  11/15/25 - Makai LemonJr/2027, Southern California, 5-11, 195 (DS#2 WR) + More +

Makai Lemon made 10 catches for 153 yards and a second-half touchdown, and No. 17 Southern California scored 19 unanswered points to keep its College Football Playoff hopes alive with a 26-21 victory over Iowa on Saturday. Jayden Maiava passed for 254 yards and Bryan Jackson rushed for two touchdowns for the Trojans (8-2, 6-1 Big Ten, No. 17 CFP), who faced their largest deficit of the season when they trailed 21-7 late in the second quarter at a rain-soaked Coliseum. USC mounted five consecutive scoring drives, capped by Jackson's go-ahead TD run with 13:36 to play. Mark Gronowski threw a touchdown pass, made a TD run and caught a scoring pass during the first half, but his Hawkeyes (6-4, 4-3, No. 21 CFP) got shut out in the second half of another heartbreaking loss to a ranked team. Iowa finally mounted a decent drive in the closing minutes, but turned it over on downs at the USC 29 with 1:59 to play. The Trojans were able to run out the clock after an Iowa assistant coach was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct with 1:25 left.

Steady rain had been falling on Los Angeles for more than 24 hours before kickoff, and it didn't stop during the wettest USC home game in recent memory. The Hawkeyes appeared to handle it better early on, with receiver Reece Vander Zee's 5-yard TD pass to Gronowski on a picture-perfect version of the Philly Special highlighting a strong first half. USC persevered and won thanks to another phenomenal game from star receivers Lemon and Ja'Kobi Lane, who had seven catches for 65 yards. Shrugging off the rain, run-first Iowa surprisingly threw the ball five times on its opening drive, capped by Dayton Howard's 2-yard TD catch from a scrambling Gronowski on fourth down. After USC failed to score in the first quarter at home for the first time all season, Gronowski rushed for a score early in the second. Jackson's 1-yard TD on a direct snap got USC on the board. Iowa then made another strong drive capped by the TD catch by Gronowski. He has caught a pass in all five seasons of his college football career, which began at South Dakota State. After Lemon's 12-yard TD catch, USC's Jahkeem Stewart intercepted a deflected pass in Iowa territory, leading to Jackson's second score. - USC/AP College Football

  11/08/25 - Makai LemonJr/2027, Southern California, 5-11, 195 (DS#2 WR) + More +

Makai Lemon had a touchdown catch and a scoring run while making 11 receptions for a career-high 161 yards, and No. 20 Southern California stayed in the College Football Playoff race with a 38-17 victory over Northwestern on Friday night. Jayden Maiava passed for 299 yards and hit Lemon and Ja'Kobi Lane for TDs as the Trojans (7-2, 5-1 Big Ten) remained unbeaten at the Coliseum this season with a persistent offensive performance featuring 482 total yards. That's the most allowed all season by the stingy Northwestern defense, which also hadn't allowed a 200-yard passer. King Miller rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown, and Maiava also rushed for a score. Lemon scored on a 4-yard jet sweep with 11:31 to play to put away back-to-back conference victories over Nebraska and Northwestern, keeping the Trojans in the national title conversation into mid-November for the first time since coach Lincoln Riley's first season in 2022. "We were excited about the challenge that this became," Riley said. "Flipping time zones, the tough battle in Lincoln just a few days ago, and then having to turn over and play a really good football team coming off a bye week. I just felt like these last two games would be a really important stretch for this season, and it's cool to see our guys respond." Preston Stone passed for 150 yards and Caleb Komolafe rushed for 118 yards and a score for the Wildcats (5-4, 3-3), who lost for just the second time in six games.

Griffin Wilde caught an early TD pass for Northwestern, which has never beaten USC in six meetings - the most recent in the 1996 Rose Bowl. USC got another spectacular performance from its impressive receiver duo. While the prolific Lemon put up 165 total yards, Lane had seven catches for 74 yards - and he put the Trojans up 28-14 midway through the third quarter when he juggled and controlled a one-handed TD catch under tight coverage from Fred Davis. "Whenever the ball is in the air, I just try to make the most out of the opportunity, because they don't come often," Lane said. After struggling to mount drives of significance while holding off Nebraska last week, USC opened its first home game in nearly a month with a 16-play drive culminating in Lemon's seventh TD catch of the season. Maiava had nine completions on the drive - the same number he managed all night in Lincoln. "I mean, we knew Nebraska was an outlier in their passing game," Wildcats coach David Braun said. "Nebraska had done a great job against USC, but you knew USC was going to find a way to respond. They're talented. Talented wide receivers. Quarterback plays at a very high level. Coach Riley is a great coach. And ultimately, we ended up playing on our heels most of the night." - USC/AP College Football

