  Judd Erickson threw three touchdown passes and San Diego rolled to a 28-3 victory over Presbyterian on Saturday. San Diego (3-3, 2-1 Pioneer Football League) grabbed a 7-0 lead after one quarter on Joshua Hong's 28-yard interception return. Erickson extended the Toreros' advantage to 14-0 at halftime with a 9-yard scoring toss to Derek Kline. Erickson hooked up with Michael Carner for a 37-yard touchdown in the third quarter after a lengthy weather delay, and added a 5-yard touchdown toss to Vance Jefferson in the fourth to cap the scoring. Parker Maddrey's third-quarter field goal was the lone score for the Blue Hose (1-6, 0-4). - AP College Football

  Hunter Nichols returned a kickoff 98 yards early in the fourth quarter and San Diego turned back Drake 22-10 on Saturday. The Bulldogs closed within 15-10 with a 14-yard touchdown run by Ian Corwin one play after teammate Zach Drummond recovered a muffed punt. That's when Nichols took the ensuing kickoff straight ahead, avoided a couple tacklers and then cut to the left sideline and raced to the end zone. The Toreros (2-3 1-1 Pioneer Football League) had built their lead with a short Chris Childers runs, a pair of Aidan Lehman field goals and Jagger Pagano's sack for a safety. Childers finished with 70 yards rushing. Corwin was just 21-of-52 passing for 239 yards with an interception and four sacks for the Bulldogs (0-6, 0-3). - AP College Football

  Judd Erickson passed for 228 yards and two touchdowns and San Diego steamrolled Division III-member La Verne 58-0 in a season opener on Saturday night. Two short touchdown runs and Erickson's 59-yard scoring strike to Vance Jefferson helped the Toreros take a 27-0 lead at halftime. Erickson hit Jefferson for a 15-yard TD early in the third quarter for a 34-0 advantage. San Diego backup quarterbacks Grant Sergent and Re-al Mitchell got into the scoring act in the final period. Sergent connected with Josh Heverly for a 12-yard TD and Mitchell and Dylan Lawson hooked up for a 22-yard score. Chris Childers rushed 17 times for 92 yards and a TD for the Toreros. Jefferson finished with four catches for 107 yards. Miguel Aguero Jr. completed 15 of 34 passes for 90 yards with two interceptions for La Verne.   Mason Randall threw for three touchdowns and San Diego defeated Stetson 41-16 on Saturday to gain a share of its conference-tying 12th Pioneer League title. Toreros (7-4, 7-1) tied with Davidson atop the Pioneer League though Davidson receives the conference's automatic bid to the FCS playoffs, having handed San Diego its lone league loss. San Diego, which won its seventh straight game, built a 27-0 halftime lead on its way to its ninth victory without a loss in its series with the Hatters (3-7, 2-6). Randall was 21 of 31 for 337 yards. Christian Brown had six catches for 109 yards and a score. Ja'seem Reed and Vance Jefferson also caught TD passes. Emilio Martinez rushed for 132 yards on 17 carries and a score and Terrence Smith also had a rushing TD. Justin Agner threw for 195 yards with an interception for Stetson.   Mason Randall threw for one touchdown and ran for the decisive score, the San Diego defense allowed just 57 total yards and the Toreros rallied to defeat Valparaiso 21-14 on Saturday. Randall's 15-yard run and subsequent two-point conversion pass with 1:15 remaining in the fourth quarter gave the Toreros (5-4, 5-1 Pioneer Football League) their first lead of the game. Back in the first quarter, it was Randall's pass that was intercepted by Jamauri Jackson and returned 83 yards for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead for Valparaiso (2-6, 2-3). San Diego's defense made the comeback possible, holding the Beacons to 14 yards over the final three quarters.

