He finished 25-for-33 with career-highs of 426 yards and five touchdowns through the air.   09/12/20 - Sam EhlingerSr/2021, Texas, 6-1, 220 (DS#9 QB) + More +

Sam Ehlinger threw a 78-yard touchdown to Joshua Moore on the first play and had career-high five scoring passes in the first half, as No. 14 Texas rolled to a 59-3 season-opening win over UTEP Saturday night. Ehlinger finished with 426 yards. He left the game midway through the third quarter with Colt McCoy's single-game records for yards (470) and touchdowns (six) easily within reach if he'd stayed on the field. Moore's first touchdown since 2018 came on an inside route when he burst past one diving defender and outran two more with an easy path to the end zone. Ehlinger's final touchdown pass came on a 6-yard toss to walk-on Kai Money in the final seconds of the first half.

Texas' original schedule had the Longhorns visiting defending national champion LSU this weekend, in a rematch of a 2019 classic. But that game was scrapped as the Big 12 and Southeastern Conference retooled their schedules amid the coronavirus pandemic. With social distancing rules and limits in place, Texas announced a crowd of 15,337 at a stadium that typically holds close to 100,000. The school required students using a special student season ticket package to pass a rapid COVID-19 test on Friday before they could go to the game. The school paid for the tests and reported 95 positives out of 1,198 administered. No other ticket holders were required to be tested. - AP College/Texas Football

  09/11/20 - *Samuel CosmirJr/2021, Texas, 6-6, 314 (DS#6 OT) + More +

For Samuel Cosmi, the decision to play this fall was made in January. Eight months ago, the Texas left tackle took to Twitter to announce that he'd return to for his redshirt junior season. He tweeted that it was a dream for both him and his family to earn a degree. He also wanted to chase a championship with his teammates. Cosmi hasn't wavered in his decision. Not even during a pandemic. When asked on Tuesday if he had thought about focusing on the NFL draft instead of a college season that has plenty of unknown variables, he replied, "I haven't thought any of opting out."

"I'm all in right now," he added. "I still see myself as the kid walking on campus and trying to get a spot and figure out what am I going to do and how am I going to get on the field. I still have that mentality. None of this has really hit me. I'm here to play football." Had Cosmi had a change of heart, he wouldn't have been alone. A few players that will likely be chosen early in the 2021 draft won't be playing this fall. - Austin American Statesman

  09/10/20 - Tarik BlackSr/2021, Texas, 6-3, 213 (DS#55 WR) + More +

Former Michigan receiver Tarik Black was a late arrival to campus, but apparently had enough time to make a splash at Texas. Black, who transferred to Austin over the summer after graduating from Michigan, was named a starting wideout for the Longhorns' season opener on Saturday against the University of Texas, El Paso (8 p.m., ET, Longhorn Network). Texas unveiled its weekly depth chart on Monday, with the 6-foot-3, 217-pound Black listed as the No. 1 "X" receiver. He reportedly beat out junior Brennan Eagles, who started seven games last season for Texas, for the spot. "He has assimilated very well," Texas head coach Tom Herman told The Houston Chronicle last week. "The team has embraced him because of his work ethic and his contribution to the team, and the offense in particular. "Guy is very selfless. You know, he wants to be on all the special (teams) units, volunteering to do that."

The Longhorns expect to utilize a three-receiver set for senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger, who threw for 3,663 yards and 32 touchdowns (with 10 interceptions) and earned honorable mention all-Big 12 honors in 2019. Black, a Hamden, Conn., native, is the most experienced of the wideout group, starting alongside sophomores Jake Smith and Joshua Moore (redshirt). He played in 21 games from 2017 to 2019, starting nine of them, but was hampered by foot injuries during his first two seasons. Black's most productive season came last fall, when he played in 12 games and caught 25 passes for 323 yards and a touchdown. - Ann Arbor News

  09/09/20 - *Brennan EaglesJr/2021, Texas, 6-4, 225 (DS#43 WR) + More +

Graduate transfer Tarik Black is officially the starter over junior Brennan Eagles after a disappointing camp for Eagles, the team's leading returning receiver. Throughout the offseason, the expectation was that Eagles would take a big leap this season, but that's now in question as he starts the season as a backup. Black has been impressive in his own right, however. - Burnt Orange Nation

