Redshirt freshman Carson Baker threw for the go-ahead score in his first career start and Tariq Thompson had a strip-sack fumble recovery and an interception for San Diego State, which beat BYU 13-3 Saturday night in a matchup of former conference rivals. SDSU (9-3) rebounded from a loss at Hawaii that cost it the Mountain West Conference West Division title and a spot in the league's championship game. BYU (7-5) had its five-game winning streak snapped and lost to SDSU for the first time since 2005. The Cougars had beaten the Aztecs six straight times, including in their final regular-season matchup, in 2010 before leaving the MWC and going independent. BYU beat SDSU 23-6 in their most recent encounter, in the 2012 Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego.

The teams didn't come close to recreating their wild, high-scoring matchups in the wacky Western Athletic Conference. Ty Detmer famously rallied BYU from a 28-point third-quarter deficit for a 52-52 tie in 1991 at San Diego, throwing for 599 yards and six touchdowns. Baker, who played at nearby Helix High, had never taken a college snap before getting the start in place of senior Ryan Agnew, who's out with an injured left calf. Baker completed 19 of 24 passes for 172 yards and a 25-yard scoring pass to tight end Daniel Bellinger. BYU's Zach Wilson threw for 316 yards, completing 31 of 53, but overall had a tough night against SDSU stingy defense. He was intercepted twice and lost one fumble. - San Diego State/AP College Football

Ryan Agnew completed 33 of 47 passes for 323 yards, a touchdown and an interception, and San Diego State beat Fresno State 17-7 on Friday night. Agnew is the first San Diego State passer to eclipse 300 yards since Quinn Kaehler threw for 326 yards against Air Force on Nov. 21, 2014. The Aztecs (8-2, 5-2 Mountain West Conference) scored the final 17 points after the Bulldogs (4-6, 2-4) opened the scoring on Ronnie Rivers' 3-yard TD run in the first quarter. Chase Jasmin ran for a 2-yard TD later in the first quarter, Matt Araiza kicked a 22-yard field goal to give the Aztecs the lead in the second quarter and Jasmin caught a 2-yard TD pass from Agnew to cap the scoring early in the fourth. Jasmin had 71 yards from scrimmage and Jesse Matthews caught eight passes for 119 yards. Rivers ran for 47 yards for the Bulldogs. - AP College Football

SDSU's offense hasn't made much noise this year, but that's OK because the defense ranks among the national leaders in nearly every category, including third in rushing defense (69.9 yards), fourth in rushing yards allowed per carry (2.4), sixth in first downs allowed (118), tied for sixth in total touchdowns allowed (13), eighth in scoring defense (14.1), 12th in total defense (283.5), tied for 14th in passing touchdowns allowed (8) and 25th in passing efficiency rating (115.6). Senior linebacker Kyahva Tezino has been a force during the four-game winning streak, with 39 tackles, three tackles for losses and seven quarterback hurries. - AP College Football

Ethan Dedeaux had a 49-yard catch-and-run touchdown for the first of 17 unanswered points to start the game and San Diego State hung on to beat UNLV 20-17 on Saturday night. SDSU led 20-10 at the end of the third quarter but UNLV used a 12-play, 77-yard drive to get within three points with 5:57 to go. SDSU went three-and-out and UNLV went on another double-digit-play drive but Daniel Gutierrez's 42-yard field-goal attempt hit the post. Ryan Agnew passed for 185 yards with one touchdown and one interception for San Diego State (7-1, 4-1 Mountain West). The Aztecs also scored on special teams when Trenton Thompson blocked a punt and Caden McDonald recovered it in the end zone.   Juwan Washington and Chase Jasmin each ran for a touchdown, Kaegun Williams had a 95-yard kickoff return for a score, and San Diego State beat San Jose State 27-17 on Saturday to become bowl eligible for the 10th consecutive season. Washington finished with 16 carries for 70 yards and Jasmin had six for 70, including a 50-yard touchdown that made it 27-10 late in the third quarter. Williams took the opening kickoff and raced untouched to the end zone. Kairee Robinson's 15-yard touchdown catch tied it about 90 seconds later before Matt Araiza made field goals of 41 and 27 yards in the second quarter to make it 13-7 at halftime.

Matt Mercurio's 25-yard field goal capped a 14-play, 68-yard drive by San Jose State (3-4, 1/3 Mountain West) to open the second half but Washington scored on a 1-yard run before Jasmin's TD gave the Aztecs a 17-point lead going into the fourth quarter. San Diego State (6-1, 3-1) has won three straight overall and seven in a row against the Spartans. The Aztecs limited San Jose State to just 54 yards rushing and dominated the time-of-possession battle 40:22 to 19:38.   Ryan Agnew threw two touchdown passes, including a 12-yarder to Daniel Bellinger with 2:09 to play, and San Diego State beat Wyoming 26-22 on Saturday night. Agnew completed 21 of 32 passes for 209 yards. Juwan Washington had 83 yards rushing and a score on 21 carries and added a 15-yard TD reception for San Diego State (5-1, 2-1 Mountain West). Trailing 22-19, Agnew led the Aztecs - who had just 98 total yards in the first half - on a nine-play, 76-yard drive. On third-and-6, he hit Bellinger for a 28-yard gain to the 26 and then converted a third-and-1 with a 3-yard run to the 14.

Two plays later, Agnew eluded a would-be tackler as he was flushed from the pocket, rolled to his left and, as he was hit, found Bellinger in the end zone for the go-ahead touchdown. Bellinger, a sophomore tight end, went into that drive with four career receptions - none on Saturday. Wyoming (4-2, 1-1) then moved to near midfield before Sean Chambers took a deep shot that was intercepted by Luq Barcoo with 1:20 remaining. Barcoo has five interceptions this season, including three - on consecutive defensive snaps - against Colorado State last Saturday. Chambers was 5-of-14 passing for 109 yards with a touchdown and interception and added 13 carries for 49 yards and two TDs for the Cowboys. - San Diego State/AP College Football
