  North Texas running back DeAndre Torrey is set to return for another season with the Mean Green. UNT updated its roster for the 2021 season on Friday, when a handful of players who have entered the NCAA transfer portal were removed, midterm transfers added and some clarity emerged as far as what the Mean Green's roster will look like next fall. Torrey, defensive lineman Dion Novil and linebacker Tyreke Davis are among the most important of UNT's seniors who are set to return. Torrey, Novil and Davis are among the UNT players who elected to take advantage of that opportunity. Torrey led UNT with 656 rushing yards and six touchdowns in nine games last fall. Novil posted eight tackles for loss and was UNT's lone first-team All-Conference USA selection. - Denton Record

  Sarah Fuller, the first woman to score in a Power Five conference football game, says she's been invited to attend President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration on Wednesday. Attendance at the inauguration will be strictly curtailed because of the COVID-19 pandemic and security measures put in place after a violent mob supporting President Donald Trump invaded the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 as Congress was certifying Biden's victory. Fuller helped Vanderbilt win the Southeastern Conference women's soccer tournament as the goalkeeper. She helped out the football team while it was dealing with COVID-19 issues. She became the first woman to play in a Power Five game Nov. 28 with a squib kick to open the second half of a loss at Missouri in the only time she got on the field in that game. She got another chance on Dec. 12, when Vanderbilt had only 49 scholarship players for its game against Tennessee. - AP College Football

  UNT will look to those players to help fill the void left by the departure of Siggers, who became the seventh player the Mean Green have lost to the portal since the end of the season. Redshirt freshman wide receiver Kealon Jackson and sophomore defensive back Jaxon Gibbs entered the portal late Friday afternoon, pushing the number to nine. Jackson caught three passes for 23 yards last season. Gibbs posted 11 tackles in three games. The NCAA has granted all players an additional season of eligibility, which has fostered more player movement the last few weeks. - Denton Record

  Five North Texas players entered the NCAA transfer portal late this week, including a pair of seniors who were eligible to return for another season with the Mean Green. Cornerback Cam Johnson and safety Makyle Sanders started throughout their senior campaigns. Wide receiver Greg White and linebacker Chris Thornton were backups in 2020, while offensive lineman Brian Parish opted out of the season. The NCAA froze eligibility clocks for fall sports athletes this season due to the coronavirus pandemic.   North Texas wide receiver Jaelon Darden was already a notable player in program history by the time the Walter Camp Football Foundation announced its All-America team on Thursday. Making an 11th All-America team - this time as a second-team selection - was significant for Darden because it made him a consensus All-American. Darden is the first player to receive the distinction since program legend "Mean" Joe Greene in 1968. The 5-foot-9 speedster caught 74 passes for 1,190 yards and 19 touchdowns in just nine games. He declared for the NFL draft following UNT's win over UTEP in the Mean Green's regular season finale. - Denton Record

  TCU football added some competition and depth to its quarterback room on Sunday. Oklahoma transfer Chandler Morris announced his intentions to join TCU in a social media post. Morris is the son of former SMU and Arkansas coach Chad Morris. It's to be determined if Morris will be eligible to play next fall. There's multiple steps in the process that will make that determination, starting with Oklahoma releasing Morris from his national letter of intent because Morris is in his first year. The NCAA is also scheduled to vote on whether to allow one-time transfers on Jan. 11 and, after that, the Big 12 will decide on how to handle intra-conference transfers. - Fort Worth Star-Telegram

  Another Oklahoma quarterback is electing to head elsewhere. Just a couple of weeks after backup quarterback Tanner Mordecai announced he would be entering the transfer portal, fellow quarterback Chandler Morris has announced via Twitter that he will be doing the same.   2020 ALL-CONFERENCE USA FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM (COACHES): WR-Jaelon Darden, Sr., North Texas,...Darden finished with 74 receptions for 1,190 yards and a single-season program record 19 touchdowns in just nine games. His 19 receiving scores lead the Football Bowl Subdivision and entering the postseason has two more than Alabama's DeVonta Smith, who has the second-most nationally. Darden ranks seventh in the country in receptions per game (8.2). Darden led the nation in games with three or more receiving touchdowns, with four, and also tied for the most receiving scores in a single game in the country with four. Darden ranks third nationally in receiving yards per game (132.2) and receiving yards (1,190) and fourth in receptions (74).   Former North Texas quarterback Mason Fine is getting a shot to play professionally after all. The two-time Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year has signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian League. The team announced it has inked Fine to a three-year contract on Wednesday morning. The Canadian League canceled its 2020 season in August in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The CFL will open the 2021 campaign in late May. The Roughriders' first preseason game will be on May 28 against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Fine played for UNT from 2016-19 and established himself as one of the greatest players in program history. He helped guide the Mean Green to three bowl games while rolling up program records for passing yards (12,505) and passing touchdowns (93). - Denton Record