The Beacons' Ben Nimz completed 2 of 16 passes for 2 yards and was sacked four times. Ben Washington carried 15 times for 64 yards, 28 coming on a touchdown run that gave Valpo a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. After Jackson's pick-6, Randall hit Emilio Martinez for a 45-yard touchdown pass and Brandon Eickert kicked two field goals to draw the Toreros within 14-13 at halftime, a score that stood until deep into the fourth quarter. - San Diego/AP College Football

  Mason Randall threw for three touchdowns and San Diego beat Presbyterian 69-28 on Saturday as Dale Lindsey became the winningest coach in Toreros history. Lindsey broke a tie with Brian Fogerty with his 72nd victory, coming in his ninth season at San Diego (4-4, 4-1 Pioneer Football League), which won its fourth straight game. The Blue Hose (2-5, 0-4) came in with the nation's second-best yards passing per game average at 438.7 but also giving up over 48 points per game. They threw for another 412 yards against the Toreros but fell to their fifth straight loss. Ren Hefley was 31 of 43 for 390 yards and four touchdowns but threw two interceptions. San Diego had a 490-486 edge in total offense, splitting its yards almost even between the pass and run. Randall was 23-of-28 passing and also had a short touchdown run. Terrence Smith rushed for two touchdowns. The Toreros jumped out to a 23-0 lead, were up 35-14 at the break and 62-21 after three quarters. - AP College Football

  Mason Randall threw three touchdowns passes, San Diego scored 45 consecutive points after the first quarter, and the Toreros defeated Butler 52-21 on Saturday. Randall completed 24 of 29 passes for 257 yards and the Toreros (2-4, 2-1 Pioneer League) added 152 rushing yards for 409 yards of offense. Butler (2-4, 0-3) led 14-7 after one quarter, then Randall's 22-yard touchdown pass to Vance Jefferson tied the game at 14 by halftime. The Toreros exploded in the second half, scoring 17 points in the third quarter and 21 in the fourth as the defense scored two touchdowns and set up a third. In the third quarter, Logan Gingg blocked a punt and Chase Lyons recovered at the 5-yard line to set up a short touchdown run by Rhyle Hanson. Michael Hawkins (24 yards) and Zamir Wallace (53 yards) returned interceptions for touchdowns in the fourth quarter. - AP College Football

  Kama Kamaka's 38-yard return of a fumble and Brandon Eickert's second field goal with four minutes remaining capped a run of 13 straight points to give San Diego a 27-24 victory over St. Thomas on Saturday. Trailing 24-14 late in the third quarter, Eickert booted a 37-yard field goal and less than two minutes later Kamaka ripped away the ball from running back Tom Loeffler and scored. Judd Erickson threw for 154 yards and two touchdowns for the Toreros (1-4, 1-1 Patriot League) but also threw three interceptions, two returned for scores. Mason Randall threw for another 117 yards for San Diego. Michael Carner had 110 yards receiving and a touchdown. Joe Hird had a 10-yard pick-6 and Jonathan Bunce returned an interception 22 yards for another TD for the Tommies (2-2, 1-1). San Diego survived those scores and also a 1-of-12 performance on third-down conversions with the help of two interceptions by Hunter Nichols of Cade Sexauer and Kamaka's fumble recovery. - AP College Football

  The Wuerffel Trophy, College Football's Premier Award for Community Service, today announced its 93-player watch list. Temple quarterback Re-al Mitchell was among the group of student-athletes nominated for the prestigious award. Throughout last season, Mitchell used his time off the field wisely, participating in a variety of community service events totaling over three dozen hours.

Mitchell used this time to develop a relationship with Jaidyn from TEAM IMPACT, as well as participate in physical education classes with elementary school children with the Camden Promise Academy. Among many other community service events, Mitchell worked in conjunction with the Temple Police to service a block around campus as part of a cleanup effort. Another of the ways he's trying to help is by introducing his teammates to better mental health awareness. He has started regular meetings under the acronym R.A.I.S.E. - Raising Awareness in Student-athletes' mental health Everywhere. - Temple Football

Valpo is projected to finish fifth based on a preseason survey of the league's head coaches.
