De'Montre Tuggle rushed for two touchdowns, a one-yard plunge to break a tie in the third quarter and a 19-yarder in the final three minutes to ice Ohio's 45-38 win over Kent State in a key Mid-America Conference East Division clash on Saturday. The teams began the second half tied 24-24 when the Bobcats (3-4, 2-1) ate up 7:05 of the third quarter with a 13-play, 75-yard drive capped by Tuggle's plunge over right tackle from the 1. The fourth quarter was frenzied as each team scored twice, Ohio taking the lead for keeps when Nathan Rourke scored from the 7-yard line for a 38-31 lead.

On the next possession, Ohio's defense held the Golden Flashes to a 3-and-out in 49 seconds, setting up Tuggle's back-breaker when he charged through a huge hole in the center of the line and reached the end zone untouched. Raymond James had lifted Kent State (3-4, 2-1) into a 31-31 tie with his first career TD, a 27-yard pass play from Dustin Crum. Crum, who passed for 262 yards and four TDs, closed the game with an 8-yard pass to Mike Carrigan with 31 seconds left. The first half ended with a bizarre play when Michael Farkas' line-drive kickoff whanged off the helmet of Kent State's Isaac Vance 15 yards downfield, caromed toward the sideline and into the arms of Ohio's Camyrn Snow. - Ohio/AP College Football

  08/08/19 - Devin KingrSr/2020, Ohio + More +

Devin King has been known as a lot of things. Soldier, officer, college student, walk-on, wrestler and a football player. After Thursday, he might be able to add another title - world-record holder. King, a fifth-year long snapper for the Ohio University football team, broke the Guinness World Record for a long snap Thursday afternoon inside Peden Stadium. In front of more than a half-dozen official witnesses and at least four video cameras to verify the feat, King launched a long snap an even 38 yards. The previous Guinness World Record was 36.96 yards, set by Erik Lawson on Dec. 10, 2017. "It's pretty cool," King said afterward. "It's something I didn't really think about. "It doesn't even seem real at this point." - Athens Messenger

  08/04/19 - Nathan RourkeSr/2020, Ohio + More +

Rourke's physical gifts include quick feet, a natural, instinctive running style, and a knack for making a play when things break down. But it's Rourke's mental strength that has earned the rave reviews from teammates and coaches. He'll stare down a blitz to deliver a deep ball. He's the guy who will stay hydrated even on a press junket. He's the guy who reads obsessively about leadership in order to connect with different teammates. He's the guy running extra after practice. And Rourke has embraced it all while doing his best to reflect the attention coming his way, and yet always doing it his own way.

"Nathan is a guy that doesn't have to feed into the most popular brand. He's going to do what he feels is right and best," Hagan said. "He's himself, always. "He's not a 'brand' guy. He's kind of like Kawhi Leonard," Hagan said, smiling, as he referred to the NBA star known for being a bit stoic. "He's like the Kawhi Leonard of football. He knows what he's about, and he doesn't care if you do or not. "He doesn't have to brag or boast or be flashy, but when it's time to make a play - he makes a play." - Athens Messenger
