  11/07/21 - Jahan DotsonSr/2022, Penn State, 5-11, 181 (DS#6 WR) + More +

Jahan Dotson caught 11 passes for a school-record 242 yards and three touchdowns, helping No. 22 Penn State snap a three-game losing streak with a 31-14 victory over Maryland on Saturday night. Sean Clifford threw for 363 yards for the Nittany Lions, including an 86-yard TD strike to Dotson that gave Penn State the lead with 13:55 to play. Dotson also caught scoring passes of 38 and 21 yards. The Terrapins tied it at 14 early in the fourth quarter. A sack knocked Penn State (6-3, 3-3 Big Ten) back 8 yards on the first play of the next drive, but then Clifford found his star receiver over the middle and Dotson outran everyone to the end zone. That was the longest reception of Dotson's Penn State career. The Nittany Lions struggled to put away the Terrapins, but they were able to take advantage of three empty Maryland trips to the red zone.

The Terrapins (5-4, 2-4) were trying to secure bowl eligibility for the first time since 2016. Taulia Tagovailoa passed for 342 yards and a TD, but he took an intentional grounding penalty that knocked Maryland out of field goal range early and fumbled a shotgun snap for a key turnover in the third quarter. Clifford found a very open Dotson deep for the game's opening touchdown in the first. Maryland reached the end zone toward the end of the half on a 2-yard run by Challen Faamatau, but a missed extra point left the Terrapins down 7-6 at the break. Dotson's second touchdown capped a 95-yard scoring drive that made it 14-6. Maryland tied it when Tagovailoa threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Corey Dyches on the first play of the final quarter, then passed to Chigoziem Okonkwo for the 2-point conversion. After Penn State went ahead 21-14, Dotson provided one more big play - a 45-yard catch-and-run on third-and-8 that set up a field goal. - Penn State/AP College Football

Jameson Wang ran for two touchdowns, Cornell kept Penn's offense out of the end zone and the Big Red pulled out a 15-12 win Saturday in the 127th meeting between the long-time rivals. Wang ran 21 yards for the game's first score in the second quarter, but the Quakers got a pair of Daniel Karrash field goals to trail 7-6 at intermission. Penn took the lead in the third quarter when Jordan Niles blocked a Cornell punt and Mozi Bici recovered the ball in the end zone with 4:19 left. Cornell (2-6, 1-4 Ivy League) came right back following the Penn (3-5, 1-4) kickoff and drove 75 yards in six plays to score the go-ahead touchdown on Wang's 1-yard run with 1:08 left in the third quarter. Wang was 4-of-7 passing for 55 yards with an interception and carried 10 times for another 55 yards. Richie Kenney was 8-of-20 passing for 128 yards. Aidan Sayin was 26 of 45 for 247 yards passing, but the Quakers managed just 78 yards rushing on 25 carries. - AP College Football

  10/11/21 - Trey PottsrSr/2024, Penn State, 5-09, 209 (DS#46 RB) + More +

Minnesota running back Trey Potts will miss the remainder of the season with an undisclosed injury serious enough to keep him hospitalized for six days after it occurred in the last game. Coach P.J. Fleck said Monday that Potts was “doing very well” and expected to be present at the practice facility this week to visit with the team. "These players as football players is one thing, but when you're talking about them as people, that's what ultimately matters,” Fleck said. “I appreciate everybody's concern. I know he and his family do as well.” Fleck declined to reveal any specifics about what happened to the third-year player, who left the field late in the fourth quarter Oct. 3 at Purdue without any obvious sign of trouble.

Fleck praised the effort and expertise of the medical staff for quickly determining Potts needed to go to a hospital after the initial evaluation on the sideline became a “really scary” situation. Athletic director Mark Coyle, head athletic trainer Mike Sypniak and team Dr. David Jewison stayed in Indiana overnight to support the native of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, while family members rushed to join him. Potts was transferred to a larger hospital at one point last week. He traveled back to Minnesota after being discharged Friday. - AP College Football

  10/05/21 - Trey PottsrSr/2024, Penn State, 5-09, 209 (DS#46 RB) + More +

Minnesota running back Trey Potts remained in a hospital two days after an undisclosed ailment that arose late in the team's game at Purdue. The university's athletic department said Potts' condition was "improving" and that he was "doing well," in a statement distributed on Monday. The university said further updates on Potts, who is second in the Big Ten with 552 rushing yards, would be provided when available with his and his family's permission. Potts left the field late in the fourth quarter on Saturday in West Lafayette, Indiana. After immediate observation and treatment by the team's medical staff, Potts was transported to a nearby hospital for further attention.

Athletic director Mark Coyle, head athletic trainer Mike Sypniak and team physician Dr. David Jewison stayed in Indiana overnight with Potts. Potts had the go-ahead touchdown run for the Gophers in the third quarter of their 20-13 victory over the Boilermakers. His last carry went for 6 yards on third-and-3 near the 3-minute mark as Minnesota was winding down the clock. Potts stepped into the lead role in the backfield after Mo Ibrahim, a second team preseason Associated Press All-American pick, suffered a season-ending lower leg injury on Sept. 2 in the opener against Ohio State. - AP College Football

  10/03/21 - Sean CliffordrSr/2023, Penn State, 6-2, 218 (DS#20 QB) + More +

Sean Clifford threw for 178 yards and three touchdowns to help No. 4 Penn State beat Indiana 24-0 on Saturday. Jahan Dotson caught a pair of touchdown passes, Brenton Strange added one and Penn State (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten) forced eight punts, two turnovers and blocked a field goal for their ninth straight victory. Jordan Stout added a 50-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for the Nittany Lions. Penn State opened the scoring on its second drive when Clifford scrambled left and flung a 10-yard pass to Strange with 5:28 to play in the first quarter.

Raheem Layne intercepted Clifford's pass in Penn State territory on the Nittany Lions' next possession. Although Layne returned it to the 13, the Hoosiers couldn't crack Penn State's stout red zone defense. They ran four plays inside the 5 only to turn the ball over on downs on a fourth-and-short try. The Hoosiers (2-3, 0-2) wouldn't get any closer to the end zone the rest of the night. Meanwhile, the Nittany Lions responded with their longest drive of the season. They got a boost from running back Keyvone Lee who took off for a 44-yard gain up the middle on second down. He added a 21-yard run moments later to set Penn State up inside the 5. Clifford capped the sequence with a rollout pass to Dotson in the back of the end zone. The 8-yard scoring toss made it 14-0 with 13:31 to play in the first half. - Penn State/AP College Football