  09/08/20 - Gabriel WatsonrSr/2022, Texas, 5-11, 226 (DS#115 RB) + More +

With its 2020 football season set to start this weekend, Texas has added two new names to its roster. Running back Gabriel Watson and receiver Brenden Schooler have officially joined the Longhorns as graduate transfers. The additions of Watson and Schooler were previously reported, but Texas had not acknowledged their arrivals. Watson will wear No. 25 this season. The No. 81 jersey has been assigned to Schooler. According to Texas coach Tom Herman, both Watson and Schooler will be available for the Longhorns' opener against UTEP on Saturday. Herman said that Schooler was recently cleared to practice and has been running with the second-string offense. Herman added that Watson added depth and a different skill set to his room of running backs. "In a year like this you can never have too much depth," Herman said. "Those guys are veteran guys that will add a lot of value to their respective rooms." - Austin American Statesman

  09/04/20 - Darion DunnrSr/2022, Texas, 5-11, 185 (DS#125 CB) + More +

  08/30/20 - *Bijan RobinsonJr/2023, Texas, 5-11, 215 (DS#1 RB) + More +

Mesquite Poteet linebacker Malik Jefferson was the most-hyped recruit UT signed on Charlie Strong's watch. Robinson earns that distinction thus far for Tom Herman. The running back from Tucson, Ariz., was a high school All-American and two-time state player of the year. He also set a new state rushing record with 7,036 yards. The five-star prospect was the No. 1-ranked running back recruit in the country, according to 247Sports' composite ratings. He's not likely to be the opening-game starter against UTEP. He may not even be second in the rotation. All freshmen must earn their spot through practice, and in Herman's world, everyone must protect the football at all costs. Other recent freshmen have come in with great fanfare. Injuries slowed Jordan Whittington. Jake Smith had to wait his turn. But Robinson is someone that fans will get to know soon. He's simply too electric. - Austin American Statesman

  08/30/20 - Brenden SchoolerrSr/2022, Texas, 6-2, 203 (DS#20 FS) + More +

Texas continues to work the grad transfer market and expects to add a Pac-12 castoff in receiver Brenden Schooler, a source familiar with the situation told the American-Statesman. Schooler spent most of his career at Oregon, piling up 43 catches for 521 yards and four touchdowns from 2016-19. He transferred to Arizona for the 2020 season but the league canceled football over coronavirus fears. Horns247 first reported the transfer, although it's still unclear when Schooler will join the team and whether he'll play in the season opener against UTEP. Graduate transfers are eligible immediately. Texas coaches have felt the receiver group needed more depth. UT signed Michigan grad transfer Tarik Black during the offseason. Now, they're adding another one in Schooler. - Austin American Statesman

  08/27/20 - Keilan RobinsonrSr/2024, Texas, 5-08, 191 (DS#25 RB) + More +

The status of sophomore running back Keilan Robinson remains up in the air. Robinson, who would likely be fourth on the Crimson Tide's running back depth chart at this point, hasn't taken part in any of the team's fall camp practices. Nevertheless, Alabama is in great shape at running back. Former five-star recruit Trey Sanders, who missed his freshman season due to an injury, is apparently looking great and is expected to be a factor within the Tide's running back rotation to go along with players like Najee Harris and Brian Robinson. In addition, it sounds like four-star freshman Roydell Williams has been making a strong early impression. - Birmingham News

  08/12/20 - Anthony CookrSr/2023, Texas, 6-0, 188 (DS#27 FS) + More +

The roster for the Texas football team once again includes Anthony Cook's name. Earlier this summer, Cook tweeted that he had played at Texas for the last time. Cook deleted that tweet, but the junior cornerback later entered the transfer portal anyways. His name was scrubbed from the team's roster in July. Near the end of July, it was reported by multiple media outlets that Cook had withdrawn from the transfer portal. Recently, he reappeared on the roster listed on the team's website. In his collegiate career, Cook has appeared in 25 games and made seven starts. He has recorded 42 tackles, three pass deflections and a forced fumble. - Austin American Statesman
