An undrafted rookie, George participated at Titans rookie minicamp last week on a tryout basis. The 5-foot-11, 194-pound defensive back appeared in 33 games and made 10 starts across four seasons for the Vols, recording 52 tackles, 10 passes defended, two fumble recoveries and an interception. He began his college career at Trinity Valley Community College, where he played for two seasons. WR Bru McCoy's most likely last opportunity to prove himself hangs in the balance with Tennessee as the Vols hold out hope he can still become the player so many were convinced he would be. Here is his travel log: After Initially signing with Tom Herman and The University of Texas in 2019, McCoy, a one-time sure fire recruit from SoCal's Mater Dei High school, entered the transfer portal deciding to return closer to home and enroll at USC under Clay Helton to begin his collegiate career. After a productive redshirt freshman season in Los Angeles, McCoy appeared poised to live up to the hype entering his sophomore year but did not play a snap at USC during the 2021 season after he was arrested in July on suspicion of domestic violence.

Although the Los Angeles District Attorney's office did not file criminal charges against McCoy, USC decided not to reinstate the former five-star after concluding their own Title IX investigation before the beginning of last season. Now McCoy is set to join his third program in four years, aiming to rejuvenate a once promising career alongside Josh Heupel and his high powered Rocky Top offense. After losing Velus Jones and JaVonta Payton to the NFL, the Vols will have to replace over 1,200 yards and 13 TDs from last season, paving the way for a dynamic perimeter option like McCoy to excel. - 247 Sports/LA Times

Hooker didn't earn the starting job last spring or last summer, but he sure did flourish once he took the reins. Capitalizing on a Joe Milton injury against Pittsburgh in the second game of the season, the 6-foot-4, 218-pounder wound up completing 206 of 303 passes for 2,945 yards with 31 touchdowns and only three interceptions, setting single-season school records for passer efficiency (181.4) and accuracy (68.0%) in the process.

He became the first Davey O'Brien Award semifinalist for the Vols since Erik Ainge in 2006 and capped his season with 437 total yards and five aerial touchdowns in the bowl game. Milton arrived in Knoxville before the start of summer and managed to win the job late in preseason camp, but he was plagued by overthrows in his starts against Bowling Green and Pitt, when he was 18-of-35 for 189 yards and a touchdown. The most impressive play of his two starts was a 54-yard run against the Panthers. Milton replaced an injured Hooker late against Ole Miss and committed his biggest gaffe, opting for a 13-yard scramble instead of throwing for the end zone as time expired in a 31-26 defeat inside Neyland Stadium.

The fact Milton lost his starting job yet remains in Knoxville may be the biggest testament to the culture Heupel has created. "Joe has been an amazing teammate this entire offseason," Vols quarterbacks coach Joey Halzle said earlier this spring. "There were opportunities, and I'm sure a lot of people would have taken him, but he wanted to stay here." - Chattanooga Times Free Press

Wide receiver Bru McCoy, a Southern Cal transfer and former five-star recruit, has committed to Tennessee. It could be a win-win situation, that is, if the nature of McCoy's exit from USC isn't an issue. The Vols get a talented 6-foot-3, 220-pound target to add to their offense, which was the highest scoring in program history last season. And McCoy gets a fresh start after a turbulent three years at USC that included a transfer, illness, arrest, removal from the roster, Title IX investigation and another transfer. In December 2018, McCoy was the No. 1 athlete, by position, and No. 9 overall player in his recruiting class when he signed with USC, according to 247Sports Composite. But he transferred to Texas and then back to USC in spring 2019.

McCoy redshirted in the 2019 season because of an unspecified illness. In 2020, he made an immediate impact with 21 receptions for 236 yards and two TDs in six games during a COVID-shortened season. In 2021, McCoy was named to the preseason Pac-12 team by numerous publications. But his July 24 arrest on suspicion of felony intimate partner violence derailed his season. ETSU graduate transfer Austin Lewis, a defensive end, has committed to Tennessee, he announced on Twitter on Wednesday. Lewis, a 6-foot-6, 270-pounder, is from Jonesborough, Tennessee, and holds the career record for tackles at David Crockett High. He played three years at Liberty, including a Freshman All-America season in 2018, and one year at ETSU. "Super grateful for this opportunity! Ready to go to work!," Lewis posted on Twitter. In 2021, Lewis played only four games due to a knee injury suffered in the preseason. He still has two seasons of eligibility remaining because of a COVID-exempt year. It's not known whether Lewis will be on scholarship at UT, but he could add depth at defensive end. The 5-foot-11, 195-pounder was the nation's No. 9 safety and No. 169 overall prospect in the 2021 signing cycle, according to the 247Sports.com composite rankings. "It checked all the boxes I was looking for," Turrentine told 247Sports of his decision to relocate, "and it just felt like home. It is home." Turrentine committed to Ohio State in March 2020 and enrolled last summer before winding up at cornerback. Another Ohio State football defensive back has entered the transfer portal, with safety Andre Turrentine submitting his intent to transfer on Monday. An OSU spokesperson confirmed the development, first reported by On3.com. Turrentine is the fifth OSU defensive player to enter the portal since the middle of spring practice, following fellow safeties Lejond Cavazos and Bryson Shaw and defensive linemen Jacolbe Cowan and Noah Potter. Turrentine's departure brings Ohio State's known scholarship commitment for 2022 down to 85, which is the limit for the start of the season. Turrentine redshirted last season as a true freshman. Hannah, a Nashville, Tennessee, native, played in every game in 2021 on special teams but was down the depth chart at inside linebacker. Hannah first signed with Nebraska as part of the 2019 class out of Montgomery Bell Academy in Tennessee. Returning to UT in 2022 without Hooker could've been risky for Tillman. Building chemistry with a new quarterback may have lessened Tillman's impact and dropped his draft stock. Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker will have an encore. After a standout debut season, Hooker will use his final year of eligibility by returning to the Vols as a super senior in 2022. "Looking forward to many more. Let's run it back," Hooker posted on Twitter on Sunday. Even with coach Josh Heupel signing his first recruiting class Wednesday, Hooker's announcement represents the biggest news for UT's 2022 roster. The Virginia Tech graduate transfer climbed the UT record book in his first season, and he ranks third nationally in passer rating.

Hooker's return means the Vols may not miss a beat in 2022 from their frenetic pace in Heupel's first season, when they ranked ninth in scoring offense (38.8 ppg) and led FBS in plays per minute. And it also stabilizes UT's quarterback situation. Four-star prospect Tayven Jackson plans to sign with UT on Wednesday and enroll in January. He can now learn behind Hooker for one season rather than compete for the starting job with backup Joe Milton or potential transfers. - Knoxville News
