hammond went out for Texas Tech's next series, which ended after three plays. Hammond threw an interception on of the next possession. It's the third time this season Morton has exited a game with an injury. He hyperextended his right knee in a 67-7 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the season opener and was sidelined in a 34-10 win over Utah after taking a hard hit to the head.