King Miller ran for 129 yards and the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter and No. 23 Southern California overcame its worst passing performance in seven years to beat Nebraska 21-17 on Saturday night. The Trojans (6-2, 4-1 Big Ten) came in with the nation's top passing offense, but Jayden Maiava was just 9 of 23 for 135 yards during Nebraska's first "Blackout" game. The Huskers dressed in all black, as did most of the juiced-up sellout crowd of more than 86,000. "You come to a place like this, against a good football team, and the night kick and crowd riled up, I'd be surprised if they have a better crowd any time this year than that tonight," USC coach Lincoln Riley said. "They were tremendous. And so, yeah, to overcome all that was great. Is it a sign of progress? Of course, it is now." The Cornhuskers (6-3, 3-3) lost quarterback Dylan Raiola to a right ankle injury in the third quarter and dropped their 29th straight game against a ranked opponent. Coach Matt Rhule didn't have an update on Raiola's status after the game.

USC was able to make up for its passing struggles with a run game that churned out 202 yards, with many of them coming on chunk plays. Miller had five of the Trojans' 10 runs of at least 10 yards. "Honestly, we were just getting back to square one, back to the basics, and just executed our basic plays," Miller said. "That's what we came out to do today. Honestly, it wasn't a surprise to us." The Trojans took their first lead early in the fourth. Jayden Maiava threw a 43-yard pass to Jaden Richardson on a flea-flicker and USC was at the Nebraska 6 after DeShon Singleton was called for pass interference. Miller ran in on the next play. The Huskers were pinned at their 4-yard line to start their final possession with 3:27 left. Freshman TJ Lateef, who replaced Raiola, scrambled for a first down. But on fourth-and-1 from his 27, Emmett Johnson slipped after he took a handoff and went down, and the Trojans ran out the clock. Johnson had 165 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries. - USC/AP College Football

Freshman walk-on King Miller rushed for 158 yards and a touchdown, and Jayden Maiava passed for 265 yards and two scores in Southern California's emphatic 31-13 victory over No. 15 Michigan on Saturday night. Makai Lemon made a spectacular 12-yard TD catch right before halftime for the Trojans (5-1, 3-1 Big Ten), who rebounded sharply from their heartbreaking, last-gasp loss at Illinois two weeks ago. Despite playing without two starting offensive linemen, USC won with hard-nosed Big Ten football that included 224 yards rushing - most from tailbacks far down the depth chart - against the nation's seventh-ranked run defense. Bishop Fitzgerald made two interceptions to highlight a strong effort by USC's defense.

Bryce Underwood passed for 207 yards and two touchdowns for the Wolverines (4-2, 2-1), whose three-game winning streak ended in their school's first visit to the Coliseum since 1957. Michigan scored just once on its first six full drives into the fourth quarter, but the Wolverines' defense made two red-zone takeaways to keep them from getting blown out before Andrew Marsh made a 69-yard TD catch with 9:17 left, trimming USC's lead to 24-13. But backup tailback Bryan Jackson romped in for a 29-yard TD with 4:21 left to seal USC's first victory over Michigan since the Rose Bowl in January 2007. These historic college football powerhouses have beaten each other at home in their first two seasons as Big Ten rivals. Both teams' star running backs got hurt in the first half, with USC's Waymond Jordan and Michigan's Justice Haynes both missing the second half. Miller seized his opportunity with the first three tailbacks on the Trojans' depth chart all sidelined by injury, ripping off a 49-yard run and a 47-yard run to extend second-half drives. He became the first walk-on to score a touchdown for USC since 1994 with a 15-yard run in the third quarter. - USC/AP College Football

Jayden Maiava and the Southern California offense appeared to be rolling to another comfortable victory when a scary injury for Michigan State and a series of big mistakes by the Trojans tightened up their late-night meeting once again. The No. 25 Trojans shook it all off and comfortably finished off the biggest challenge yet to their unbeaten start. Maiava threw three touchdown passes and rushed for two more scores, and Makai Lemon made a 40-yard TD catch and ran for another score in USC's 45-31 victory on Saturday night. Maiava passed for 236 yards, Waymond Jordan rushed for 157 yards and Lemon had 127 yards receiving in a fourth straight comfortable victory for USC (4-0, 2-0 Big Ten), which is off to its best start since coach Lincoln Riley's first season in 2022.

Tanook Hines and Walker Lyons also caught TD passes as the Trojans surged away near halftime and capably handled a late rally by the Spartans (3-1, 0-1) to win the new conference rivals' first meeting since 1990. "That was a game that had some unique twists and turns," Riley said. "I thought we were controlling the game, (and then) obviously we had a couple of errors there in the third quarter with the penalties...and the turnover that allowed them to come back and capture some momentum. But I thought our team responded and separated back in a really good way. A lot to learn from. A lot that's got to continue to get better, but if you're learning lessons as you win, it's hard not to be excited." Long Beach native Aidan Chiles threw three touchdown passes and rushed for another score for the Spartans, who fell short of only their second 4-0 start in the past decade. Chiles accounted for 243 of the Spartans' 333 total yards. While USC's offense marched up and down the field and didn't punt until the final minute, the defense made repeated mistakes in coverage and in discipline, accounting for most of the Trojans' 10 penalties. - USC/AP College Football

