There have been four 200-yard rushing games this season, and two of them belong to Oklahoma State's Chuba Hubbard. Hubbard ran for a career-high 256 yards on 32 carries against Tulsa on Saturday and moved from ninth to first on the national rushing chart with an average of 173.7 yards per game. Hubbard, whose first name is pronounced "CHOO-buh," opened the season with 221 yards on 26 carries against Oregon State. His three touchdowns rushing against Tulsa moved him into a tie for first in the nation with seven. The redshirt freshman from Canada has five 100-yard games in his career, all in the Cowboys' last seven games. His rushing total against Tulsa was the highest by an OSU player since Kendall Hunter went for 257 yards in the 2010 opener against Washington State. - AP College Football

Chuba Hubbard rushed for a career-high 256 yards and three touchdowns, and Oklahoma State defeated Tulsa 40-21 on Saturday afternoon. Hubbard ripped off touchdown runs of 75 and 30 yards in the first four minutes of the game. His first score came on the first play from scrimmage, 10 seconds into the contest. "He was awesome," Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders said. "The first play of the game - that was such a confidence booster. It's awesome to hand somebody the ball that can do that."

The Cowboys (3-0) opened up a 17-0 lead before Tulsa recovered. The Golden Hurricane took a 21-20 lead on a 1-yard touchdown run by Shamari Brooks late in the first half. Oklahoma State star receiver Tylan Wallace was bottled up for much of the game, but broke loose for a 90-yard touchdown reception late in the third quarter - the third longest scoring connection in school history - to give the Cowboys a 33-21 lead. He finished with five catches for 118 yards. Oklahoma State outscored Tulsa 20-0 in the second half. "We were just shooting ourselves in the foot," Hubbard said. "I felt that we should have been ahead by a lot more. Just mental errors that we've got to fix, but in the second half, we had a lot of leadership in the locker room and talked about how we've got to come out and just hit them again how we did the first play. And we did that." - Oklahoma State/AP College Football

Oklahoma State utilized a dominant passing game that piled up 413 yards and scored five touchdowns, to roll past McNeese 56-14 Saturday. Redshirt freshman quarterback Spencer Sanders completed 12 of 18 passes for 250 yards and three touchdowns in his home debut until he exited the game early in the third quarter. Then backup Dru Brown, who narrowly lost the off-season battle to become the starter, stepped in and completed 7 of 10 passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns.

Receiver Tylan Wallace recorded five receptions for 180 yards and three touchdowns, including scores of 69 and 75 yards where he caught short passes, then outraced defenders the length of the field into the end zone. After gaining 352 yards rushing in their season-opening 52-36 victory at Oregon State last week, including a nation-leading 221 from running back Chuba Hubbard, Oklahoma State managed 167 in this one. Sanders topped them with 51 yards rushing on 11 carries, while Hubbard gained 44 yards and a touchdown on eight rushes. For McNeese, Cody Orgeron was 11-of-22 passing for 151 yards and one touchdown, along with two interceptions, while also leading all players in rushing with 89 yards on 16 carries. - AP College Football

Redshirt freshman Spencer Sanders says his first-game jitters were calmed by teammate Chuba Hubbard. Sanders made the most of his debut for Oklahoma State, throwing for 203 yards and three scores in a 52-36 victory over Oregon State on Friday night. Hubbard rushed for 221 yards and three touchdowns for the Cowboys, while Tylan Wallace caught five passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns. Oklahoma State finished with 555 yards of total offense. "I was nervous, it's my first game," Sanders said. "But Chuba, he was helping me a lot. He kept getting my mind off it. Watching him open up on that first drive it gave me a shock of electricity."

Sanders, a highly touted recruit out of Denton, Texas, had competed throughout the spring and preseason camp with Hawaii graduate transfer Dru Brown for the starting nod. Cowboys coach Mike Gundy did not reveal his starter until game time. "About the middle of last week we felt he gave us the best chance to win the game," Gundy said about his decision. It was the season opener for both teams. The Cowboys finished 7-6 overall and 3-6 in the Big 12 last season, defeating No. 24 Missouri 38-33 in the Liberty Bowl. The Beavers went 2-10 overall and 1-8 in the Pac-12 in former quarterback Jonathan Smith's first season as coach. - AP College Football

  08/23/19 - Dru BrownrSr/2020, Oklahoma State, 5-11, 194 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Oklahoma State hasn't announced a starting quarterback and coach Mike Gundy will not reveal his plans for the position before the Cowboys' season opener next Friday night at Oregon State. Both redshirt freshman Spencer Sanders and Hawaii grad transfer Dru Brown have been competing for the job since the spring, and both have performed well. Both will likely see action. "Nothing changed," Gundy said. "Both of them are getting better every day. We have a really good plan in place, it's not something that I'm going to discuss publicly at this time."

Brown, who passed for 37 touchdowns with 15 interceptions in 22 games as Hawaii's starter in 2016 and '17, served as a backup to Taylor Cornelius last season, but played just one snap. Sanders, a highly touted high school recruit out of Denton, Texas, sat out last season as a redshirt. Cornelius graduated and his primary backup from last season, Keondre Wudtee, transferred to Northern Arizona. - AP College Football

Chuba Hubbard may have been Oklahoma State's fifth-leading receiver a year ago with 22 catches for 229 yards - with a long of 54 - but he may just be scratching the surface in becoming a multi-faceted tailback. With Hubbard expected to take over the starting running back role for the Cowboys this fall, he has put an even greater emphasis on working on his pass-catching ability.

"Catching the ball is very important to me, I want to be a running back that can do it all - that can run it on third-and-1, third-and-long or if you need to flex me out, I want to be able to catch the ball also," Hubbard said. "That's definitely something I've just been working on since I've been here." During fall camp, there have been times in the early portion of practices made open to the media in which Hubbard worked with the wide receivers on the jug machine with receivers coach Kasey Dunn. He's even made some impressive catches that awed the receivers in those drill lines. - Stillwater Press

Oklahoma State running back Chuba Hubbard didn't get double-digit carries in a game last season until November. Now, he's a preseason All-Big 12 selection. Hubbard got an unexpected chance to shine when Justice Hill was injured late last season. In four games as the primary back, Hubbard averaged 106.3 yards a game and 5.4 yards per carry. "He took it on like a pro," fellow running back LD Brown said. "He was very mature on it. He was built for it."

Hubbard worked hard in the offseason and is primed to have a greater role this season now that Hill is with the NFL's Baltimore Ravens. Hubbard is a complete package — a speedster with power and good hands. He certainly passes coach Mike Gundy's eye test. "He's about as pretty as they get," Gundy said. "He's about 208, 210 pounds, and I don't know how fast he is, but he's really fast." Hubbard finished last season with 740 yards rushing and 229 yards receiving. He ran for 104 yards and three touchdowns against Oklahoma, rushed for 138 yards against West Virginia and capped his freshman season with a 145-yard performance in the Liberty Bowl win over Missouri. - AP College Football
