  Quarterback Cade Sexauer ran for two touchdowns, Yusef Leak returned a blocked field goal for a touchdown, and St. Thomas of Minnesota won the Pioneer Football League championship with a 27-13 victory over Butler on Saturday. The Tommies won the league championship in their second year as a Division I member. They are not yet eligible for the FCS playoffs. Sexauer opened the scoring with a 2-yard run and Leak later raced 66 yards with the blocked kick to give St. Thomas a 14-0 first-quarter lead. The Tommies led 14-0 at halftime and added two Stephan Shagen field goals and a 1-yard Sexauer TD run in the second half. Shawn Shipman had 99 yards rushing for the Tommies (10-1, 8-0), who have won 10 in a row. Bret Bushka completed 13 of 29 passes for 123 yards with two touchdowns for the Bulldogs (7-4, 5-3).   Shawn Shipman carried it 31 times for 168 yards and a touchdown and St. Thomas (Minn.) rushed for 274 yards in a 23-0 victory over Stetson on Saturday to clinch a share of the Pioneer League championship. St. Thomas (9-1, 7-0) won its ninth straight since a 44-13 opening loss at Southern Utah, and 37 straight regular-season games at home. Cade Sexauer threw it across the field to a wide-open Matthew Rink for a 10-yard touchdown and a 23-0 lead.

Sexauer added 13 carries for 60 yards and a score for St. Thomas (9-1, 7-0), which plays Butler next Saturday. Sexauer also was 8-of-17 passing for 123 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. The St. Thomas defense intercepted Brady Meitz two times and held Stetson to 11 first downs and 113 total yards.   NOV 7 PIONEER FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Grif Wurtz, St. Thomas, (Jr. DB, Chaska, Minnesota),...Wurtz set the tone with a 79-yard scoop-and-score for the game's first touchdown in St. Thomas' 34-7 PFL victory, Saturday. Following a Valparaiso interception and return inside the Tommies' 20-yard line, the defense forced a fumble and Wurtz picked up the loose ball and scampered 79 yards for the game-opening touchdown.   Grif Wurtz returned a fumble 79 yards for a touchdown and Owen Kanzler went 89 yards for a kickoff-return score and St. Thomas pulled away from Valparaiso 34-7 on Saturday for its eighth-straight win. The Tommies (8-1, 6-0 Pioneer Football League) had three touchdown plays of at least 50 yards. Wurtz opened the scoring with his big play and Cade Sexauer produced the next two scores, a 9-yard run that made it 14-0 at halftime and a 50-yard scoring pass to Andrew McElroy early in the third quarter. Aaron Dawson's 1-yard plunge put the Beacons (4-5, 3-3) on the scoreboard midway through the third quarter to get within 20-7, but it was quickly answered when Kanzler, a true freshman touching the ball for just the sixth time in his career, took the kickoff up the middle to midfield before finding the end zone down the right sideline. - AP College Football

  Cade Sexauer threw for three touchdowns and ran for a fourth and Andrew McElroy scored three times to lead St. Thomas to a 49-42 win over San Diego on Saturday, the seventh-straight win for the Tommies. Judd Erickson, who threw for 361 yards and three touchdowns, threw four straight incompletions after driving the Toreros from their 27 to St. Thomas 37, the last coming with 15 seconds to play. Sexauer ran 14-yards for a touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter to break a 35-35 tie. On the next possession for the Tommies (7-1, 5-0 Pioneer Football League), Sexauer connected with Wesley Juszczak for a 41-yard score.

San Diego (3-4, 2-2) responded with a 79-yard drive, capped by Erickson's 17-yard touchdown to Michael Carner with 3:50 to play before getting the ball back with 55 seconds left. The teams alternated touchdowns through three quarters, the biggest a 95-yard kickoff return by McElroy early in the second half. Sexauer was 13 of 19 for 286 yards and Bryce Boyd threw a touchdown pass of 36 yards on his only attempt. Shawn Shipman ran for 105 yards and score for St. Thomas while McElroy caught seven passes for 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns.   Cade Sexauer threw for one score and ran for another in a 22-point third quarter as St. Thomas pulled away from Presbyterian for a 46-17 win on Saturday that ran the Tommies' winning streak to six. In between Sexauer's scoring plays, Ryan Sever blocked a punt, chased the ball down and took it 6 yards for a scor e. The freshman has blocked three punts this season and all three resulted in touchdowns, although this was his first. Sexauer was 14 of 19 for 173 yards for the Tommies (6-1, 4-3 Pioneer League).   OCT 17 PIONEER FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Gabe Abel, St. Thomas, (Fr., RB, Trenton, New Jersey),...Abel became the fourth FCS freshman to rush for three touchdowns this season in St. Thomas' 26-17 PFL victory against Drake, Saturday. In his first collegiate start, he had 18 carries for 100 yards, with 61 yards and a touchdown on four carries in the fourth quarter. With the game tied 7-7 in the second quarter, Abel's six-yard touchdown run broke the tie with 8:28 remaining in the half. He added a second touchdown run six minutes later, giving St. Thomas a 20-7 halftime lead. Abel wrapped up the day's scoring with a five-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.   Gabriel Abel ran for 100 yards and three touchdowns as St. Thomas (Minn.) won its 35th straight regular-season game at home in beating winless Drake 26-14 on Saturday. Abel had a 6-yard scoring run and a 1-yarder in the first half, and his 5-yard touchdown capped the scoring early in the fourth quarter. Cade Sexauer was 15-of-25 passing and threw a touchdown pass for the Tommies (5-1, 3-0 Pioneer League). Drake (0-7, 0-4) jumped out to a 7-0 lead when Ian Corwin connected with Gage Vander Leest on a 2-yard touchdown pass. Corwin threw an interception on the Bulldogs' next series, setting up Sexauer's 24-yard TD pass to Andrew McElroy two plays later that knotted the score at 7. Corwin led a 72-yard, 10-play drive that was capped by an 8-yard touchdown toss to Matt Hartlieb with 11 seconds to go before halftime.   Hope Adebayo rushed for 132 yards and scored one of St. Thomas of Minnesota's three rushing touchdowns in a 38-24 victory over Marist on Saturday. St. Thomas (3-1) won its Pioneer League opener, churning out 242 yards on the ground to go with Cade Sexauer's 218 yards passing with two touchdowns. Leading by 14 in the fourth quarter, the Tommies took possession at their own 1-yard line with 10:15 remaining. Fourteen plays and 7 minutes later they had a 38-17 lead after Joshua Komis scored on a 4-yard touchdown. Marist's Brock Bagozzi then led a quick drive culminating in his 18-yard touchdown pass to Will Downes and the Red Foxes (1-3, 1-1 Pioneer) were within 38-24 with 1:12 remaining. St. Thomas lost a fumble on the first play of its ensuing possession, but time ran out on Marist near midfield. The Tommies got scoring help from their defense and special teams as Luke Herzog recorded a safety and Ty Barron scored on a 30-yard punt return. Sexauer completed 15 of 22 passes for 185 yards.
