Freshman Max Duggan threw two touchdown passes, including a tiebreaking 44-yarder to Jalen Reagor the first play after one of Sam Ehlinger's career-high four interceptions, and TCU beat No. 15 Texas 37-27 on Saturday. Duggan finished with a career-best 273 yards passing against the Big 12's worse pass defense and ran for a clinching score late as the Horned Frogs (4-3, 2-2 Big 12) bounced back from consecutive conference road losses. Duggan led TCU with 72 yards rushing.

Ehlinger's first three interceptions led to 13 TCU points, and coach Tom Herman gave the Horned Frogs three more when he called timeout just before freshman Griffin Kell missed a 52-yard field goal try on the final play of the first half. Kell drilled the second chance. The Longhorns (5-3, 3-2) lost a third straight game in Fort Worth for the first time since the 1940s. It was the fifth win in six tries against Texas for the Horned Frogs, which includes their first four-game winning streak in the series since the 1930s. After Texas pulled within three with 6:50 remaining, Duggan converted two long third downs with completions, including a 36-yarder to Taye Barber with a defender right in his face to set up his 11-yard TD run. - TCU/AP College Football

  09/28/19 - Max DugganSr/2023, Texas Christian, 6-2, 207 (DS#13 QB) + More +

Freshman Max Duggan led touchdown drives on all three of his first-half possessions as TCU scored on every first-half possessions on Saturday and was never threatened in a 51-14 victory over Kansas to open Big 12 play. TCU (3-1, 1-0) dominated in every area of the first half against Kansas (2-3, 0-2), which ended a 48-game road losing streak to Power 5 opponents earlier this season at Boston College. TCU was locked in from the opening kickoff, coming off a home loss to rival SMU a week ago that knocked the Horned Frogs out of the Top 25. The Horned Frogs had some extra motivation as well after losing last year at Kansas.

Duggan started for a second straight game but was replaced midway through the second quarter by graduate transfer Alex Delton with the Horned Frogs in full control at 28-0. Delton, who played last year at Kansas State, led TCU on two scoring drives to end the first half for a 38-0 lead. Duggan, who played all but one snap a week ago against SMU after sharing time the first two weeks, was in for the first two second-half drives before giving way to Delton. Delton led his first touchdown drive of the season in the second quarter and finished 10-for-15 passing for 186 yards. - TCU/AP College Football

Darius Anderson paced a powerful rushing attack with 179 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries to help TCU beat Purdue 34-13 on Saturday night. Sewo Olonilua chipped in with 106 yards rushing and a score for the Horned Frogs. The Horned Frogs piled up 160 rushing yards on 28 attempts in the opening half compared to minus-1 on 12 attempts for the Boilermakers. Purdue finished with 23 rushing yards on 25 carries. After the teams traded field goals, Anderson scored on a 32-yard run to put TCU ahead 10-3 with 1:14 left in the first quarter and the Boilermakers trailed the rest of the way.

Redshirt freshman Jack Plummer completed 13 of 29 passes for 181 yards with two interceptions for Purdue (1-2). Plummer started in place of Elijah Sindelar, who was sidelined with concussion. Sindelar led the FBS with 932 yards passing after two games. J.D. Dellinger hit a career-long 53-yard field goal before Jonathan Song's 40-yard field goal pushed the Horned Frogs' lead to 13-6 with 1:09 left in the first half. Max Duggan found a wide-open Al'Dontre Davis for a 22-yard touchdown and Olonilua's 1-yard TD run made it 27-6 in third quarter before Anderson's 8-yard touchdown run pushed the lead to 34-6 in the fourth quarter. Plummer connected with Amad Anderson Jr. for a 54-yard touchdown with 3:40 left. - TCU/AP College Football

TCU has two weeks before its next game with Purdue, and coach Gary Patterson said that will give everyone the chance to continue all the guessing about who will emerge as the Horned Frogs' primary quarterback. Not much was decided Saturday night as TCU debuted two quarterbacks in graduate transfer Alex Delton and true freshman Max Duggan. Both were ho-hum in leading TCU to a 39-7 victory over FCS school Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the season opener for both teams.

Delton, who played 14 games with six starts the last two seasons at Kansas State, started but shared time with Duggan. Delton was more impressive running the ball (67 yards rushing on seven carries) than passing (10 for 22 for 119 yards). Duggan led all three of the Horned Frogs' touchdown drives and finished 16-for-23 passing for 165 yards. "I thought they stayed pretty composed," said TCU senior receiver TreVontae Hights, who set a career high with eight catches for 108 yards. "Their leadership was great. I feel comfortable with either one of them." - AP College Football

Graduate transfer Alex Delton will be the starting quarterback for TCU's season opener, and true freshman Max Duggan will also play in the first quarter against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday. Coach Gary Patterson said Tuesday the competition was good and that "a lot of guys keep pushing." Patterson also said senior running back Sewo Olonilua won't play in the first half Saturday. Olonilua, who set a school bowl record with 194 yards rushing in the Cheez-It Bowl, was arrested in May on possible drug charges in Walker County, Texas.

Delton got the starting edge at quarterback because of experience. He played 14 games with six starts the last two seasons at Kansas State, and was a team captain last year. Former Penn transfer Michael Collins started four games late last season for TCU before a right ankle injury that forced him to miss all of spring drills, then missed about two weeks of practice this month because of a foot injury. - AP College Football

Alabama will have to move forward without the top-ranked offensive player from this year's freshman class. Five-star freshman running back Trey Sanders suffered a significant foot injury on the last play of the team's practice Thursday night and is expected to miss the entire season, according to sources. It's an unfortunate blow for the Crimson Tide. Sanders, the top-ranked running back and No. 6 overall recruit in this year's recruiting class, had seemingly gotten off to a great start at Alabama and was expected to be a factor within the Tide's running back rotation this season.

"Trey Sanders is doing really, really well in camp," Alabama coach Nick Saban said earlier this week. "His work ethic is really good. He's learning every day. His attention to detail seems to be pretty good. He's got some ability I think may be able to contribute to the team." - Birmingham News
