TCU football has landed its first player from the NCAA transfer portal in the Sonny Dykes era. Former Texas linebacker Terrence Cooks II announced that he will be playing for TCU next season. Cooks had a number of schools interested in him, including Ole Miss. Cooks joins a program that is transitioning from a 4-2-5 defense under Gary Patterson to a 3-3-5 scheme under new defensive coordinator Joseph Gillespie. He is expected to join a linebacker corps that includes returners in Dee Winters, Jamoi Hodge, Wyatt Harris and Shadrach Banks. TCU's coaching staff views Cooks as a versatile linebacker who could play any spot. He is listed at 6-foot-2, 218 pounds and was a highly-rated prospect coming out of Pearland Shadow Creek. TCU safety Michael Onyemaobi is entering the NCAA transfer portal after five seasons with the program, he told the Star-Telegram on Saturday. "What a blast at TCU," Onyemaobi said. "Forever indebted to this place and I am blessed to be apart of this family forever." Onyemaobi said he will have two years of eligibility left with medical redshirt season and the NCAA freezing status for players in 2020 amid the pandemic. He becomes the third Horned Frog player to enter the NCAA transfer portal since the season ended. Onyemaobi joins running back Zach Evans and defensive tackle Earl Barquet as players who intend to play elsewhere in 2022. Onyemaobi became on of the feel-good story lines for TCU this season, cracking the starting lineup for the West Virginia and Kansas State games. Coaching changes are inevitably followed by some degree of roster turnover. The Washington Huskies received a taste of that on Wednesday. Cooper McDonald - a second-year outside linebacker from Haslet, Texas - has entered the transfer portal, he announced on social media. A 6-foot-3, 245-pound outside linebacker, McDonald played in all 16 games across his first two seasons and made 10 starts - contributing 28 tackles with one sack and one pass defended. TCU long snapper Antonio Ortiz has been invited to a couple all-star games this offseason as he has professional potential. Ortiz was selected to play in the Hula Bowl and the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. Ortiz was a semifinalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award, which is given to the best FBS senior long snapper in the country. Ortiz was a four-year starter for the Frogs. The Hula Bowl is scheduled for Jan. 15 in Orlando, Florida, while the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl is Jan. 29 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. - Fort Worth Star

Emani Bailey scored on a 2-yard run to give No. 23 Louisiana-Lafayette a double-digit lead in the third quarter, and the Ragin' Cajuns held off Louisiana-Monroe for a 21-16 victory Saturday. The Ragin' Cajuns (11-1, 8-0) won their school-record 11th straight game after a season-opening loss at Texas and went unbeaten in Sun Belt Conference play for the first time. ULL will host Appalachian State in the conference championship game next Saturday. The Ragin' Cajuns also extended their win streak against Sun Belt West Division opponents to 16 games under fourth-year coach Billy Napier, who said it was far from a perfect performance by his squad. Other than a 46-yard second-quarter touchdown pass from ULM quarterback Rhett Rodriguez to Boogie Knight, the Warhawks (4-8, 2-6) did not have another offensive play longer than 24 yards. Chance Nolan passed for 257 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for a score, leading Oregon State to a 35-14 win over Stanford on Saturday. The victory makes Oregon State (6-4, 4-3 Pac-12) bowl eligible for the first time since 2013, and snapped an 11-game losing streak against the Cardinal. "It's been a long time coming, man," Oregon State senior linebacker Andrzej Hughes-Murray said of becoming bowl eligible. "I'm happy for my guys and happy for coach (Jonathan) Smith. And happy for myself, too." Smith, who was hired in 2018 to coach at his alma mater, inherited a team that was coming off a 1-11 season. "There's no question this is big," said Smith, who was the starting quarterback during Oregon State's 2000 Fiesta Bowl season. "(Win) number six is big. I'm not going to dance around that. We've got a couple more games that can mean a whole lot." Nolan completed 19 of 25 passes, including a 67-yard touchdown to Trevon Bradford that increased the lead to 21-0 early in the third quarter.

