  10/16/20 - *Andre CiscoJr/2021, Syracuse, 6-0, 216 (DS#4 FS) + More +

Syracuse safety Andre Cisco, the first true freshman in program history to earn All-America honors, will forego his college eligibility and enter the 2021 NFL Draft. Cisco, who suffered a season-ending injury earlier this season, announced the news Tuesday evening. Cisco had been pegged as an early draft entry since earning All-America honors as a true freshman in 2018, when he tied for the national lead with seven interceptions. His knack for takeaways contined throughout his sophomore season and became his calling card throught his career, which abruptly ended moments before his 25th game on Sept. 26 against Georgia Tech when he collided with a teammate during warm-ups and suffered a lower-body injury. Cisco had surgery earlier Tuesday. "He doesn't have any pain or discomfort," his mother said Tuesday morning before the surgery. "He's walking. At the end of the day, that's what I'm happy about." Cisco finished his career with 13 career interceptions, tied with Walt Slovenski for fourth in school history. - The Post-Standard

Syracuse preseason All-American defensive standout Andre Cisco will miss the rest of the season, coach Dino Babers said Monday toward the end of his weekly news conference. Cisco was inserted as the rover in the Orange's new 3-3-5 defensive scheme and had 11 tackles and one interception in the two games he played. He was injured in a freak collision with a teammate in pregame warmups for the Georgia Tech game in the Carrier Dome just over two weeks ago and hadn't played since. Cisco, a junior safety from Long Island, entered the season with 12 interceptions, tops among returning players in the Football Bowl Subdivision. - AP College Football

  10/08/20 - *Andre CiscoJr/2021, Syracuse, 6-0, 216 (DS#4 FS) + More +

Andre Cisco's playing status for Saturday's game against Duke is unclear after he suffered a lower-body injury during pregame warm-ups last week. Coach Dino Babers would not give more details on his preseason All-American safety during his Monday news conference. "I've seen him every day," Babers said. "He's smiling. He's been excited. We'll see." Cisco, the nation's active leader in career interceptions, missed SU's 37-20 victory against Georgia Tech on Sept. 26 after colliding with a teammate before the game. Syracuse has had to dip deeper into its secondary throughout the first month of the season as senior safety Eric Coley has missed the past two games because of an injury. - The Post-Standard

  10/01/20 - DMarcus AdamsrSr/2024, Syracuse, 5-11, 180 (DS#191 WR) + More +

The news D'Marcus Adams had been waiting for finally came last week. After nearly eight months of waiting, Adams - a redshirt sophomore wide receiver who joined FAU from Florida State - got the call from Owls coach Willie Taggart that the NCAA approved his transfer waiver. His excitement was palpable during a teleconference with reporters Tuesday, four days after he made the announcement on social media that he'll be eligible to play this season after enrolling at Florida Atlantic in January. "When you get a call from the head coach, you know it's something serious," Adams said with a grin, with the news meaning he'll be eligible for the Owls' season and home opener versus Charlotte on Saturday. "When I got the call and I heard the news, I just started smiling. My cheeks were hurting so much." Adams once again has the opportunity to play for Taggart, who coached the 6-foot receiver during his two seasons with FSU. - Sun-Sentinel

  09/13/20 - Garrett ShraderrSr/2024, Syracuse, 6-5, 231 (DS#19 QB) + More +

The Shrader-copter has spun its way back onto the field. Mississippi State sophomore Garrett Shrader's playing time was in jeopardy from the moment K.J. Costello announced his decision to transfer to MSU from Stanford. True freshman Will Rogers enrolling early and playing well in preseason training camp didn't help Shrader's cause either. But coach Mike Leach has found a way to get Shrader, who started four games at quarterback for Mississippi State last year, back between the white lines - at slot receiver. Shrader infamously launched from the 24 yard line needing to make the 19 against Kansas State last year and was spun around before landing on the 20.

The play earned his teammates' respect. Now he'll have more opportunities for the Bulldogs to be bullish on him with the ball in his hands. Shrader scored two touchdowns in practice last week despite only lining up in the slot for three days. "He's looked impressive," Leach said. "He's got a sense of space and routes. He's tough to bring down. I've been kind of impressed with the way he's looked." Leach has a history of switching players' positions. Danny Amendola and Wes Welker played quarterback and running back, respectively, in high school before becoming two Texas Tech standouts at wide receiver. - The Clarion Ledger

  09/12/20 - Clarence LewisrSr/2025, Syracuse, 5-11, 200 (DS#76 CB) + More +

As much as freshman cornerback Clarence Lewis' inclusion as a possible starter on Notre Dame's first football depth chart of the season initially had the feel of a typo, the real mistake may be underestimating what Monday's snapshot could eventually turn into. "I think the sky's the limit," offered Ryan Daly, a linebackers coach at Lewis' high school, Mater Dei Prep in Middletown, N.J., and a full-time police officer who runs a side business training athletes. Day found creative ways to do so with Lewis around COVID-19 restrictions in the weeks leading up to the 6-foot-1, 180-pounder's mid-June arrival at Notre Dame. Irish head coach Brian Kelly didn't disagree with Day's sentiments in his Monday Zoom conference call with the media, in which he compared Lewis' early impressions and career trajectory to that of KeiVarae Russell.

Russell was a surprise starter at corner as a freshman on ND's 2012 team that produced historic defensive numbers and drove Notre Dame's national championship game run. A third-round NFL draft pick and No. 74 selection overall in the spring of 2016, he remains the highest-drafted Irish corner since Bobby Taylor went in the second round and No. 50 overall in 1995. "I don't know if Clarence has the same athletic ability in terms of raw athletic ability," Kelly said. "KeiVarae was really a gifted athlete. "Clarence has clearly demonstrated that as a true freshman, we could put him on the field at the same level or possibly even higher than the level that KeiVarae had to play as a true freshman. We did pretty good that year." - South Bend Tribune

  09/12/20 - Christopher BleichrSr/2024, Syracuse, 6-6, 312 (DS#67 OG) + More +

The NCAA has denied a transfer waiver seeking immediate eligibility for Syracuse offensive lineman Chris Bleich. That means the former Florida lineman, a redshirt sophomore, won’t be able to play this fall unless he wins an appeal. The 6-foot-6, 330-pound native of Hanover Township, Pennsylvania enrolled for the spring semester at Syracuse and was expected to give the Orange needed depth at guard. - AP College Football

  09/10/20 - Abdul AdamsrSr/2022, Syracuse, 5-11, 204 (DS#99 RB) + More +

Syracuse running backs Abdul Adams and Jarveon Howard have opted out of the 2020 season, a source told The Post-Standard/syracuse.com. Adams and Howard, who had been projected to be the team's top two running backs this year, have not practiced with the team throughout training camp. Jawhar Jordan and Markenzy Pierre will now lead the group. The news, first reported by The Athletic, does not come as a surprise. Coach Dino Babers has been cagey when asked about the status of Adams and Howard. Neither player was listed on the depth chart earlier this week. - The Post-Standard

Fellow junior Trill Williams heads to free safety after working primarily as a cornerback and nickelback as an underclassman, while redshirt freshman Garrett Williams has cracked the starting lineup at corner. - The Post-Standard
