TCU quarterback Max Duggan threw a go-ahead, 71-yard touchdown pass midway through the fourth quarter and ran for two more scores as the Horned Frogs held off No. 19 Oklahoma State 29-22 on Saturday. Duggan threw for 265 yards and ran for 104 to lead the Horned Frogs (5-4, 5-4 Big 12). Derius Davis caught the long TD pass in stride near the 25 with 7:56 left to give the Horned Frogs the lead. They stayed in front when Trevon Moehrig made a one-handed interception of a deflected pass in the end zone, and TCU had a fourth-down stop with 2:18 left after its own turnover. Oklahoma State (6-3, 5-3), with a makeup game remaining at Baylor, wasn't necessarily eliminated from making the Big 12 championship game in two weeks, but would need a lot of help to get there.

The Cowboys were trying to respond with a tying touchdown when Spencer Sanders' high pass deflected off the hands of 6-foot-7 Jelani Woods, and was grabbed by Moehrig in the back of the end zone. Duggan then fumbled when Amen Ogbongbemiga stripped the ball from him at the TCU 26. But Sanders was under extreme pressure and threw an incompletion on fourth down. Oklahoma State still had another shot after TCU failed to get a first down to run out the clock, but Sanders' desperation pass on the final play of the game fell incomplete in a crowd near the goal line. Tylan Wallace, the Oklahoma State senior playing in his hometown, had a 55-yard TD catch at the end of the third quarter to put the Cowboys up 22-21. He finished with seven catches for 92 yards. Sanders finished 16-of-31 passing for 248 yards. - TCU/AP College Football

TCU coach Gary Patterson doesn't know how you can properly evaluate a football program this year. The coronavirus pandemic has made it near impossible to draw substantive conclusions. At TCU, for instance, starting quarterback Max Duggan missed most of fall camp after being diagnosed with a heart condition that required surgery. That came on the heels of spring football being disrupted by COVID. How much more would have Duggan developed with a full spring and fall camp going into his sophomore season? Maybe he'd have similar numbers - 124 of 201 passing for 1,370 yards with eight TDs and three interceptions - but maybe not.

"You just take him as one example of all the time that he missed where he couldn't be out on the field," Patterson said. "He couldn't lift, he couldn't run. He couldn't do anything because of the heart situation. So you just take that one example. Where would he be right now if he had spring ball and he had all those practices during fall camp and went through all of it? I mean, I don't think there's any way...I don't know how you do it." As Patterson said, Duggan is just one example. TCU has plenty more, starting with Patterson's coaching staff. - Fort Worth Star

With a small senior class, Wallow became a standout leader on the Horned Frogs. "I took pride in being a leader starting my junior year," Wallow said. Wallow said what made him want to be a great leader was knowing that the younger guys are watching him. "We always push younger guys to step up and lead," Wallow said. "When it's their time to be the head of the team, they will know exactly what to do and they will be prepared for it." Wallow's leadership and place on the team has not gone unnoticed my head coach Gary Patterson. "I judge kids by how much enjoyment I have getting the chance to coach them," Patterson said. "He is one of those guys that could be your son." He also said, "All of the people around Garret Wallow are great people, and they are great people being he is a great person." - Dallas Morning News

Max Duggan threw three touchdown passes while running 58 yards for another score, TCU piled up 337 yards rushing in all, and the Horned Frogs bludgeoned their way to a 59-23 victory over winless Kansas on Saturday night. Zach Evans ran for 100 yards on 12 carries, and Darwin Barlow added 83 yards rushing and a score, as the Horned Frogs (4-4, 4-4 Big 12) easily bounced back from a lopsided loss to West Virginia in which they failed to reach the end zone. TCU had no such trouble in this one.

Duggan threw two TD passes to Pro Wells and another to Carter Ware, and Derius Davis returned a punt for a score, as coach Gary Patterson's crew raced to a 38-12 halftime lead. They settled into a ground-and-pound approach from there, and a pick-six from C.J. Caesar II and fumble recovery for a score by Dee Winters put an exclamation mark on the win. The Jayhawks (0-8, 0-7) tried errant and unsuccessful Jalon Daniels and Thomas MacVittie before giving Miles Kendrick a shot at quarterback. The third-stringer provided a spark, completing 11 of 18 passes for 166 yards with two TD passes to freshman Luke Grimm, who'd had just nine catches without a score all season. Still, he hardly overcame a defense that allowed at least 52 points for the fourth straight game. - TCU/AP College Football

Saban gave an update on second-year running back Trey Sanders, who is out for the season after being injured in a recent car accident. "Trey had surgery to repair his hip," Saban said. "We're very thankful that he is going to be OK. The surgery was very successful. It'll probably be a couple months, trying to get back to where he can start working out again and doing things. It wasn't the same kind of hip injury that Tua had. But nonetheless needed surgery. I think he thinks he's blessed and very fortunate that this could have been worse. We're thankful that he's going to be able to come back and be able to play again sometime in the future." - Birmingham News
