  05/26/22 - Isaac HodginsrSr/2024, Oregon State, 5-11, 245 (DS#22 FB) + More +

Isaac Hodgins likes physical labor. Last summer, the Oregon State defensive end went through Craigslist looking for people who needed help with yard work or farming. Same with OSU teammates Logan Horton and Jake Overman. Horton, a junior running back, used to deliver food for DoorDash and Instacart, but with soaring gas prices, it didn't pencil out. But prior to name, image and likeness laws going into effect last summer, college athletes had limited options to earn an income.

Now, the possibilities are endless. Hodgins, Overman, Horton and former OSU tight end Quinn Smith were at Bible study, they started talking business. Out of it came "Dam Good Home Exterior Services," a business where the foursome use their names as catalyst to drum up home exterior service work. The business logo is a Beaver wearing a hard hat pushing a lawn mower. They do everything from mowing and trimming yards, pressure washing, gutter cleaning, weeding, spread backdust or mulch, window cleaning. Busy Beavers, eh? - The Oregonian

From a statistical standpoint, no Pac-12 team had a better pair of inside linebackers than Roberts and Speights. Roberts led the conference in tackles with 128, while Speights was eighth with 95. Roberts also had a team-high 9 1/2 tackles for loss. Against the run, OSU was solid, though not spectacular, ranking fifth in the Pac-12 in yielding 4.14 yards per carry. But as a group, OSU's inside linebackers somewhat struggled to cover receivers, mostly slot and running backs.

Fisher, who started in the LA Bowl with Roberts undergoing surgery, was given first crack this spring as Roberts' long-term replacement. Fisher is hardly a newbie, as he enters his sixth year in college. Fisher is quick, and he can be physical. Despite losing a three-year starter in Roberts, the Beavers have plenty of inside linebacker experience. Colletto also enters his sixth year in college, and Speights has 25 career starts. But youth could seriously impact this position, as the coaches are excited about the progress of Mascarenas-Arnold and Miller. - The Oregonian

  05/20/22 - Rejzohn WrightrSr/2023, Oregon State, 6-2, 193 (DS#26 CB) + More +

Among Pac-12 schools, only Oregon was worse in defending the pass than OSU. Of course, not all of that is on the DBs, as it starts up front with pressuring the quarterback. But the secondary certainly shares the blame. Star receivers had mixed results against the Beavers. OSU gave up five 100-yard receiving games in September, then had a stretch of five consecutive games where it didn't allow a single 100-yard performance. Wright, thought to be the team's breakout star heading into the season, was inconsistent. It's why he decided to return for his senior season in 2022 rather than try to join his brother Nahshon in the NFL. - The Oregonian

  05/14/22 - Thomas SiorJr/2025, Oregon State, 6-3, 332 (DS#999 DT) + More +

It's difficult statistically to measure defensive line play. They're never going to get big tackle numbers, and Oregon State's scheme is set up for outside linebackers to make plays behind the line of scrimmage. For defensive lines, you know a good one when you see one. Oregon State isn't there yet. Sio was probably the spring highlight, as the 365-pound tackle consistently showed he could be a force in the middle. During coach Jonathan Smith's five-year tenure, the Beavers haven't had someone of Sio's girth and talent on the defensive line, outside of the oft-injured Jordan Whittley. - The Oregonian

  05/09/22 - Brandon KipperrSr/2023, Oregon State, 6-6, 318 (DS#45 OG) + More +

On decision to move Kipper to guard: "It started with Kipper and conversations he had when he went through the NFL process of considering coming back or not. A lot of it came back that he was going to be targeted as a guard. Through conversations, we felt like, let's put some tape out there, playing some guard for a year. And we did have confidence that we had a really good option in Tali at right tackle." - Oregon Live

Poised for a 2022 standout season: LB Calvin Hart Jr., junior. The North Carolina State transfer is back after tearing his left ACL in the 2021 opener. Hart had a fumble recovery for a touchdown and six tackles and a sack before he got hurt in the fourth quarter. His return is crucial for a defense that lost lots of experience at his position. - AP College Football

Outside linebacker Addison Gumbs has left Oregon State and is no longer with the Beavers football program. A source told The Oregonian/OregonLive that Gumbs, a fifth-year junior, withdrew from school this week. Gumbs earned his undergraduate degree in the fall and was taking classes this winter. Gumbs does not plan to transfer to another school. Gumbs is headed to Oakland to coach football under his father, Desmond, at Lincoln University. The 6-foot-3, 256-pound Gumbs hasn't played for Oregon State since the second game of the 2019 season, when he suffered a knee injury. Gumbs has periodically practiced with the team the past two years, but didn't play in a game. - The Oregonian
