Bijan Robinson ran for 183 yards and three touchdowns, Jahdae Barron returned an interception 44 yards for a score in the third quarter and No. 21 Texas beat UTSA 41-20 on Saturday night. Texas trailed 17-7 in the second quarter then rallied to tie it by halftime. Robinson's 78-yard touchdown run gave Texas the lead, and Barron's interception return put the Longhorns up by 11 to snuff the Roadrunners' bid for an upset that would have been the biggest win in the history of a rising program that has only been playing football since 2011.

Hudson Card got the start at quarterback for Texas (2-1) in place of the injured Quinn Ewers. Card had his own struggles with an ankle sprain during the week and wasn't announced as the starter until game time. He still finished with 161 yards passing and even scampered for a 32-yard run in the fourth quarter. Texas jumped into the national rankings on the strength of its close loss a week earlier to then-No. 1 Alabama, but found itself quickly down by 10 as UTSA (1-2) followed a surprise onside kick with a trick play touchdown pass to Zakhari Franklin. Texas eventually wore down the Roadrunners, last season's C-USA champions behind a rushing attack that rolled up 298 yards. Robinson put the game out of reach with a 41-yard touchdown run with 9:36 left that made it 38-20. - Texas/AP College Football

  09/06/22 - Darius SnowrSr/2027, Texas, 6-0, 230 (DS#999 ILB) + More +

Michigan State linebacker Darius Snow will miss the rest of the season, head coach Mel Tucker said Monday. Snow was injured in Friday night's 35-13 season-opening victory over Western Michigan. Snow, who was credited with two tackles, was hit in the right leg by teammate Chester Kimbrough as both attempted to stop a Western Michigan runner. Snow had trouble getting up and put virtually no weight on his right leg as he was helped off the field. "When I saw him after the game...I said, Remember, I told you this, don't let anyone tell you what you can or can't do," Tucker said. "Injuries are a part of the game. It's very unfortunate. But you know, we're gonna chop, he's gonna chop, we're gonna chop with him, and we'll see how things turn out. I wouldn't count him out. He's just too good, too good of a guy. He's got too much of the 'it' factor. He's got the pedigree. It runs deep in his blood." The 6-foot-1, 230-pound Snow this season was making a full-time transition from safety to linebacker. He had 87 tackles last season, including 5.5 for loss. - The Detroit News

  09/03/22 - Quinn EwersrJr/2025, Texas, 6-2, 214 (DS#4 QB) + More +

Quinn Ewers passed for 225 yards and two touchdowns in his debut at quarterback for Texas and the Longhorns rolled over Louisiana-Monroe 52-10 Saturday night in the season-opener for both programs. The win against an overmatched opponent was still a much-needed one for second-year coach Steve Sarkisian after the Longhorns went 5-7 in 2021. Texas next week hosts No. 1 Alabama, where Sarkisian was offensive coordinator when the Crimson Tide won the national championship in 2020. Ewers was one of the top recruits in the country out of high school near Dallas but skipped his senior season and enrolled at Ohio State. He was buried on the Buckeyes' depth chart and took just two snaps last season before transferring. He won the starting job over Hudson Card, who was the Texas starter to open the 2021 season.

Ewers said he was surprisingly calm in his first college start. "I didn't have any butterflies going into today. A little bit on the first play, but not even as much as I did in high school," Ewers said. "I liked it. I enjoyed the game." Ewers had a solid night despite some struggles to hit deep throws and his biggest plays came on catch-and-run hookups his receivers turned into long gains. His favorite target on the night was tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders, who caught six passes for 85 yards and a first-quarter touchdown. Bijan Robinson finished with 111 total yards on 13 touches, and two third-quarter touchdowns on a 16-yard catch and a 9-yard run. The third-year running back has a touchdown in 12 of his last 13 games. "It's a lot of fun," Ewers said of the Texas offensive and its multiple playmakers. "Especially when things are clicking on all levels." - Texas/AP College Football

ESPN TOP 100 PRESEASON 2022 CFB PLAYERS (Selected Aug. 17): No. 99. Andrew Mukuba, S, Clemson, Sophomore. Notable 2021 stat: 48 tackles (30 solo). Last year's ranking: NR. For the season, Mukuba held opposing QBs to less than 50% completions, had seven pass breakups, allowed just three completions of 20 yards or more and surrendered less than half a yard per coverage snap. Meanwhile, he finished fourth on the team with 48 tackles. His role in 2022 gets even bigger, however, as he's the only established starter in Clemson's new-look secondary. - ESPN.com

Name, Image and Likeness has been a game changer for the college football world. NCAA athletes are able to make money off the field in a way we have never seen before. Texas running back Bijan Robinson is a prime example of a player taking full advantage of his NIL opportunities. The Heisman hopeful has built an impressive portfolio of NIL deals over the past calendar year. Robinson is working with Lamborghini, Raising Cane's, C4 Energy and many more notable brands. His latest NIL deal might be his best one yet. We have seen a fair share of creative NIL deals in this new era of college sports but this one might take the cake. "Bijan Mustardson" is now available for anyone to purchase. It is sure to be a popular condiment at Texas Longhorn tailgates in the fall. - Longhorns Wire
