  DJ Williams rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another in leading Southern Illinois to a 27-7 win over Murray State on Saturday night, sending the Racers to their 18th straight loss. The Salukis (6-3, 3-2 Missouri Valley Football Conference), ranked No. 17 in the FCS coaches' poll, took a 17-0 lead in the second quarter on two short Williams' touchdown runs and the first of two Paul Geelen field goals The Racers got their only touchdown on Jim Ogle's 5-yard pass to J'Kalon Carter in the final minute of the first half.

The Racers' (0-9, 0-5) 18-game skid is the longest active streak in Division I. They last won 30-28 over Mississippi Valley State on Sept. 14, 2024. They have lost 20 consecutive conference games dating to the 2023 season when its sole MVFC win came against Indiana State, 30-28, in the Racers' league debut. Williams threw for 168 yards, including a 40-yard score to Lem Wash. Edward Robinson rushed for 109 yards on 18 carries. Ogle threw for 124 yards with a TD and an interception.   DJ Williams threw two touchdown passes and Southern Illinois rolled to a 31-17 victory over Northern Iowa on Saturday. Williams completed 19 of 23 passes for 190 yards. Edward Robinson and Chandler Chapman combined for 15 carries for 167 yards rushing for Southern Illinois (5-3, 2-2 Missouri Valley Football Conference), which snapped a two-game skid. Chapman's 32-yard touchdown run capped the game's opening drive. Williams threw two 38-yard TD passes in the second quarter, one to Aidan Quinn and the other to Jay Jones to make it 24-0 at the break. Tae Marrero Jr. scored on a 81-yard punt return early in the third quarter for the Salukis, ranked 18th in the FCS coaches' poll.   WEEK 6 MISSOURI VALLEY FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: LB Shug Walker, Southern Illinois, Sr., Bethalto, Ill.,...Walker had a career-day in SIU's win over Indiana State on Saturday. He had a career-high 12 tackles, which was also tied for the most on the team. The senior from Bethalto, Ill., also had a season-high 2.0 TFL, one shy of a career-best mark.   DJ Williams passed for four touchdowns and ran for two more in accounting for 493 yards offense to lead Southern Illinois to a 59-31 victory over Southeast Missouri State on Saturday night. The senior was 18-of-26 passing for a career-high 342 yards and rushed for another career high of 151 yards on 10 carries. Vinson Davis III had a career-high 185 yards on eight catches with two scores, including a 69-yarder. Lashaun Lester added two rushing touchdowns, including one of 42 yards for SIU (3-1), ranked No. 11 in the FCS coaches' poll.

The teams combined 1,131 yards offense, SIU with 612 and SEMO 569, but the Redhawks (1-3) committed two turnovers that turned into touchdowns. The Salukis took off to a 31-7 halftime lead with Williams passing for a 17-yard TD to Davis and rushing for two scores, including a 75-yarder on the first play from scrimmage. SIU led 52-24 after the teams combined for 38 third-quarter points with Williams finishing the period with an 18-yard TD pass to Jay Jones. Jax Leatherwood was 33-of-47 passing for a career-high 422 yards with a touchdown and an interception for the Redhawks. Kalvin Gilbert had 125 yards receiving and Cam Pedro 105 with a TD.   Quarterback DJ Williams ran for 128 yards on just 14 carries and scored three touchdowns and No. 14 FCS Southern Illinois beat UT Martin 37-10 on Saturday. Williams, who completed 13-of-18 passes for 217 yards, jumpstarted Southern Illinois (2-1) when he ran it from the 4 for the game's first score three-and-a-half minutes in. After a Skyhawks turnover, Williams threw a 56-yard touchdown to Fabian McCray for a 14-0 lead.

UT Martin got on the board when Jase Bauer threw a 2-yard touchdown to Drake Martinez ending an 11-play, 69-yard drive that lasted almost six-and-a-half minutes. Paul Green made it 17-7 for the Salukis when he made a 28-yard field goal as time expired before halftime. After the break, Williams ran it in from the 13 early in the third and from the 12 late in the same quarter to make it 30-10. Chandler Chapman ended the scoring with a 44-yard touchdown run. Bauer completed 22 of 29 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown for UT Martin.   DJ Williams threw for 227 yards and three touchdowns and Southern Illinois trounced Division II Thomas More 49-3 on Saturday to open the season. Williams returned to action completing 17-for-23 passes. He threw touchdowns of 18, 17 and 17 yards to Jay Jones, Jackson Parker and Fabian McCray, respectively. Before that, Williams ran it in from the 10 on the game's opening drive which covered 69 yards in eight plays. Now a senior, his junior campaign came to an abrupt end last year due to a hand injury.

Before the injury, Williams had thrown for 571 yards, four touchdowns and a pair of interceptions while carrying the ball 39 times for 242 (6.2-yards per carry) and four touchdowns. Defensively, David Obadein came up with a 5-yard pick-6, intercepting Thomas More quarterback Griffin Scalf who was intending to find Demetrick Welch Jr. to his left. Obadein's scored made it 42-3 with 10:40 remaining. Quade Chatmon ran it in from the 3 to make it 49-3.