Injuries have taken a toll on Stanford (3-7, 2-6), which has lost five games in a row for the first time under coach David Shaw. Freshman Ari Patu struggled to get the Cardinal's passing game going in his first career start, completing 7 of 14 for 51 yards with a touchdown and interception before leaving midway through the third quarter with an undisclosed injury. Stanford used three quarterbacks in the game. "Better fight from our guys this week," said Shaw, whose team was coming off a 52-7 loss to Utah. "We're not just looking for better, we're trying to win." TCU's Derius Davis became the 10th FBS player to return a kick 100 yards, doing it on the opening kickoff against West Virginia. It was Davis' first kick return for a touchdown. He has run back four punts for TDs, which is tied for second in program history. His kick return was the Horned Frogs' first for a touchdown since KaVontae Turpin went 99 yards against Oklahoma in 2018. Chance Nolan threw four touchdown passes and Oregon State beat Southern California 45-27 on Saturday night. Tyjon Lindsey had five receptions for 102 yards and two touchdowns, B.J. Baylor ran for 158 yards and the Beavers (3-1, 1-0 Pac-12) ended a 24-game losing streak - dating to 1960 - at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. It was their fourth win in 49 road games (4-42-3) in the series. "I just love the feeling of getting a big team win. It doesn't matter what I did, it matters what we all did, and I was just a small part of it," Lindsey said. "The praise goes to the team. It's a team effort, and I love the way we handled business here. It looked like a complete team to me." Kedon Slovis threw for 355 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions as the Trojans (2-2, 1-2) lost their second straight home game as double-digit favorites.

It was the first home game for interim coach Donte Williams, who replaced Clay Helton two days after a 42-28 loss to Stanford on Sept. 11. "Well, tonight just wasn't our night," Williams said. "Oregon State, tonight they outcoached us, they outplayed us, and it will all get fixed. I promise you that." Oregon State used a dominant run game and Nolan's precise passing to methodically wear down USC, scoring touchdowns on five straight drives starting in the second quarter. That included consecutive 92-yard marches, the latter capped by Tre'Shaun Harrison's 36-yard scoring grab with 44 seconds left in the first half that put the Beavers up for good. Oregon State took care of business Saturday against FCS opponent Idaho, dominating from the outset in a 42-0 victory. Chance Nolan passed for three touchdowns and B.J. Baylor ran for two scores as the Beavers (2-1) amassed 438 total yards and were stout defensively. Oregon State led 28-0 at halftime and was not challenged by the Vandals (1-2), who have lost 17 of the past 18 matchups against the Beavers dating back to 1953. It was Oregon State's first shutout since a 3-0 victory over Pittsburgh in the 2008 Sun Bowl.

Idaho was limited to 192 total yards and didn't get inside the Beavers' 20-yard line until late in the third quarter after an interception of OSU backup quarterback Sam Noyer. Wide receiver Tyjon Lindsey, who missed last week's game against Hawaii with an ankle injury, got the Beavers on the board midway through the first quarter with an 18-yard touchdown catch. Baylor's 4-yard TD run increased the lead to 14-0 late in the first quarter. Deshaun Fenwick's 9-yard scamper gave the Beavers a 21-0 advantage at 11:05 of the second quarter. Nolan's 2-yard touchdown pass to tight end Teagan Quitoriano late in the first half gave Oregon State a 28-0 lead at the break. Chance Nolan passed for 302 yards and two touchdowns, and B.J. Baylor ran for a career-high 171 yards and three scores to lead Oregon State to a 45-27 victory over Hawaii on Saturday night. Nolan replaced starter Sam Noyer late in the third quarter of the Beavers' season-opening loss at Purdue last week and provided a spark. Coach Jonathan Smith opted to stay with the hot hand against Hawaii (1-2, 0-0 Mountain West). Good decision.

Nolan completed his first 13 passes as the Beavers (1-1) took a 24-7 halftime lead at the break. He finished 21 of 29 and also ran for 38 yards. "I did think he was sharp," Smith said. "We're going with stuff he's really comfortable with and it showed up. He came out really effective." Nolan, who started the last three games last season after an injury to Tristan Gebbia, learned Thursday that he would be in the starting lineup. If Saturday's performance was indicative, he could become a fixture as OSU's starting signal caller. "In our position you've got to prepare like you're gonna go in no matter what," Nolan said.