Jayden Maiava and Waymond Jordan each had touchdown runs Saturday, and 360-pound defensive tackle Jamaal Jarrett rambled 70 yards on an interception return for a socre to to lead Southern California past Purdue 33-17 after kickoff was delayed for 3 hours, 5 minutes because of weather. The Trojans (3-0, 1-0 Big Ten) got their first win in the Eastern time zone since September 2012 at Syracuse, ending a nine-game skid - albeit with an unexpected 6:45 p.m. EDT start that coach Lincoln Riley joked at halftime was more like West Coast time. "I think this year we have a little chip on our shoulder when it comes to road games,” said receiver Ja'Kobi Lane, who had three catches for 115 yards. "We know what kind of mindset we have to have in the fourth quarter and it's not to settle.” Maiava finished 17 of 28 with 282 yards on a day the highest-scoring team in the Football Bowl Subdivision was held to a season-low point total. Jordan ran 18 times for 77 yards. Eli Sanders had 10 carries for 75 yards.

Purdue (2-1, 0-1) lost for the first time under new coach Barry Odom, who coached Maiava two years ago at UNLV. Ryan Browne was 24 of 39 with 305 yards, one TD and three interceptions while scoring the first rushing TD against the Trojans this season on a 34-yard run when he scooped up an errant, bouncing lateral and scooted down the sideline. USC took at 10-0 lead on Maiava's 3-yard TD run to open the second quarter and extended the margin to 17-3 on Jordan's 6-yard run late in the first half. The Trojans started the second half with two field goals, then got Jarrett's to make it 30-10 late in the third quarter. Purdue couldn't recover. "A good team and you've got to step into the ring and into the arena and be ready for them to swing,” Odom said. "And we kept swinging, so we'll learn from today in a lot of different ways.” - USC/AP College Football

  09/06/25 - Makai LemonJr/2027, Southern California, 5-11, 195 (DS#2 WR) + More +

Makai Lemon made touchdown catches of 62 and 74 yards in the first quarter, Jayden Maiava passed for 412 yards and four scores, and Southern California trounced former coach Clay Helton's Georgia Southern 59-20 Saturday night. Waymond Jordan rushed for 167 yards and a touchdown, and Ja'Kobi Lane made an exceptional one-handed TD catch as the Trojans (2-0) racked up 755 total yards. Walker Lyons also caught a TD pass, while Eli Sanders ran for two scores. Helton spent parts of eight seasons as the head coach at USC, winning a Rose Bowl and a Pac-12 title. He also failed to achieve the national championship contention demanded of USC coaches before he was fired two games into the 2021 season. The Coliseum did the rare honor of welcoming Helton by name while he led Georgia Southern onto the famed field Saturday, although he was greeted mostly with boos.

Camden Brown caught two TD passes in the first half for the Eagles, who have begun Helton's fourth season with road losses to Fresno State and USC by a combined 101-34. In his second game at USC, juco transfer Jordan rushed for more yards than any tailback in Lincoln Riley's four-year tenure. Maiava's 412 yards passing were the 14th-most in USC history, boosted by four pass plays longer than 50 yards. But Georgia Southern led less than two minutes after the opening kickoff when Jordan fumbled and Brown caught a 32-yard TD pass from Weston Bryan on the first career throw by the freshman quarterback. USC answered with that one-handed TD catch by Lane, who hauled in Maiava's throw despite defensive pass interference. Less than two minutes later, Lemon turned a short reception into a 62-yard TD romp through the Eagles' secondary. Jordan made a 36-yard TD run early in the second half. King Miller made a 41-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. - USC/AP College Football

Jayden Maiava passed for 295 yards and two touchdowns in the first half, and Southern California had its highest-scoring game since 1930 in a 73-13 victory over Missouri State on Saturday night. Husan Longstreet completed all nine of his passes and rushed for two TDs in the touted freshman quarterback's second-half debut for USC, which got off to an impressive offensive start to Lincoln Riley's fourth season with 602 total yards.

Nine players scored 10 touchdowns for USC, which hadn't racked up this many points since a 74-0 victory over California 95 years ago. The game was the Trojans' highest-scoring season opener since a 76-0 win over UCLA in 1929. Lake McRee caught a 64-yard touchdown pass and Eli Sanders turned a screen pass into a 73-yard TD during USC's 42-point first half. Waymond Jordan, Bryan Jackson and King Miller rushed for touchdowns for the Trojans, who scored on 10 of their first 11 drives and didn't punt. USC hadn't scored 70 points in a game since its 2005 opener against Arkansas. Jacob Clark passed for 147 yards and hit Tristian Gardner for a 33-yard TD for Missouri State, which is joining the FBS this season in Conference USA. - USC/AP College Football
