South Alabama running back La'Damian Webb was at practice with his teammates on Saturday morning, less than a week after announcing he will return for a second season with the Jaguars in 2023. Webb has rushed for 1,014 yards and 14 touchdowns this season, despite missing one game and parts of two others with various injuries. He seriously considered jumping to pro ball, but ultimately announced on Tuesday that he will play a fifth season of college football next fall. "I had to just think about it," said Webb, who joined South Alabama as a junior-college transfer this January. "I know I wanted to do better this year and had some games where I was hurt, so I didn't get to play a whole, complete season. I thought it would be best if I come back and my family thought it would be best for me to come back."

Webb played in 2019 Jones (Miss.) College, then spent the 2020 season at Florida State. He went back to Jones in 2021 and was an NJCAA All-American before signing with South Alabama. With Webb set to return next season, the Jaguars should bring back close to 20 starters between the offense and defense. He said he's hoping the Jaguars can sustain the success of 2022, when they are 10-2 heading into the Dec. 21 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl vs. Western Kentucky. "It feels great," Webb said. "We've got some work to do - a lot of work to do. You We'll focus on that next year, just continue to get better throughout the year." - Birmingham News

South Alabama running back La'Damian Webb announced Tuesday he will return for the 2023 season. Webb, a fourth-year junior, has rushed for 1,014 yards and a school-record 13 touchdowns in 11 games this season. He had been considering turning pro, but posted his decision on Instagram, writing "Let's run it back one more year with the gang." Webb, a former Mr. Football at Beauregard High School in Opelika, transferred to South Alabama in 2022 from Jones (Miss.) College. He was an NJCAA All-American in 2021, when he led the nation in rushing yards per game. Webb signed with Mississippi State out of high school, but did not qualify academically. He played at Jones in 2019, then at Florida State in 2020 (rushing for 369 yards and three touchdowns) before entering the transfer portal. - Birmingham News

Carter Bradley threw three touchdown passes and South Alabama held Old Dominion scoreless in the second half to rally for its fifth-straight win, 27-20 win on Saturday. South Alabama needed Troy to lose Arkansas State in a late game to win the West Division and advance to the conference title game. Old Dominion's Jason Henderson had 18 tackles, giving him 186 for the season, a total only exceeded by the 193 of Lawrence Flugence of Texas Tech in 2012 and the 191 of Luke Kuechly of Boston College a year earlier. Henderson had double-figure tackles in every game - with a high of 22 - except for getting just two last week before suffering an injury. The Jaguars (10-2, 7-1 Sun Belt) trailed the Monarchs (3-9, 2-6) 20-13 at halftime as Hayden Wolff threw a pair of touchdown passes for Old Dominion.

Then Bradley engineered a pair of long touchdown drives with an interception, the only turnover of the game, between them. First the Jags went 83 yards in 12 plays with Jalen Wayne hauling in a 30-yard scoring pass. After his pick, Bradley found DJ Thomas-Jones for a two-yard score to end a 15-play, 69 yard drive. After scoring on four of five possessions in the first half, Old Dominion only got the ball four times in the second, punting on the first three and giving up the ball on downs at the South Alabama 41 with 1:46 to play on the last. The Monarchs only had 69 of their 381 yards on the second half. South Alabama had 398 yards but kept the ball more than 10 minutes longer. La'Damian Webb had 74 yards rushing for South Alabama to surpass 1,000 for the season. - South Alabama/AP College Football

  11/05/22 - Zach PyronrJr/2027, South Alabama, 6-3, 230 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Zach Pyron threw a touchdown pass and ran for a score in his first career start to lift Georgia Tech to a 28-27 victory over Virginia Tech on Saturday. Pyron's 9-yard touchdown run with 3:30 remaining was the game winner, as the Yellow Jackets (4-5, 3-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) rallied from a 27-16 deficit to snap a two-game losing streak. Virginia Tech (2-7, 1-5), which has lost six straight games, turned the ball over three times in the fourth quarter, two of which led to Georgia Tech touchdowns.

The Hokies wasted a chance to put the game away early in the fourth. They led by 11 and were inside the Georgia Tech 10, but Keshawn King fumbled, and Georgia Tech recovered. That led to a 56-yard touchdown pass from Pyron to Nate McCollum with 9:02 remaining that pulled the Yellow Jackets to 27-23 after they failed on the two-point conversion. Pyron accounted for 319 yards in place of injured starter Jeff Sims, who missed his second consecutive game with a sprained foot. Pyron completed 19 of 32 for 253 yards with a touchdown and an interception, and he rushed for 66 yards. Grant Wells threw for 164 yards and rushed for 32 yards and a touchdown for Virginia Tech. - Georgia Tech/AP College Football

South Alabama linebacker Quentin Wilfawn is out for the season with a neck injury, coach Kane Wommack said Monday. Wilfawn, a senior from Oxford, Miss., was injured during the Jaguars' 32-31 loss at UCLA on Sept. 17 and has played in just one game since. Since he has played in only four games this season, he could redshirt and return next year, Wommack said. "Quentin Wilfawn will be out for the remainder of the season with a neck issue that's going to require surgery," Wommack said. "He will get that done at a later date. Right now, based off of the games that he has played, he will have eligibility for the 2023 season, which is great."

The 6-foot-1, 240-pound Wilfawn joined the South Alabama program as a junior-college transfer in 2020, and made 12 tackles in seven games that season. He played in 11 games with three starts in 2021, finishing with 45 tackles. Wilfawn was the Jaguars' leading tackler this season at the time of his injury, and finishes with 18 tackles. His starting role has been filled in recent weeks by Trey Kiser, who has 40 tackles, five tackles for loss and two sacks. - Birmingham News
