  08/01/22 - Darius SnowrSr/2027, Texas, 6-0, 230 (DS#999 ILB) + More +

There were several roster questions answered on Wednesday, including the fact junior Darius Snow is now listed as a linebacker, completing his move from the secondary. Snow, the nephew of former MSU All-America linebacker Percy Snow, started nine games last year, including eight as the nickel back and one at safety, before spending most of the spring working at linebacker. "I believe that's a natural position for him," Tucker said. "He's a big guy; he's a physical player and he does have versatility. There still may be a role for him in our secondary in some packages because of his versatility. But he has a nose for the ball and, obviously, he's got the pedigree. "He looked really good there in the spring and so we feel like that's the best fit for him here and beyond. We really feel like that's his future." - Detroit News

  07/25/22 - *Bijan RobinsonJr/2023, Texas, 5-11, 215 (DS#1 RB) + More +

2022 PRESEASON DOAK WALKER AWARD CANDIDATE: Bijan Robinson (Jr.), Texas,...Former NFL Draft Scout analyst Dane Brugler, now with The Athletic, rates Bijan Robinson (6-0, 220) as the best running back prospect in the 2023 draft and says he would have been the top back picked in 2022. Says Brugler: "He established himself as one of the best backs in the country from day one, averaging 8.2 yards as a true freshman (2020)...finishing with 1,127 rushing yards last year as a sophomore...Robinson is a special back for several reasons - most of all, his ability to force missed tackles due to his unique mix of elusiveness and power. He is a one-cut maestro with the twitchy reflexes in his lower body to start-stop in a blink and leave broken tackles all over the field. Robinson's burst allows him to accelerate rapidly, and he runs with the physicality to keep his balance through contact…. Robinson is at his best on zone-stretch and outside runs, where his field vision and cutback burst helps him create. Robinson shows dynamic skills as a pass catcher, both out of the backfield and lined up in the slot. His elusiveness translates well to the passing game, and he can dust coverage on hitches or angle routes...He also needs to show better attention to detail as a pass blocker." Aw, cmon Dane why waste him as a blocker when he can be a dangerous outlet receiver. - Frank Cooney, Draft Scout & The Athletic

In 2015, a yearlong power struggle inside the University of Texas administration finally ended and beer started flowing at Royal-Memorial Stadium. Now UT prefers Longhorns fans drink Bud Light. Anheuser-Busch, one of the nation's largest brewers, announced Thursday that it will become the "exclusive domestic and craft beer sponsor" of Texas athletics, the Texas Exes alumni association and the AT&T Red River Showdown game against rival Oklahoma. The university has signed a five-year marketing and advertising agreement with Anheuser-Busch and Austin-based Brown Distributing. Financial terms were not disclosed. UT signed a similar marketing agreement in 2017 with Constellation Brands, the makers of Corona, the nation's top imported beer.

Bud Light will release UT-branded packaging in 16-ounce aluminum bottles and 12-ounce cans in the state of Texas starting Sept. 1. Texas fans attending home games at Royal-Memorial Stadium have become accustomed to being able to purchase a beer, but it wasn't too long ago that serving beer at college events was virtually unheard of. UT athletics just signed a five-year deal with Anheuser-Busch. In a statement, Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte said the school was "grateful for the commitment" from both Anheuser-Busch and Brown Distributing, a company that has supported UT athletics for decades. "They're just a fantastic group of folks who are awesome to work with and will absolutely share our devotion to our great Texas fans everywhere," Del Conte said. "We're so excited to welcome Anheuser-Busch to Longhorn Nation as an official sponsor." - Austin American Statesman

Big 12 reporters covering the league believe Texas will have a bounce-back season. But they're not picking the Longhorns to steamroll the competition, either. UT was picked to finish fourth in the preseason Big 12 media poll announced Thursday by the league office. A fourth-place finish would equate to a 9-3 or 8-4 type of season. That would represent a solid move in the right direction after coach Steve Sarkisian's first campaign finished 5-7. Long-term recruiting is also on the upswing with quarterback Arch Manning's commitment.

The class of 2023 is now projected to be easily a top-five haul. The Longhorns' arrow is pointed up. But Sarkisian must win in the here and now. In the writers' preseason poll, Baylor collected 17 first-place votes while Oklahoma was second with 12 first-place votes. Oklahoma State was third, and Texas was fourth. Two writers picked the Horns to win the Big 12 while nine thought the Cowboys could win it all. - Austin American Statesman
