The man who scored Nebraska's first touchdown of the 2022 season has rejoined the team for winter workouts in 2023. Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda, who entered the transfer portal in October, withdrew his name and will take part in spring camp, a program source confirmed Monday. He left the team having caught five passes for 120 yards, primarily in the season-opening loss to Northwestern.

NU removed Garcia-Castaneda from its 2022 roster - a sign of a complete break with the program. That was one staff ago. NU coach Matt Rhule's staff is in place, and Garcia-Castaneda rejoins a wide receiver room that no longer has record-breaking receiver Trey Palmer but added two transfers (Baylor's Josh Fleek and Virginia's Billy Kemp) and two surprising returnees (Garcia-Castaneda and Zavier Betts). - Lincoln Journal Star

Mark Gronowski passed to Jaxon Janke for the go-ahead touchdown and South Dakota State scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to break away from Holy Cross for a 42-21 win on Saturday in the FCS quarterfinals. The top-seeded Jackrabbits (12-1), on a school-record 12-game win streak after losing to Iowa 7-3 in their opener, will play fourth-seeded Montana State in the semifinals. The Bobcats beat South Dakota State 31-17 in the semifinals in Bozeman, Mont., last year. This year's semifinal will be in Brookings. The eighth-seeded Crusaders (12-1) gave the Jackrabbits a tough test through three quarters behind quarterback Matthew Sluka, who rushed for a career-high 212 yards on 26 carries.

It was Sluka's 36-yard run that set up Peter Oliver's 1-yard TD plunge to tie the game at 21-all. But the Jackrabbits dominated the fourth quarter. "We had some big pass plays, and then Isaiah Davis is a heck of a running back, the fat guys up front got excited about running the ball and we played our kind of football. Holy Cross is a really good team. This is an exciting win for us," Jackrabbits coach John Stiegelmeier said in an on-field interview with ESPN after the game. Gronowski passed for 177 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 47 more yards and a TD. Davis had 154 yards on 20 carries with a score, his eighth straight game with a rushing TD and his seventh game this season with 100-plus yards. - South Dakota State/AP College Football

Isaiah Davis ran for two touchdowns and top-seeded South Dakota State defeated Delaware 42-6 on Saturday in a second-round FCS playoff game that ended with just over a minute to go after Blue Hens quarterback Ryan O'Connor was carted off the field. O'Connor was beginning his slide after a 10-yard gain when he was hit. An unnecessary roughness penalty was called on Tucker Large, and after O'Connor was taken off the field the game was ended. A post on a Delaware football's official Twitter feed reported that "O'Connor was responsive and moving all of his extremities upon leaving the field and is being examined further." O'Connor was playing in relief of starter Nolan Henderson, who was hurt in the first quarter.

South Dakota State, on a school-record 11-game winning streak, will play eighth-seeded Holy Cross in the quarterfinals. The Jackrabbits (11-1) scored touchdowns on their first three possessions, each on drives of 70-yards plus. Davis scored from 1 and 10 yards out and Mark Gronowski added a 1-yarder for a 21-6 halftime lead. Armar Johnson scored on a 2-yard run, Matthew Durrance on a fumble recovery after a bad punt snap into the end zone and Jadon Janke had a 4-yard TD catch, all in the third quarter for a 42-6 lead. Davis rushed for 104 yards on 14 carries. Gronowski had 131 yards passing and 73 more on the ground. South Dakota State outgained Delaware 353-192, with 222 of the Jackrabbits' yards coming on the ground. O'Connor threw for 104 yards for the Blue Hens (8-5), whose only scoring came on Brandon Ratcliffe field goals. - South Dakota State/AP College Football
