South Alabama on Saturday added its second SEC offensive line transfer for the 2023 season. Jordan Davis, who spent the last two seasons at South Carolina, announced Saturday he was headed to Mobile. He will have three years of eligibility remaining with the Jaguars. Davis (6-foot-5, 300 pounds) did not see any action with the Gamecocks the last two seasons. He was rated a 3-star prospect out of Creekside High School in Fairburn, Ga., in the 2021 signing class.

South Alabama backup quarterback Desmond Trotter plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, he announced Saturday. Trotter, a redshirt junior, was the Jaguars' primary starting quarterback in 2020 before backing up Jake Bentley in 2021 and Carter Bradley this past season. He played in 27 games and started 16 in his South Alabama career. A Birmingham native, Trotter has one season of college eligibility remaining as a graduate transfer. In his announcement that he was entering the portal, he left open the possibility that he could return to South Alabama in 2023.

Trotter, who played his high school football at Shades Valley, is the grandson of Alabama and NFL great Ozzie Newsome. He redshirted as a true freshman at South Alabama in 2018, then played in seven games with four starts in 2019. Trotter started all 10 games in which he played in 2020, throwing for 1,917 yards and 11 touchdowns with four interceptions. He also started two games late in the 2021 season while Bentley was injured, but was exclusively a backup in 2022. - Birmingham News
