  The No. 11-ranked tight end in the 2019 class saw a huge jump in his production in the final seven games last season. He had caught one ball six weeks into the season before reeling in 17 more for 274 yards and three touchdowns to finish. Billingsley also received kicks and punts in the final weeks of the season and was used in the slot and out wide.   A local prep star who came to Alabama with high expectations announced Monday he intends to explore options elsewhere. Ben Davis, the No. 10 overall recruit in the class of 2016, said he entering the NCAA transfer portal in a Twitter post. AL.com confirmed his name appeared in the portal shortly after making the announcement. The Gordo High School graduate will be using the extra year of eligibility granted to every player participating in the 2020 season. It would have been his fourth and final season on the NCAA clock after he redshirted his freshman season of 2016.   Former Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger started and threw a touchdown pass in the Reese's Senior Bowl on Saturday. Ehlinger only appeared in the first quarter of Saturday's Senior Bowl, which was played in Mobile, Ala. Over those 15 minutes, Ehlinger completed four of his 10 passes. He finished with 42 passing yards, 12 of which were picked up on a touchdown toss to former UCLA running back Demetric Felton. Ehlinger's National Team ended up earning a 27-24 win.   Another Texas Longhorns player will take advantage of the extra year of eligibility afforded by the NCAA due to the coronavirus pandemic, as defensive end Jacoby Jones announced Tuesday that he will return for a fifth season overall and third season on the Forty Acres.   Less than a week after entering the NCAA transfer portal, former LSU outside linebacker Ray Thornton has found a new destination for the upcoming season. Thornton will transfer to Texas, a source confirmed with The Advocate Sunday evening. The news was first reported by 247Sports. Thornton is from Killeen, Texas, and he was a former four-star recruit out of Shoemaker High. Thornton was the most recent player to enter the NCAA transfer portal, joining former star tight end Arik Gilbert, who, after nearly a month away from the team, officially announced Jan. 2 that he intended to transfer. - Baton Rouge Advocate

  A day after LSU's football players returned to campus for offseason training, the Tigers program experienced its third player entering the NCAA transfer portal this offseason. LSU outside linebacker Ray Thornton entered the NCAA transfer portal on Tuesday, a source confirmed with The Advocate. The news was first reported by AL.com. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound senior played in nine games last season and recorded five total tackles, two sacks and two tackles for loss. Thornton was primarily used near the line of scrimmage in LSU's pass-rush packages, and he was tied with two other players for fourth-most sacks on the team. - Baton Rouge Advocate

  Texas Football senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger will forgo his extra season of eligibility and enter the 2021 NFL Draft, he announced Sunday. Ehlinger has accepted an invitation to the 2021 Senior Bowl that will be played on January 30 in Mobile, Ala. Ehlinger, an Austin native, ends his collegiate career as one of the most successful quarterbacks in Texas history.

He played in 46 games and made 43 starts during his time on the Forty Acres, leading the Longhorns to 27 wins as the starting quarterback – the fourth-most in school history. Ehlinger served as a team captain during the 2019 and 2020 seasons, becoming only the seventh two-time team captain in school history. His name is left near the top of numerous lists in the Texas record book. Most notably, he closes his collegiate career ranked second on UT record in completions (923), passing yards (11,436), total offense (13,343), passing touchdowns (94), and total touchdowns responsible for (127). - Texas Football

  Texas fired football coach Tom Herman on Saturday after four seasons of failing to win a Big 12 championship and only one league title game appearance. Herman still had three seasons left on a guaranteed contract that was due to pay him more than $6 million per year, and the move means Texas will soon be on its fourth head coach since its last Big 12 title in 2009 under Mack Brown.

Herman was supposed to end that drought. He was college football's hottest young coach when Texas brought him from Houston to replace Charlie Strong in 2016. But Herman's results never matched his swagger: He never had a losing season and won four bowl games at Texas, including last week's Alamo Bowl. But he couldn't return the Longhorns to consistent league or national title contenders. He was just 1-4 against the archrival Oklahoma and leaves Texas 32-18 overall. - AP College Football

  Casey Thompson passed for 170 yards and four touchdowns and No. 20 Texas overcame an injury to senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger and beat Colorado 55-23 in the Valero Alamo Bowl on Tuesday night. Freshman running back Bijan Robinson had 183 yards on 10 carries with a TD for Texas (7-3). The Longhorns are undefeated in five bowl games under Tom Herman. Ehlinger missed the second half after sustaining a shoulder injury in second quarter.

He returned to the field in the third quarter in warmups, with his right arm in a sling. There was no immediate word on the extent of Ehlinger's injury. Ehlinger played the entire first half, completing 10 of 16 passes for 160 yards and a score. Colorado was playing its sixth game of the season due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Pac-12 initially canceled its season only to reverse the decision and delay the start until Nov. 7. The Buffaloes (4-2) had two games canceled due to virus issues, but competed in the Alamo Bowl despite failing to reach the traditional six win threshold required for the postseason due to this season's unusual circumstances. - AP College Football

The senior ranks second on most of UT's significant career passing records, but won't catch Colt McCoy's marks for passing yards (he's 1,978 short) or touchdowns (he needs 20).   With the NCAA granting an extra year of eligibility to all players this year, Texas senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger could return next season. Although not regarded as one of the top quarterback recruits in the 2021 NFL Draft, he is a pro prospect who is likely to get a good shot at the next level. This week, Ehlinger said, "I haven't come to a conclusion yet. I'm trying to enjoy these last few weeks, but I haven't closed one door on anything yet. No senior has really been in this position to where they've been granted an extra year of eligibility. Both options are incredible options." Ehlinger, who is 26-16 as a starter, is one of only two Power 5 quarterbacks in history to pass for over 11,000 yards in a career and add 1,500 rushing - joining former Texas star Colt McCoy.
