  12/14/21 - Leon ONeal Jr.Sr/2022, Texas AM, 6-1, 204 (DS#10 SS) + More +

Texas A&M safety Leon O'Neal Jr., will declare for the NFL draft, forgoing a second senior season and he won't play in the Gator Bowl. "After many prayers and deep conversations with my teammates, family, and coaches I have decided to opt of the bowl game, forego my senior season, and declare for the NFL Draft," O'Neal tweeted Sunday afternoon. O'Neal becomes the third starter from the defense to declare for the draft along with All-American junior defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal and senior defensive tackle Jayden Peevy. Leal and Peevy also announced their intentions to enter the NFL draft via Twitter, but didn't say if they'd play in the Gator Bowl against Wake Forest on Dec. 31.

However, A&M coach Jimbo Fisher said he didn't think Leal would play in the Gator Bowl teleconference on Dec. 5. "We'll have to wait and see for sure, but I don't believe he will," Fisher said. "I'm sure he will go train and do the things he will do to get ready for the draft." Other A&M juniors who possibly could declare for the NFL draft and miss the bowl game are running back Isaiah Spiller, offensive guard Kenyon Green and tight end Jalen Wydermyer. - Bryan/College Station Eagle

  11/20/21 - *Isaiah SpillerJr/2022, Texas AM, 6-0, 217 (DS#3 RB) + More +

Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher worked all week to make sure his team didn't take Prairie View A&M lightly, especially with its regular-season finale against LSU coming up. The 16th-ranked Aggies quickly showed their coach that they heard his message loud and clear. Devon Achane and Isaiah Spiller combined for three touchdowns before halftime, and Texas A&M cruised to a 52-3 win over the Panthers on Saturday. "We didn't look ahead like LSU, LSU and just overlook PV," safety Leon O'Neal Jr. said. "That's not how we do things around here. We focused on Prairie View." Texas A&M easily bounced back from last week's loss at Ole Miss. Prairie View (7-3), an FCS school that plays in the SWAC, just couldn't keep up with the Aggies (8-3). "Our guys went out and played well and did what we were supposed to do," Fisher said. Texas A&M led 38-0 after a dominant first half by Achane and Spiller. It also limited Prairie View to 2 yards passing before the break.

Moose Muhammad grabbed a 30-yard TD pass from Zach Calzada on Texas A&M's first possession of the third quarter, making it 45-0. The Panthers got on the board on a 25-yard field goal by Luis Reyes on the next drive. Backup quarterback Blake Bost then took over for A&M with about 5 1/2 minutes left in the third quarter. Achane and Spiller combined for 115 yards rushing in the first two quarters and didn't run the ball after halftime. "They're great players and had very efficient days," Fisher said. "They started everything off for us perfectly." Prairie View graduate transfer Jawon Pass had just one completion and lost a fumble that the Aggies returned for a touchdown before being benched for Trazon Connley. He didn't fare much better, completing just one pass for 7 yards and rushing for 41 yards. - Texas A&M/AP College Football

  11/06/21 - Micheal ClemonsrSr/2022, Texas AM, 6-6, 265 (DS#10 DE) + More +

Micheal Clemons scored the game's only touchdown on a 24-yard fumble return early in the fourth quarter, and No. 13 Texas A&M beat No. 12 Auburn 20-3 on Saturday. Clemons' scoop-and-score came after defensive tackle Jayden Peevy poked the ball away from scrambling Auburn quarterback Bo Nix. Clemons, a 6-foot-5, 270-pound defensive end, picked up the ball and sprinted to the end zone, diving to the ground after he crossed the goal line. Zach Calzada finished 15 of 29 for 192 yards for Texas A&M (7-2, 4-2 Southeastern Conference), shaking off an apparent injury to his non-throwing shoulder in the third quarter. His performance was was good enough for the Aggies to survive a defensive battle between the two highest-ranked two-loss teams in the country.

Auburn (6-3, 3-2) had its four-game winning streak in College Station snapped. Calzada woke up the crowd of 109,835 - the second-largest in Kyle Field history - with a 49-yard completion to Caleb Chapman late in the third quarter, setting up a 29-yard field goal by Seth Small that gave the Aggies a 6-3 lead. Small put the Aggies up 9-3 with a 47-yard field goal with 13:40 remaining before the Aggies' defense finally found the end zone. Small connected again from 37 yards with 3:15 remaining. Small opened the scoring midway through the first quarter on a 21-yard kick, and Auburn answered with Anders Carlson's 32-yard field goal late in the quarter. Both Small and Carlson missed midrange field-goal attempts that would have broken the 3-3 tie. - Texas A&M/AP College Football

  10/24/21 - Ainias SmithrSr/2024, Texas AM, 5-09, 190 (DS#29 WR) + More +

Ainias Smith spoke to his Texas A&M teammates about the importance of starting fast before Saturday night's game against South Carolina. Then he made sure the Aggies did just that. Smith had a 95-yard punt return for a touchdown and Jalen Wydermyer added two TD catches as No. 17 Texas A&M built a huge first-half lead and coasted to a 44-14 rout of South Carolina. The Aggies forced a punt on South Carolina's first drive and Smith returned it for the score. It was the longest punt return for a touchdown in the FBS this season and the longest for the Aggies since Dustin Harris had a 96-yard return for a TD in 2012 against South Carolina State. "My message to the team was...let's start strong and go out here and get an edge on them real quick," Smith said. "And it just so happened that my opportunity came and I was actually going to be that guy." The star rushing duo of Isaiah Spiller and Devone Achane continued to do damage for the Aggies.

They combined for 256 yards and two touchdowns a week after rushing for 292 yards and three touchdowns. Texas A&M (6-2, 3-2 SEC) raced to a 31-0 lead by halftime, and Achane's 35-yard touchdown run made it 41-0 late in the third as the Aggies improved to 8-0 all-time against South Carolina. "That's what a dominant SEC football team looks like and they played like it," South Carolina coach Shane Beamer said. It was the third straight victory for Texas A&M, which knocked off top-ranked Alabama two weeks ago before beating Missouri last week. - Texas A&M/AP College Football

  10/16/21 - *Isaiah SpillerJr/2022, Texas AM, 6-0, 217 (DS#3 RB) + More +

Texas A&M's running back duo of Isaiah Spiller and Devon Achane combined for 292 rushing yards and three touchdowns to power the 21st-ranked Aggies to a 35-14 victory over Missouri on Saturday. Spiller rushed 20 times for 168 yards and one touchdown, and Achane added 16 carries for 124 yards and two scores as Texas A&M (5-2, 2-2 Southeastern Conference) avoided a letdown after last week's upset of Alabama.

Missouri (3-4, 0-3 SEC) has the nation's worst run defense - allowing 287 rushing yards per game - and it offered little resistance as Spiller ripped off a 48-yard touchdown run and Achane followed with a 20-yard scoring run in the first quarter. The home crowd booed Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz when he ran out the clock in the first half rather than aggressively trying to cut into the Aggies' 28-7 lead. Zach Calzada completed 13 of 25 passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns. Both scoring passes went to Ainias Smith. - Texas A&M/AP College Football
